  1. "Defiance" has great potential, but I don't see it deserving the name "defiance", yet (and no, I'm not suggesting a name change).

I have both a lvl 48 eng/eng blaster and lvl 9 archer/fire blaster on the test server.

With the low lvl blaster i noticed that i could achieve full defiance when I was trying to (making a consertive effort to lower my HP so as to maximize my defiance meter). Out of 10 tries I would usually reach full defiance 4 times and survive the encounter twice out of those 4 times. However, that still equals 8 deaths (thank god for no debt untill lvl 10). This was while soloing. While in a team, the number of times I reached full defiance without dieing was so few that I would not be able to put it in reasonable statistics.

While soloing as my lvl 48 blaster I never once reached full defiance. If I attempted to play the system and tried to get my health low enough for the meter to start moving (which seems to not be working right, but i'll comment on that in a sec), the next shot would usually end in my death.

I like the idea of this innate ability and think it just needs to be bumped up a bit. I really like the idea of scaling the % bonus as you get higher in lvl. I have heard mention of increasing accuarcy as well when your health starts to drop. This is also a good idea. One other that I would suggest is even a defense bonus when your health gets really low. This could possibly help with holding on to that last small bit of health long enough to give you time to get that game winning shot off. It is a really frustrating thing to see your defiance bar max out but to be at the ending of one attack animation and know that it will take you just a little too long to get that next attack off.

Also, as I mentioned before, I'm not sure if this is bug or if this was just a lag problem, but most of the time I would not see my defiance bar move untill my health reached 1/3 of full. I have been experiencing very bad lag throughout the entirity of all my testing so this might not be a bug or a mistake, just a slow graphics problem.

Here is a summery of how I would like to see Defiance work:
    lvl 1-19
    <40% health = + 40% DMG
    <30% health = + 80% DMG
    <20% health = + 160% DMG
    <10% health = + 320% DMG
    <5% health = + 500% DMG

    lvl 20-29
    <50% health = + 20% DMG
    <40% health = + 40% DMG
    <30% health = + 80% DMG
    <20% health = + 160% DMG +25% ACC
    <10% health = + 320% DMG +50% ACC
    <5% health = + 500% DMG +100% ACC

    lvl 30-39
    <60% health = + 10% DMG
    <50% health = + 20% DMG
    <40% health = + 40% DMG +5% ACC
    <30% health = + 80% DMG +15% ACC
    <20% health = + 160% DMG +25% ACC
    <10% health = + 320% DMG +50% ACC 25% EVA DEF
    <5% health = + 500% DMG +100% ACC 50% EVA DEF

    lvl 40+
    <70% health = + 10% DMG
    <60% health = + 20% DMG
    <50% health = + 40% DMG +5% ACC
    <40% health = + 80% DMG +15% ACC
    <30% health = + 160% DMG +25% ACC
    <20% health = + 320% DMG +50% ACC 25% EVA DEF
    <10% health = + 500% DMG +100% ACC 50% EVA DEF

The defensive bonus would be an evasion style bonus to allow us to dodge one or two shots long enough to get another attack off once we reach that low of health. Also, keep in mind, I'm not real keen on the inner workings of defensive bonuses so I'm not sure if the % I lsted are realitic/pathetic in comparison, but hopefully you understand what I'm trying to suggest.

  2. I really grove on the personal base idea. Think it can add a lot more content to character development and even give opportunity for more missions and what not.

Think of it this way. You scrape up enough influence to dig out a whole in the wall, and now it's time to accessorize. You've had your eye on this really sweet lab that you want installed. Well, you go down to your local Labs R Us store and Igor, the owner, tells you, "Yeah I can sell you this stuff, but hey you’re a hero, right? I'm having a problem with some people stealing my stuff. Think you can stake out one of my local warehouses to see if you can catch the guys? I could even cut you a really nice deal on what you want if you do this for me." So, because your purse is feeling a bit empty after buying that whole in the wall you call your lair, you take Igor up on the offer and save his merchandise. In return you get a really nice, almost at cost deal on setting up your lab.

The other really cool idea behind this is what if there was an aggression meter for certain enemy factions and when your hero inevitably pisses off one of those factions, all of a sudden they are taking such an interest in you that they are setting up ambushes for you at your base. To put a little more logistics to this. You go to Joe Blow that has the inside scoop on the Carnies, and you've helped Joe out a lot. Joe all of sudden calls you up on your cell phone and he tells you, "Hey man, I heard the Carnies have really gotten a wild hair up their butt about you and have decided it is time for pay back. You might want to get over to you base pronto because they have plans of trashing the place." So now, you have a timed mission you can choose from your contact, and this in turn makes your base the instanced mission. If you chose to accept it then you run the chance of the carnies trashing the place and having to rebuild your base. However, if you beat them then you get a souvenir in your base plus maybe even the ability to enhance your base even further.

Just my thoughts on the personal base stuff (and by the way if there is a thread floating around some where that is already discussing this please point me in that direction).

P.S. Wonderful job on compiling all that info in an understable form, Clint. I've been scanning all the facts on the boards and reading articles for a while now and there was still a bunch of things that you posted that are first time knowledge for me. Kudos dude.

  3. The main powers that come to mind are ones that have kind of been done but not as a powerset.
I think a cyclone/wind power set would be cool for a scapper set.

here are a few powers that pop into my head:

    Primary Set:

Barrage- Basically just flurry with a little different animation.

Onslauhgt- As barrage but has a front arc.

Gust of Wind- acts as build up does. The hero/villain use the wind to add an extra bit of damage to the next couple of attacks.

Teeth of the tempest- Toggled PBAOE that deals consitent damage to enemies, and also provides slight defensive bonus.

Raging Torrent- PBAOE that violent lifts all surrounding enemies in the air where they get violently tossed around doing lots of damage then get thrown back to the ground recieving one last hit and knock down. This would be a high damage attack that would wear out the hero/villain reducing endurance to zero and not able to recharge for a short time. (Think Whirlwind, but more violent)

    secondary set:

Cyclonic flow- toggled movement power that combines both swift and hurdle (at slightly better speed and jump) and has a visual effect of the lower half of you body being engulfed in a cyclone (can be toggled with sprint).

Cover of Wind- Defense based toggle that grants evasion from ranged, lethal and smashing damage. Hero/villain is covered in a small human sized tornado that makes it difficult for ranged attacks and melee stirkes to land succesfully.

Glide- Auto self defense. The hero/villain floats on air and does not have to worry any more about being physically trapped or dangerous ground (i.e. ice slick, caltrops, etc...)

Dust Storm- Toggled AOE enemy debuff. Hero/Villain swirls the wind around kicking up dust particles causing the enemy to move slower and suffer negatives to acc. and def.

Hope you enjoyed. If you like the idea, please feel free to add on or enhance.
