It's been enemy-targeted for over two years.
...
Yeah.

Well, I haven't played in over two years. Okay, I've been back for three months, but what did you expect me to do? Actually take the power and try it, with the old description still up? That'd be like respec'ing into Call of the Wolf (Katana Taunt) based on some desperate hope that it now works like Focus (Claws cannon).
Oh, and I HATE the idea of making PFF supress like a stealth ability or travel power. If I had to wait ten seconds to activate it after performing my last attack, I'd respec out of it without a second thought.
Edit: Spelling.

I'd be a little bit more reticent about commenting on a thread when you haven't played the set in question for 2 years. -
Great post Poobah, you pretty much echo my thoughts 100% Which is also why my three defenders gather dust while my Fire/Dark corruptor gets all the play. From day one the buff/debuff + blast combo has been my favourite, and I do love my defenders - but they just don't stack up anymore compared to corruptors - which get to contribute healthy damage AND healthy buff/debuffs.
Maybe its a conspiracy by the devs to gimp defender blasts to a point that they can't solo at all (which is pretty much the case already) to make sure none of that valued primary is wasted to the greater CoH populace.
Is it just me, or does it seem like there's a huge elephant sized box in the dev studio with "DEFENDER" printed on the side that no one wants to look at? Throw 'em a frickin' bone for crying out loud.
Sorry to get OT, but my original and favourite-est AT needs love. -
There is no community. The only thing I have in common with anyone else on this thread is that I play CoH with a FF toon.
There is no good reason why anyone should drop their ideas of what FF should be for anyone elses or for a "greater good" ideal.
I'm not convinced this thread will make a lick of difference to whether FF gets any changes to be honest. The devs have shown no inclination to buff unpopular sets in the past and I don't see why they will suddenly start now. They have all the numbers, they know it doesn't offer the same uitility as other defender primaries and they know its not widely played. Don't hold your breath. -

Unless you just feel an overpowering need to play a Defender, why would you play a Defender FF when the other ATs work better with FF?
[/ QUOTE ]
Unbelievable. So your answer to fixing FF Defenders is to delete them and roll a */FF Controller or Mastermind?
That is the most utterly ridiculous thing I have ever read in this forum. And by God I've read some doozies over the years.
And you're STILL not getting it. The reason FF works better with other ATs is because those other ATs have abilities that allow you to either work with or around FFs shortcomings. It only PROVES that FF is broken for Defenders. And since FF is a Defender PRIMARY, it should work the best for us, not Controllers or Masterminds.
I don't understand why you can't comprehend this very simple, easy to grasp concept.

Because Magicj plays mind/ff and bots/ff - and the ff part is fine in a complementary role with those sets. Thus it should follow that because it does not with ff/* that the * is the problem.
What Magicj doesn't understand is that we see FF as a defender primary, and compare it to other defender primaries, rather than comparing FF in isolation across other AT's.
I think we're right, since its our Primary, and his Secondary. I don't go whining about my NRG blasts on the blaster boards now do I? -

Thank you Poobah for writing that post, putting into words what everyone else who is not Magicj (and perhaps PK) on this thread is thinking.
Its a Defender Primary first, fix it so its a viable selection for Defenders, and the rest will sort itself out. -
Who's going to slog their way through 37 levels of FF defending to magically have their problems solved by keeping 15% of their endurance when they're nuke-ing?
Changing the secondary won't make FF any more attractive to prospective defenders - it'll mean more Rads and Kins. -

The Force is not strong in this one, he needs more training to become a Master....

Which I have repeated stated, that if it requires that much work, there is something wrong. Yes, it's obvious that you and MagicJ thrive on that level of complication, but the rest of us just don't.

And honestly I'm happy with that. I don't mind if most folks feel another set is a better match for them.
But what I'd hate to see is FF made just like every other set. I'm very happy the game has a set that's a bit more work. Please don't take that away from me. Folks who want straight forward sets already have lots of choices. I don't.

I really like your videos, but I can't help but think your views are coloured a controller shade. They're your secondary, our primary. Go play your FF/* for a bit and come talk.
No matter what happens it will still be a knock back, geometry guru set. I'm just hoping it gets a -res or something to help the damage output match my other defenders. -
I think that by looking at FF in isolation you would be hard pressed to say that it was broken as a set. It does major defence and knockback exceedingly well.
Looking at the set a bit more holistically I would say that it is definitely broken. There is not enough of a disparity in terms of numbers and utility between primary and secondary.
I know this doesn't seem to bother the devs, but FF defenders are very very thin on the ground. That should tell you something. They're either not fun to play, or they're don't add enough utility to a team - at least in comparison to other sets. The vast majority of defenders I see when I play are either Emps, Rad, Dark or Kin. The proof is in the player base, not all of them can be idiots.
That said, I am really impressed by the ideas conveyed in this thread. I concur with the idea that Force Bubble should have some -acc and -res component to both differentiate it from Repulsion Field (which I think is OK now) and add some team utility. Maybe it can cost more to run to compensate for the extra debuffs.
I think Force Bolt is OK without adding damage - although sometimes I notice that it knocks back people into a standing up position, and it has essentially no effect until you use it again.
Detention Field as a toggle would be great, but it sounds like major back end work.
Repulsion Bomb should have a longer recharge, but quicker activation and a higher scale disorient. Make it DO something.
