    Spines/Elec Help

    I mostly play blasters so I'm definitely not an expert, but I'd assume the defense would be preferable. The reason why is that the AoE & cones will be drawing a fair amount of aggro so even a little bit of defense will go a long way. If a lot more mobs are attacking you then that means that more are hitting you, alpha-style. All the regen & resistance in the world won't help if they all hit you.

    And I agree and want to thank everyone as well. This is the most helpful thread I've ever been a part of. My Spine/Elec is lv 10 now and I'm really enjoying him so far. I've been following the latest build that I posted on the previous page.
  2. I agree that /Fire has the most DPS, as it usually does, but /Stone is fun as hell. Lots of knockup/knockdown, not to mention Heavy Mallet & Seismic Smash are really heavy hitters. And Shield Smash goes quite well with the other knockup/knockdown powers like Fault & Tremor.

    I plan on using both Quills & Lightning Field, but you're both entitled to your own opinions, of course.

    Okay, so if I build for more defense, particularly melee defense, I can get a 26.8% set bonus. Add that to what I get from things like CJ and that makes 32.4%. Not too shabby. On top of that it has a fair amount of recharge & damage bonuses, too. I was able to fit a chance for mag 2 stun into both damage auras, which I think might be interesting. I might want to take hasten earlier but I'm not sure. I'll have to see if I think I need it as gameplay progresses.

    The resistances are pretty high up there, and I have a decent amount of regen. I'm aware that I could put in things like the regen & recov globals, but I doubt I'd be able to afford it anytime soon. I was just able to afford a numina's global on my tank after saving up for a couple of months.

    Well, like I mentioned, I already have about 22% melee def from bonuses. If I take weave & cj that means I won't be able to have an epic power pool. Or I'll have to get rid of some other stuff like lightning reflexes, but I don't want to.

    The set bonuses I get from either dark blast or nightfall aren't that stupendous. And, while I like nightfall a lot with other characters, I'll already have a bunch of cones, aoe, and 2 auras. I suppose survivability will definitely be a factor in regard to aggro, too. I'll have to think about that. I'd kind of like to put a kismet: 6% to-hit in there somewhere, too, now that you mention cj...

    Edit: good thinking with +rech on power sink. That makes more sense.

    Um, I put boxing & tough in mine. Didn't put weave in, though, as I'm already pretty toggle-heavy and this is more a +res build. I know more defense is always a good thing but I'm thinking it'll be fine without.

    Ah, good point. And I suppose that Energize has a pretty quick recharge (about 50 sec), and if I put it on auto that should help a bit.

    This is my first foray into the scrapper forum, so thank you all very much for being so helpful. I think this character should be pretty damn fun.

    I'm wondering why, P Nut, you put Dark Blast in there instead of Night Fall? Wouldn't a high damage DoT cone be better than a single target blast? They take the same sets. And good call putting the -KB in SJ. Don't know why I didn't think of that.

    Didn't realize how important it was to get that right away. I suppose if I'm in the thick of things I'll probably want that sooner. Good thinking!

    I was thinking that this is really toggle-heavy. I don't have CJ, but I'm running all the defensive toggles and two damage auras on top of that. I'm wondering if I should be going with Body Mastery instead because of this. That'll give me Physical Perfection for the extra +end, and I can put a Performance Shifter proc into both it and Stamina. What do you think?

    Heya, P Nut! It's velk. That actually looks pretty similar to something I was working on earlier this afternoon. It was a real quick "I wish" affordable IO build. I was able to get nearly 22% worth of melee def bonuses while still getting the enhancements I want for playability.

    That's the kind of advice I was looking for. Melee def definitely makes sense with this sort of build, and I think the extra end you get from /Elec will help with all of the toggles, even if I do take tough/weave. Thank you all very much.

    This is waaaay off from now, but I like planning ahead and I'm not familiar with scrapper epics whatsoever. My character's outfit is mostly black, with dark red slate spines and black electric armor. Would Dark be a good epic? I'm thinking Nightfall might be decent if I'm already going to be doing melee AoE. Otherwise Fire would work for the same reason (?)

    And I had Perfect Zinger IOs in there before for that reason, but now that I've got the more defense, I think I agree with you. I'll play around with it some more and post my latest revision.
  15. Yeah, I made sure that I have enough slots for it. Based on the current info you have to have either Conserve Power or Focused Accuracy and be level 44 or higher. I plan on taking it at 44 so I can 6-slot it to maximize regen & recov.

    EDIT: I agree that this'll work better. Here's what it looks like with the recent advice. Keep in mind that that the 4 empty slots in Physical Perfection will be Efficacy Adapters. I'm pretty happy with this, unless anyone has any different suggestions for me to consider.

  16. I took some of the ideas from the above, along with the fact that Physical Perfection sounds fantastic, and came up with a new build. I squeaked in as much Melee, Ranged, and AoE Defense as I could without compromising too much. The 4 blank slots in PP are for Efficacy Adapter. Looking better?

    Also, I normally keep Boxing on auto to help generate aggro...should I put more than just the one Acc in it?

    So I should look for more melee defense is what you're telling me. Are there any defacto ways of doing this, such as particular sets? I was focusing on regen, HP, and recharge with the above, along with general maximization.
  18. I love Short Circuit. It's seriously one of my favorite powers. But I found that Lightning Field is too big of an attention draw due to it being a toggle. Maybe it's just my preference, but a big initial blast works better for me than an aura.

    EDIT: OOh, man, looking at Phys Perfection I think I might have to forgo the extra AoE from Fire Ball and just go for the extra beefiness. Still not 100% about my set choices, though...
  20. Hey there! I've got a lv 40 Shield Defense/Stone Melee tank that has a few IOs, and now I am starting to plan for his full-on non-purple IO build. I read through some of the guides and posts, and here's what I came up with. I'd really appreciate any feedback/changes you think of, as this is my first tank.

    I currently have the Steadfast & Karma globals, and the 3 Crushing Impact sets. Everything else is sort of a long-term thing. Heh.

    Oh, I should probably mention that I've found my attack chain to work pretty well so far. I jump into combat, attack with either Heavy Mallet or Seismic Smash, and then immediately activate Fault. I found shooting off one attack first makes them gather on me before using Fault. By then AAO has gotten me a decent +Dam, so I use Shield Smash in the same spot I'm already in, immediately followed by Tremor for a double-flop. I then alternate attacks, throwing in Fault, Tremor, and Sheild Smash where applicable to keep them on me. Fire Ball will eventually fit in there as an additional AoE move to use in conjunction with Shield Smash for extra damage.

  21. Well, crap. That means that it runs via bootcamp w/WinXP but not the Mac version. Oddly enough it runs just fine on my non-pro. I wonder if it's because hers is an ATI & mine is an NVIDIA.

  23. Heya, folks! I did some online digging both at ATI's website and some general searching and couldn't find out what driver I should be running.

    My wife has a first generation 15" MacBook Pro. I just updated to the latest version of Leopard and upgraded the RAM to 4GB after a hard drive crash & reinstall. It has a 256MB ATI Radeon X1600.

    I just installed the client but the world textures are freaking out at me. I tried adjusting the graphics down, but that didn't help any. Is there a different driver I should be running?
