  1. That you three for the replies!

I do wish she had chosen Magic instead of Mutation. Is there any way to incorporate Mutation in being a vampire and still keep the mystery? I do not want to make it a 'scientific' alteration. That makes it so clinical and uninteresting
  2. Wow! Some really creative comments, thank you

To throw a total monkey wrench into the proceedings, she wants her Mutation Spines/Regen to be a Vampire

At first, I was at a loss, but then I thought that it might work. After all, her secondary, regeneration could work with the vampire concept. And you all have helped me explain how the spines might work.

But could spines be a Vampire related power as well? Are there any vampire type myths/stories where the creature had powers such as these?

Thank you all again Fun posts.
  3. Nooooooo! Gnarly, I am very sorry to see you go. You made a tremendous contribution to the player community.

Thank you so much and I am sure you will excel in whatever you put your mind to!
  4. Great ideas! Thank you for the replies.

I have scribbled down your comments and will think about them some more.

As far as the X-Men like retraction from the skeletal system, I am completely shying away from that now. I watched her 'puff up' a few times in game and realized that the amount of spines is not explainable by being attached to her skeletal system and retracting. Just looking at the two huge scimitar-like projections (with several jutting branches) from her arms kills that concept.

It is almost like a transformation of sorts and less like ‘extending’ these structures from their skeleton. But I cannot quite put my finger out in. Words like summoning and polymorphing do not quite work.
  5. I do not have a background in comic books so bear with me please! I come to you all for help because you have such wonderful character concepts and stories.

Just for fun, I thought I would work on the background for my friend’s Mutation Spines Scrapper. But I first need to understand the archtype in a ‘real world’ sense. Granted, you could easily just say it happens like magic! But I prefer to think it through a little as if this type of mutation existed (for the story).

What do you all think is happening when they suddenly ‘puff up,’ bristling with boney spines? Do they have huge holes all over their body corresponding with the thickness of a fully retracted spine? They certainly do not appear to.

They are so enormous that it makes it difficult for me to conceptualize how they work. Especially the fact that the mutant looks normal and then suddenly she has fully extended spines that are completely out of proportion with her skeleton.

For example, I had to suffer through X-Men on a date once and the character with the retractable claws seemed fairly believable because it looked like it was possible for the blades to retract into the metallic sheath within his arms. This is not the case with Spines! They are immense and it is difficult to picture any sort of realistic biological skeletal system with instantly retractable spines much longer and larger than the bones in the leg (for example). One note, the Wolf guy in that silly movie had an innate regeneration and the claws actually pierced his skin when extending. This corresponds with my friends regeneration secondary so it is conceivable that his skin is being pierced each time: though the level of pain would be infinitely greater than the guy from the X-Men movie.

Can any of you come up with some fairly realistic ways of explaining the mechanics involved in a mutant with these prodigious spines?
  6. Very interesting approach, Triple_R. I think your job is much harder than mine as I have mutation to 'explain' my powers.

And I am taking your advice and just trying to brainstorm some more to fill out more of the character details. Thank you
  7. Thank you for taking the time to explain these concepts to me

Great information! It will help me a great deal in working out my character back-story; and, in generally understanding these otherworldly powers. I really appreciate it.
  8. Thank you so much for the response A few questions to help me grasp what you are saying.

    [ QUOTE ]
I play my Illusion/FF Controller as being an extremely powerful projective telepath who has very limited abilities to receive.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Projective telepath? And what do you mean receive. Sorry, I am completely unfamiliar with concepts such as these. I am new to the whole comic book hero genre!

    [ QUOTE ]
The physical manifestations of the powers are RPed as simply not existing or as being side effects

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am not clear on this either. Do you mean the powers do not really exist but only 'appear' to exist to the enemy? And why would this do psionic type damage (whatever that means)?

    [ QUOTE ]
By the by, the "canon" way Illusion Control works is that it's a combination of light and sound control that generates very convincing images. I don't really buy that, myself.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What do you see it as? The only reason that worked for me was because I could see telekinetically folding light around your party making them invisible or telepathically convincing an enemy that he is injured making his body go into shock and causing 'damage.' But I am just guessing; I do not know.
  9. Thank you so much! Great information. Is working perfectly
  10. I have a question about Gnarly's with Super Speed. Incidentally, on my flying character, Gnarly's 3.0 is AMAZING.

But I have a character that is getting close to using SS only without fly. I should simply put the fly key in an out of the way place (the readme suggests LCTRL-L) and then what? Is there anything else that needs to be done? What does the run mode key do on a super speed character? Or should it be placed out of the way too?

Finally, I have shelved my flyer for now. But if I ever get it out again would I need to change the configuration again? For example, at this point when the program asked if I use hover or fly I answered no to both. Will that blow up my flyer binds if I use the character sometime in the future?

Any configuration advice for a super speed only character would be appreciated! Thank you.
  11. I play a Mutation Illusion Controller/Radiation Emission character and I am trying to come up with a good background to help with my role-playing.

The problem is that in working out her background I am not getting a good picture of her abilities in a ‘super hero’ sense. I am new to all of this and have not read a comic that I can think of.

Someone suggested in a post about another of my characters that her powers are psionic in nature allowing her to telepathically control and influence minds with powers such as Spectral Wounds and Deceive. And other powers are telekinetic like the ability to manifest entities of force like the Phantom Army and Phantasm.

But what about Blind? In game it looks like I am taking a picture of an enemy. Basically there is a flash around my head and then a sort of quivering dancing light around a held enemy. How can I work that into my idea of her powers? What is mechanically happening when she uses this power. And the same for Flash which is an area effect version of the same. Maybe she is using light and sound to effectively overload her enemy’s senses? I am not sure how to think about these two powers.

And finally, how do I think about the Radiation Emission powers? They are not really psionic, telepathic, or telekinetic are they?

I know this is an odd request, but to really understand the character I need to have an understanding of these powers in context.

    Thank you so much!
  12. HELP!

I am using Gnarly's AMAZING Speed on Demand binds. Wow They are incredible. Fly was kind of a novelty before, not it is a fun and efficient way of travel.

    BUT!

Sometimes when I type in the chat box and hit enter, my character starts running off in a direction and will not stop. I can stop it only by using the SoD reset key (ctrl-r).

This only happens when I chat and though it happens frequently, it does not happen every time. It is as if I am hitting some combination of keys that turns on autorun backwards or sideways.

Any suggestions please? This has gotten my group killed once on a t/f as it autoran me into a group of mobs before I could reset! Owwwie.
