That is only part of the story, as it doesn't even count the lower def, lower base hp (for the regen aspect of Rooted) or the smaller +maxhp/heal of EE, either.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Granite Brutes are squishy, but they aren't Granite Tanks. The gap gets closer and closer the more IOs you invest in them, however.
Thanks for the info. I agree that you can't compare a granite tank to granite brute, but since one could get up to 87.75% that is still better than some tankers it seems. I know some of the sets are more defense based, but a granite brute seems like it could be pretty beefy
  2. I guess I was just thinking about the idea from a theoretical standpoint. I know that brutes are not straight up tankers, but they are able to tank if equipped correctly. It is kind of like WoW pre burning crusade and especially pre- lich king. Paladins, Druids, Deathknights, and Warriors can all tank. Some were better for certain things, others were not as good. Now they have made them all equal, but back in the day you could still tank with a non-warrior, but you had to find creative ways to do it.

So I was looking at the Granite Brute and saw that the Granite Armor levels were not much different, 37.5% to 50%. Add in Stone Skin and Tough/Weave (for the brute) it may not be that bad. I know this is just resistances, but I as just wondering from a % standpoint how it would look. I also noticed that some tankers do not have the kind of resistances that a stone brute would have (if I am reading the info stuff correctly in the game).

The plus side to all of this would be tanking with lots more dps (if it can be done). If GR does step up some of the difficulty, it would be a perfect opportunity for Brute tanks. The extra dps will help a lot to down the bosses that much faster. Again, thinking back to WoW since I played it for a long time. My DK tank could push 2.8k dps in Ulduar. Our guild would let new people come if they could hit 3k, so being the MT and doing that kind of dps really does help.

I know this doesn't cover all of it, as threat generation is an important part of tanking as well. So hopefully the discussion continues...

Thanks again to all the have replied. I really am enjoying the game and I find that the people on this message board are friendly, mature, and really well informed.
  3. Just one more question for you guys. What kind of defense / resistance can a Stone Armor Brute get up to? Again, I don't have too much money for expensive IO's, which is why I was thinking about going tank to start. I know the Stone Armor tank can get pretty maxed out to all but Psi with just SO's, what would the brute with the same slots have?

Could a stone armor brute actually get more defense/resistances than some of the weaker tanker armors?

    Thanks in advance.
  4. I ended up making a tanker named Wee Justice. I went willpower and dark for my sets. My damage is much lower than the brute, so hopefully that will pick up a little bit. I just hit level 10 and have been soloing the player made missions just to try something new.

Thanks again for all the advice!
  5. Thanks for all the info guys. I think a tanker may be the better choice for me since I don't have all the money to get a tricked out set. It does sound like Brutes can do well given the right slot combinations. So for a first time tank, do you think Willpower is the way to go? From what I have read it seems to have the most Sta regen to help when leveling, or is it better to go for a set like stone?

Hope to see you all around Paragon City!
  6. I am new to COH/COV and had a question about Tankers and Brutes. I am interested in Tanking as I have done that in other games. From what I have been reading, tankers are the "best" tanks. My question is, how far behind the tanker is the brute?

If one were to make a tanker and brute with the same powers and enhancement slots, how far behind would the brute be on defense? And while I am new to the game and haven't done any of the end game content, can a brute tank it? Are there any power combinations that work better for tanking? Also remember I am new, so I will not have access to anything too expensive... but it is my hope as an end game style tank I can get that money

The only reason I ask is that I like CoV a little more. It is not about being a villian either, it is all about the graphics. CoV graphics just seem much better. Do the two games become comparible later on? I haven't gotten a guy out of the third zone yet.
