No change on the previous answers other than adding Human Nature to the best episodes. I may actually like it more than the first Dalek episode I originally had as second favorite.

As for comments on S3, well, it seems the writers really got their act together about time travel over the previous two seasons. They really shoe-laced the story this time around, with the doctor constantly being victim of his own future self's actions. The Blink episode, although not added to my list of favorite episodes, made the best sample of future/past time handling in a single episode (although the full season did this on it's overall arc)

As already noted, the end of time really boggled my mind too. I could not help to notice there is a special coming up called The End of Time.

Oh, and how far are you into S4?
Only seen the Christmas Special and the first episode of the season. I see they went back to the previous year Christmas Special companion. Like that this one seems much more detached from the doctor and more into the traveling but she looks a bit old. I don't mean old old, but she looks like a mom more than an adventurer. She didn't look this... mom-like in the previous year special. Perhaps because she spent the episode in a wedding dress.
  2. I would like an auto-interpolating animation system (almost sure that's not the right name) that supported things like auto generating "in-between" animation frames or interpolate multiple frames for dynamic animation speedups and slowdowns of any existing animation. In theory this would allow for nearly any animation to be used as alternative animation to any attack as it would automatically speed up or slow down to fill the appropriate cast time. Would also allow for balance tweaks on cast times without requiring reanimating attacks.

Also would like a modular system that somehow separated upper and lower body animation to support for on-the-fly running/standing/hovering attack modes that require just one upper body animation to be modified instead of multiples.

Darnit, that means Martha is gone as a companion for reals? I figured the doctor would go back for her... somewhere in S4...

  5. Oh and another question: should I watch The Infinite Quest before I get started on S4? Or it's never referenced from that season?

What?! Why not? That would mean that had things gone normally I'd have a 5th season to look at now!!!
  7. Well, thanks to my speedy interwebz I got full season 4 ready to watch, also got me Voyage of the Damned, off course.

Looking at a list of doctor who serials, I noticed this year has a LOT of specials. Planet of the Dead already being released with 3 more to go and it seems December may see 2 (unless Christmas in UK lasts until January as it does in Puerto Rico.)

I can torrent it. May do so once I'm done with Torchwood and Doctor, saw a trailer that make it look too children focused for my taste.

This is another part of an end of our universe theory. Basically the idea is that will be an event called “The big crunch” this could possibly then compress all matter until it had the explode, creating a new Big Bang and a brand new universe. Wiki link.
Yea I heard that one before.

That rose shows up in Season 4.

Anyway, I think the idea is that we have no idea what a billions of years old human would look like... I mean, humans already change a lot when they get older, lose hair, skin becomes loose, body starts to break down. Imagine that but not dying... my guess is, eventually his body just deteriorated into nothing.
Also, aging effects DNA too, so maybe it cause him to continue to mutate.
Hmm, perhaps. I guess it may be revisited at some point.

Yeah, Family of Blood - where you learn that you never **** with a Time Lord!
Oh it was not that that got me, it was the doctor's human fear of death and that entire loss process.

Geeze, at this rate you'll be all caught up any time now. Cant wait to see how the end of Utopia works for someone who doesnt know the mythology of the series. . .

Well, finished watching Season 3 last night was not able to stop after seeing the cliffhanger in Utopia.

Although I’m not deep in the Who lore yet, I did research a bit on the old foes and knew already about The Master, although didn’t know anything about his personality other than he being the doctor’s nemesis.

The story was darn epic but what really got me was the end of the universe and how it all played out. I got way too shocked with their vision and still trying to reconstruct in my head WHAT happens there once that ship takes off, mainly because I guess/hope the event gets revisited at some point.

So far what I understand about the end of time:
All galaxies collapse, all stars burned out, and reality itself collapse. The universe is just dark space of some sort, hard to guess off what given how reality was already noted to have collapsed. All that seems left are floating rocks. This specific planet still has oxygen and somehow hosts more than just humans, it also hosts this other sharp teeth humanoids and we see very limited plant life so the end of the universe is not that final.

The last remnants of humanity in this planet get a signal from somewhere and call it Utopia and decide to just go there. With the help of the doctor they do, they make it, but once there… it’s not what they expected. Whatever happens there is not clear but obviously it’s not what they expected. I take it food supplies are entirely exhausted and they resort to cannibalism. Somehow they degrees into child-like mentality and somehow they get themselves into these spheres. The Master goes there and offers them an escape, and something is still going there as they fear some shadows that are coming. WHAT happened there is what still disturbs me.

Googling a bit seems that “galaxy collapse” means black hole, but that does not explain much.

So yea, that entire concept is still tickling the back of my head.

I got this from the wiki’s plot summary:
When they open it up, they discover that the Toclafane are humans from the year 100 trillion, who, having attempted to reach Utopia and finding nothing but darkness, became insane in their search to outlive the universe and cannibalized themselves to become the child-like bio-mechanical Toclafane.
But if utopia was just darkness…. what sent the signal? The Master? And what shadows were coming for them?

As for other points of the ending of the show:

Not entirely sold on The Face of Boe being the Captain. I mean, the guy is growing old but from growing old to being just a big head… I started hunting a bit of discussions on this and they sort of agreed with what I thought: perhaps the energy keeping him alive was not endless and the little that was left was sacrificed to save that planet… then the discussion shifted to a spoiler I can no longer unread so I stopped before I messed things further for myself. Still… how on earth could he become a huge head…

Anyways, it may fit but still is hard to buy.

As for the end… since when can the doctor power up with the power of positive thinking? Again the side really describes it as psychic energy being channeled to him but can that actually re-power the doctor?

Oh and saw the children in need special with the other doctor. Felt more like the actors talking than the actual character’s though, how the new doctor was telling the old that he was his doctor.
  12. Add this to the list of episodes I'll never forget:

    Human Nature/The Family Blood.

I almost cried on that one. I would had had it not been for the sudden mood change and cheery nature of the Doctor once he was back.

Yes, it is. Heck, torrents are too 2008 for me. I like streaming much better, and happens to be legal most of the time. Go figure! I would not pirate stuff if it was more readily available in legal form!

But that's a topic for another day. I think I will finish watching S3 without touching Torchwood and then start downloading, not sure if I'll try to catch up the first two seasons of Torchwood before jumping onto S4, though. Now that I know the Captain is in Torchwood though i got to ask: is he there since episode 1 or he joins in mid season?

    ?!

    ...

Well all in all, Torchwood is not up for streaming in Netflix so I'll have to find some onther way to watch it. Same goes for S4 of Doctor, and all of Sarah Jane. Perhaps if I can somehow meddle with proxi servers I may be able to stream it from the BBC site... are all seasons available for streaming in their site?

Why would they be shocked to see a human that knew the name of their race, though? Daleks have been to earth before in the main dimension's history.

    What's been your favourite episode?
The End of the World for sure. I mean, wow, the guy does not just show off how he is going to travel in time, he goes for a shocker and tosses the end of the world at us!!! WOW. That's the episode that really hooked me. The plastic monster one was a bit silly (and unfortunatedly "stupid" enough to make my wife not want to even stare at the show again.)

The first Dalek episode was a very close second, I was hit by the nostalgia blast even if I had never seen a Dalek before that episode. I have no clue how they managed to make me feel that, perhaps because of how the doctor was terrified of them himself.

What's been your least favourite episode?
Hm..... I think there is a bit of a tie up, but most of the weak episodes I found were Season 2 (so far.)
The tie up goes to Love and Monsters and Fear Her. If I was forced to pick one, then Love and Monsters, but both were equally yawn generating. For a minute I though they were going to bring the devil back on her drawings, though, I thought for a second that the episode would be "saved", that's the only reason I may pick Love and Monsters as worse than Fear Her.

    Favourite monster/enemy?
Ah... got to admit the Daleks have won my respect. Them aside... hmmm... I sort of liked the clockwork guys from The Girl in the Fire Place.

    Least favourite monster/enemy?
I will ignore the monster from Love and Monsters because already listed the episode itself so lets see.... the Bat creatures from School Reunion.

Any other comments on S1 and S2?
S2 had way too many weak episodes and Torchwood ended being a bit anticlimactic in our dimension, ironically Torchwood from the other dimension was what I expected this dimension's Torchwood to be equipped like.

The prime minister never showed up again, I was expecting her to do a strong presence related to Torchwood. They built up a lot of backup on the group and in the end the group turned out to be just another bunch of stupid humans meddling with forces they don't understand.

I felt the first season had a more discrete link between episodes, so subtle you only get to link a couple with the TV station at the end and need to go back to see the phrase Bad Wolf everywhere. S2 was much more obvious all along everything had to do with Torchwood, perhaps why I was disappointed at how Torchwood turned at the end.

Oh and K9 was so corny it made me want to skip the scenes he showed up at.

Oh and started S3, although I sort of like the new Companion I think I will miss Rose.

That's what I mean, I love to see them strongly writing this stuff into the plot though, instead of doing a last minute character kill.

I often got the impression that the Time Lords were a bit cross dimensional as well. No alternate Time Lords have ever been even alluded too... and if they did exist, in that or any dimension, then crossing dimensions would never have become "impossible" in the first place.
Well, the Daleks that came through were from that other dimenssion. They knew the Doctor (although did not recognize the face, it's a new face after all,) who himself thought it was impossible to go through dimensions unless there were ruptures in reality, and the Daleks also knew about the Time War where almost all Daleks died... darn I sound like a Doctor Who trekie....

But times have changed and, although at first sceptical, I think most of us feel it was time to explore that aspect of the Doctor and was handled well.
Seeing how he looked at Sara Jane, I'm starting to think he actually fell for all his female companions just never gave in due to knowing he would have to see them die of old age.
  17. Well, just finished season 2. If you have not done so by any chance then skip ahead because I WILL spoil things.

I am guessing that Billie Piper had to leave the show or something, but it crosses my mind that the other dimension where she got stuck... should there not be also a parallel version of the Doctor in that dimension?

Also, I thought I read somewhere that the doctor never falls in love with his companions (other than the 1995 movie many seem to intentionally ignore.) But he obviously falls for Rose... I know wiki are not necessarily dead accurate but that seems an odd thing...
  18. Unfortunately Netflix streaming only shows the episodes and not the extras.

Unfortunately too, youtube is blocked at work so cant check it right now but will at home... may be able to see it on my iphone though.... tiny screen... oh well.

BTW, on these spinoffs, do the doctor ever shows on either of these two spinoffs?

Was also checking the wiki for "related series", what about K9 and "Totally Doctor Who"?

    He'll grow on you
He sort of did already, but there will be traits of the previous doctor I guess I will forever miss. Looking back through older doctors it seems he always dressed proper or clownish, I fear the leather look may never come back, but never know what we will get with that emo guy that will come next.

I just hope they eventually do another crossover so I can get to see Eccleston at the role again.

    Quote:
Did you remember to watch "The Christmas Invasion"?
That was episode 1 of S2 in Netflix. Although already read there was a 7 minutes mini episode in between, got to see where I can catch that one up.

As for the spinoffs... what happened in BBC at 2006? It seems they jumped from wanting to kill the doctors in the late 80s to not only make a high budget (relatively speaking) show but also to make spinoffs?!

    Sara what?

Oh and finished watching Season 1, got started with Season 2, that noted something called Torchwood. I recall seeing somewhere that name in a TV show... they related?

Also on my take of the "new" (for me) doctor: I guess he is fine but I will miss the rougher look (leather jacket) and the way Eccleston said "fantastic!"

I actually have to. Well, I have to, I can't tolerate the low quality of air broadcast and pay for Comcast basic.

I already made the math, though, and UK pay about $20 us dollars a year for a channel you may not necessarily watch, I pay $15 US dollars for all local channels and then add some $30 for cable internet. Then again, US health-care sucks, you guys get socialized medicine. Not to start any arguments but I rather be in the UK or Canada if I ever got seriously sick. I think I would tolerate the high sales taxes and TV license fees.
  25. Seems I read about this license just in time, they made a reference to it in episode 12.
