  1. [ QUOTE ]

Shall is the first person modal, it's past tense is should.

Will is for other people, it's past tense is would.

    [/ QUOTE ]

point of clarification: it's with an apostrophe (this mark: ' ) is a contraction of 'it is.' the proper way of indicating a possessive of it would be 'its,' as in:

Shall is the first-person modal. Its past tense...

(i also corrected for a comma splice. i'm a hardcore nerd, you see.)
    [ QUOTE ]

    It's like can and could.

    [/ QUOTE ]

the above is the grammarically correct usage of 'it's.'

yes, i am fully aware that i'm not capitalizing correctly. if you look, you'll notice i'm not capitalizing at all, excepting quotations. it's an act of deliberate laziness on my part, rather than a mistake i'm not aware i'm making.

i just wanted to clarify for esl folks. now back to the topic of this thread.

    [ QUOTE ]
Yes it can go too far..especially when the game is rated teen.

    [/ QUOTE ]
i feel compelled to point out that the esrb rating tag explicitly states, 'Game experience may change during online play.' while the terms of service and the license agreement do make certain limitations on what content is technically allowed, the esrb rating as is takes into consideration the possibility of sexually suggestive, violent, or otherwise, shall we say, potentially disturbing language. i'll agree that it would be inappropriate to give a detailed blow-by-blow of sexual acts in public channels (and it may actually be illegal under some state's laws about transmission of obscene materials - for more on this, look up a book called 'Sex, Laws and Cyberspace,' can't recall the author atm), but short of that i wouldn't call it 'going too far.' those who pay attention to the esrb ratings will notice this disclaimer and be aware that sort of thing might occur.

profanity is a very thorny issue because it's extremely relative. for example, my older brother swears reflexively. he quite literally will not say a sentence without including some sort of profanity. consequentially, when he goes off on a cursing fit, everyone rolls their eyes and tunes him out. when i use strong language, people actually are shocked, because i hardly ever feel the urge to swear. the point is, words which may seem harsh to my ears are stripped of all emphatic value in his perception. my general attitude toward profanity, then, is that others have every right to use it as gratuitously as they see fit, but also that i have a right to avoid it just as much as i care to. sometimes this means leaving groups (though i avoid pickup groups most of the time anyway, because people are idiots), and sometimes it means ignoring people or shutting off broadcast, but i don't fault people for bad language. (i do fault them for being morons, and morons are a lot more likely than others to use invective, but that's coincidental.) it is actually feasible to roleplay a foulmouthed person, just as it is possible in this game to use d00dspeak in a roleplaying context (look, gripe all you like, but the developers themselves included missions against freakshow with names like TeH R0xX0r). i try not to be too critical of people, because it is entirely possible they just don't roleplay well. some players lack that certain degree of sophistication with language and creativity that marks a good roleplayer, but that doesn't mean they should be shunned or ignored.

p.s. incidentally, racism (as well as all other forms of bigotry) is explicitly and specifically prohibited by the euala.
  2. Some people seem to have the knack of doing better, without trying, than others who do work harder. Kudos, much applause, and appreciations. Very well-written.

Incidentally, I feel I should mention that normally I'm opposed to bumping a thread, along the lines that if people aren't posting it should be canned. That said....
