sigh.. im working on my art desk now.. the desk lamp is shining on the pencil lines and making it hard to see the drawing (light is reflexing off the graphite).. dunno how to fix that issue
-
ok, not really a valentine image.. just wanted to show basic chibiness..
its not inked or line corrected..or color shaded, but you can at least see KINNA what the chibis would look like. (trust me, they look a lot cuter when finished)

EVEN though I did say I was only going ta do three vip and three free images ( not that any free players ever took the bait ), I ended up taking in 18 and...sadly didnt finish them all in time..soo...
Saint Patrick days is all about the Wee Little People... all 18 get chibi versions of there characters, IF they want them.. and ONLY after I finish the valentines day pinups..
ANNNDD.. I need to figure out how to post all the finished valentine pinups together so no one has to search this whole thread to find them...should I just edit the post I did at the begining and add all the images???
(p.s. I work during the weekends so cant do much now ) -
might as well show what I have so far ( though nekos is already inked more or less.. just working on color flats )

Quote:ack.. if I dont finish them all by the 17th, I might have to do an extra paddy day image for the ones I didnt finish in time to make up for not finishing the original one on time... I still got 7 days left thoughI think that after the 17th whatever V-day pinups are left become st. patties day pinups. LOL.
-
deadline is still the 17th to finish them all.. seven days left... eeep!!
..err.. did anyone wanna see the pencils?? -
Quote:..thanks for info.. im a pressure type..thankfully I got myself a self imposed deadline..lets see how that works *crosses fingers*For drawing there are a few different modes of work...
For doing pin-ups you need a comfortable, well lit area with a good flat surface and I would recommend music or something that helps you tune out. That's right... tune out. You need to pretty much stop thinking and let you instinct take over as well as focus so that you lose track of time and keep you from thinking of other things. It's more of a Zen thing than anything else.
For sketching and doodling all you really need is to carry around a pad with you and just draw whenever the feeling comes over you. Not doing this is really responsible for the lose of so many cool ideas probably... I know I've had thousands ideas and no pad of paper around to draw it out that are just forgotten... likewise unlike the pin-up mode this mode is more a whimsy unfocused mode that you should either be focusing on concept or something else like a tv show... or a teacher ^.^
For animation...you need the same thing as the pin-up but with a light board and no music or zone out. For animation you need to actively engage with what you're doing and refer back to other pieces and little things which means you need all your faculties concentrated on the work you're doing...
I'm guessing you're talking about focusing on pin-ups... Well the secret is that it takes practice. Notice I said zone out and let instinct take over. Well to do that, you gotta know what you want drawn and how to draw it. Those two things are essential to doing good work and if you don't have those you are sketching and doodling in my opinion...
The other secret is that there is 3 ways that every creative person I know of works... That is
Passion: I'm going to do this because it is all I can think about doing...
Pressure: I'm going to do this because I have to do this for some reason...
Preservation: I'm bored and if I don't do something I'm gonna go insane...
Passion types have the problem of doing the art regardless of other things.
Pressure types have the problem of only being able to produce when pushed to their time limit.
Preservation types need to be locked in a room and deprived other stimuli.
These 3 types also mix to different degrees and often one is the key to activating the other two...
For example I'm more the Preservation type, but once I get going I'm more the passion type. I literally can't not do something. If you put me in a room with nothing to do I will create something and I will often be fixated on it till I'm done with it. Surrounded by technology it's hard to be bored, so I'm also a Pressure type in terms of doing things in general. So this means While my creativity is often triggered by the Preservation mechanism I have to be pressured into putting myself into that situation.
So what I'm saying is, in general, you gotta know your key and then use it. Which means the first thing you gotta do is learn about yourself and reflect on what has caused you to focus in the past and then put yourself in that situation.
Only when you know that can you really take extra advice like one of the worst things for Preservation types to do is to stop and look back on their work in the middle of working on it. Because that then gives them stimuli and kicks them out of the creative mode. -
Quote:are her eyes always closed?.. sewn shut or just black orbs???I'd love to have one of the Unquiet Bride (my ghost-girl zombie Mastermind).
Her bio:
-from the diary of the Nemissary, Death Mage
"And so it was that I decided, after countless centuries of solitude, to abandon the lonely path of the bachelor necromancer and explore instead the impenetrable mysteries of the domestic state. I sought the Temple of Oblivion, and there I made a most passionate plea to the fair Queen of the Dead. I implored Her in Her dark wisdom to suggest where one such as I, who had served Her cause so faithfully and so long, might find for himself a bride of suitable temperament, for I knew even then that no mere mortal woman would suffice. The Dark Lady listened most graciously, and then turned to her court. One of her own handmaidens she called forward; as pale and silent and beautiful a creature as any I had ever beheld. A word she whispered in the maiden's ear, and it was done. When I returned to these dark halls of Oranbega, I returned with that quiet apparition at my side.
Would that she had remained there..." -
sorry about delay.. moved my drawing desk and im working on how best to do backgrounds.. gotta little side tracked..
course what every artist REALLY needs is a ..... DEADLINE!!!
EDIT: VALENTINES PIN-UPS: DEADLINE FOR ME FINISHING THEM ALL IS MARCH 17TH.. -
Quote:Ahh well.. even I have to agree that the Superman and Lois imagery was a rip off of the peida thingy. That's fine, and interesting to hear.
Sometimes things become repeated or used so often that there is a misconception that they are "generic": Kleenex, Xerox, Jell-O etc.,. But in all actuality, they are items with a specific branding and specific imagery attached.
My point is that it behooves any kind of artist* to understand the origins of certain poses and imagery. Because, intentional or not, the audience will pick up on the subtext (especially when several are used in combination). An educated artist knows how to use such subtext to their advantage... and there is no doubt in my mind that the Superman folks (writers & directors) knew this as well.
BTW, A person can make observations about the use of imagery in art without attaching judgement.
*some folks may not know that I have a theatrical background
I enjoyed the exchanges Impish Kat they dont let me out of the art forums to much.
Also, spending three hours looking for art work dated before 1300 in a certain pose had the benefit of allowing me to find some nice Hindu statues... which leads me to my next point..
..err.. I found a Hindu temple with MULTIPLE female statues on it on really cool poses.. only I cant seem to find it again.. I dont suppose theres a name for a temple that has that so I can search for it easier?
EDIT: never mind.. found it.. kinna small, but I found it. -
ok, I will also agree it was an interesting observation.... though I dont see any religious theme to it.
I did find one thing though..
sadly, looks like in ancient time.. we just held dead people at arms length and
enjoyed them from a distance..
thats all I get for searching.. that and tons of hindu art.. no ones
dead.. but LOTs of people are holding each other, there there very
lively about it. -
..hmmm.. yes.. you are correct.. it seems that before 1300 or so, no one has thought of holding a dead persons body in such a way..
..I also haven't found any ancient images of anyone sneezing either.. it must be assumed that this is a new thing.. -
applicable.. its a generic pose used often.. fallen hero in someones arms... however, with that and the application of halos.. I can see how someone would make that mistake.
-
...just.. umm.. just throwin this out there... -
everyone knows Judeo Christianity came up the the Judeo hold and throws that are common with the fighting monks of today... Judeo fighting is an important part of martial arts training for all monks...
Statesman got is powers from the Greek gods the same as some heros got there powers from the Egyptian gods...
The halo itself is more a common item theme, about the same as cupid, or santa, or the easter bunny.
