Quote:Pocket D has bartenders.I was referring to a vendor who will buy any loot from you: enhancements, recipes and salvage.
I'll also add that having to zone to access a service isn't the same as having it in zone which kinda breaks your point. Still the critical services for trial running are the inspiration vendor and someone to sell stuff to. If Pocket D had those it would definitely be a viable alternative to the RWZ although I suspect inertia would make people continue to use the RWZ. -

Quote:Thanks, I don't think the RWZ is the best place. I was just curious why everyone was mentioning this. 1/2 of these reasons do exist in Pocket D now( Inspiration vendor, base portal, trainer) If you have an SG, you get access to the crafting and hospital. What do you mean by "buy anything vendor or was that meant to say vendorS. The difficulty slider is the only thing missing.Short answer is that it has all useful services except for Wentworths in a relatively small area. The key ones are of course a "buy anything" vendor and an inspiration vendor but it's also got other useful things such as a base portal, a crafting station, a hospital and a difficulty adjuster.

Why the RWZ? What is unique about that zone? I keep hearing everyone mention this for a potential staging area.

Quote:Passed.Have not seen the film. I do have something for you, Durakken, though. It's a test for how well a film portrays female characters. I forget what the test is called, but it has a name out there somewhere.
Anyhow: The Test for Female Characterization
1. Is there more than one major female character in the film?
2. If so, do those female characters ever talk to each other?
3. If so, do those female characters talk to each other about subjects other than men?
Gotta hit all three points to pass the test. Not many blockbuster movies do. -
Sebastion Shaw is a key player in the X-Men story. He had to be a part of this....Shaw was not a replacement for Magneto.
The only way this story moves forward is if they rewrite it a little bit. Emma/Magneto run the Hellfire Club or whatever they call it and they fight against Xavier and the story really is about the Hellfire mutants vs. X-men with human as variables in the "their" game. This story won't be told like the comics. -
Quote:The movie at its core is about acceptance.I haven't seen PotC, Fast Five, or Kung Fu Panda 2, but I would rank Thor above this and probably KFP2 equal to or better than Thor...while Pirates would likely come under that as equal or better than this, just based on genre and what I know I like...and Fast Five would get negative points >.>
Xavier saying things like "they'll never accept you that way" and "we got to hide" and things like that are signs of a weak and overall negative outlook on the situation and this is antithetical to Xavier's character who is a loud and proud mutant who wants the X-Men in the spotlight to show what good mutants are doing. Xavier is the complete opposite of what a "visibility" movement leader should be in this film and they don't have him showing signs of changing either.
Emma Frost's scenes all played to what I know about her character (though the whole squeezing a lady wrapped in diamonds to get her to change back is kinda dumb I dunno exactly how her powers work, but that is still dumb). I have a feeling though that this was more due to the actress than the writer... I mean her main scenes were walking into a place in underwear and giving a psychic lapdance...
In fact, thinking back on it, the Female characters were all pretty silent and almost always half naked or completely naked, so getting Emma Frost accurate to the point the movie did is no large feet considering she doesn't have to talk be clothed for most of it.
And now that I think about the movie really gave off an anti-feminist vibe with all the nakedness, lack of females talking, the talking of not accepting based on looks, angel saying the way she didn't like the way the guards looked at her... it seems to me that the entire movie centered around how they should look or want to look rather than this issue that they're dangerous to themselves and others and either that new paradigm has to be accepted or curtailed... even the main villain with all his power ultimately was relying on nuclear missiles which doesn't show how dangerous he and mutants are but rather how dangerous mankind is to itself.
Like I said, badly written and the more I think on it the worse I tend to view it.
Thor wasn't that good I don't know what the fuss is there(I'm willing to hear why it's so good). Fast Five has the best action scenes so far(the vault drive was over the top). KFP2 has the best CGI work if you have a technical/CGI background. Thor's CGI was good too. Pirates has the best dialogue. -
Quote:Welcome to the discussion, Durakken. For all the people saying how good this was... it was mediocre at best in my opinion. It felt too expository and rushed while none of the characters felt right and I never connected to any of them nor did I care to. The villain was just dumb as it was a replacement for magneto rather than a well thought out character and his scheme is idiotic at best.
Xavier was to pessimistic
Magneto was too brain dead
Beast was too focused on appearance... they're his feet people... noone looks at his feet and why would you want to look like a dork? I mean if you can give yourself a normal foot you can certainly change the rest of your features a lot more simply so why go that way?
Angel doesn't have enough exposition to justify her going evil
Banshee is lame. Why would you use him? And it never really pays off.
Havoc is stupid to use... he's Scott's YOUNGER brother... why not use scott? Any reason you can use for Scott works better than it does for Havoc.
Darwin... the one character that seems interesting of the lame cast of characters
Mystique... She wasn't really a character imo, she was a sounding board and a plot device...and the people that sounded off her all did so insultingly and out of character... She's a freakin woman that can look any way she wants. They could developed her so much better by having her react to people being d-bags about her appearance not being what they want.
The only character they got right and the only scenes that were better than mediocre to crap were the Emma Frost scenes. Every other scene was just mediocre or bad...
The acting was good, the directing was good, the special effects were good... so I can only fault the studio and the writers for everything that is bad with this movie. If they gave this to a better writer and was able to keep all or most of the actors I think they could have been a much better movie...unfortunately I don't think that will happen.
This movie was 2 hours and 12 minutes. I think this is the first in a series.
Can you elaborate on these comments:
-Xavier was to pessimistic
-The only character they got right and the only scenes that were better than mediocre to crap were the Emma Frost scenes.
This movie wasn't bad...nothing can compare to the lame stuff from 2010!! Mediocre/okay is more accurate. Out of the summers movies so far, this one is 2 or 3
1. Pirates
2. X-men/Fast Five
3. Kung Fu Panda 2
4. Thor -

Quote:I made this comment because I thought they wanted to get more productive use out of the LFG. These solutions don't address the problems. All they do is move private LFGs to Open for merit purposes.I disagree. The upgrades are not a perfect solution but they are an improvement over what we currently have. I don't necessarily think that they will have the effect that the devs are hoping for but from a player point of view it is an improvement. It does offer a potential new incentive for griefing but it also offers the option for more control which can only be a good thing.
Now I do somewhat agree with you that the system is not necessarily a good idea in the first place. If it had been introduced for Task Forces I would have been ecstatic but given the larger team sizes I'm not convinced that a random team former is the way to go.
Maybe a dedicated zone will fix this quicker than a LFG fix at least everyone will be in the same zone and they'll all be Alphas +. If you go to x zone, every one will be present and searchable(leaders will know they can participate since they got into the zone). -
My description was not very clear. We use many terms to describe women. Thick, Fat, Hot, Healthy, Stocky, etc.
In my use, I noticed she was not thin. She was a full bodied girl for whatever reasons. Her thighs were loose. Her "booty" was round like a bubble. She just looked a little overweight in the natural scenes. I might have been looking too close or maybe it was the IMAX screen. -
Quote:If this is the solution, I think they should forgo implementing this. It's going to be used as an exploit. Just go back to the old way, put contacts somewhere so we have to click to start to this.I believe the vote-kick is the intended solution to that. Whether it will work is another matter (for example it would be easy to force a failure on Lambda if you really wanted to before the league could realize and kick you).
At the end of the day I think the community will vote with how they play. If people griefing open leagues becomes a major problem the community will decide to forgo the extra merits and run closed leagues (or possible run open leagues but fill them completely before starting). Now this is, essentially what is happening now (although without the specific ability for a closed league. The devs are giving us some of what we want (the ability to form a closed league) but are also offering a bribe to try to get us not to use it. Only time will tell if the bribe is sufficient to make people abandon the safety and convenience of the closed league for the risk of an open league.
OR
Do nothing and rethink this system. -

Quote:You are right about 20 years ago. In the mid 90s they put pants on her(when I read the comics, http://comicartwomen.blogspot.com/20...-23-pixie.html) but I visited the Marvel's site today and searched for images and they flip between the styles now. I read a series back then about her history and she was not portrayed as a sex object. She was portrayed a business woman running an organization with special "Properties" Unfortunately, the internet blossomed after this period so I can't reference the series.Hmmmm, my memories of Frost in comics growing up had her looking even $luttier. She wore actual pants far more in the movie than I ever remembered.... Then again I gave up on comics close to 20 years ago, so how they present Frost now I have no idea.
Quote:I actually liked how they introduced her and built her role up during the film, and then I was annoyed at the finish. To just cut her off like that seemed... abruptly contrary to Xavier's moral portrayal to that point.
Your opinion is noted, and filed under fascinating.[/QUOTE] -
Quote:It's always fun to see Ironside...that was a nice touch.I almost forgot, I "squeed" for real when the Navy Captain removed the binoculars and it was Michael Ironside!
Oh, and Chris Hemsworth (rw?) was sexy as hell as Thor.

Chris WAS perfect as Thor -

I liked X-men First Class.
But first, I think the studios don't really want the creative restictions by keeping the movies too close to comics. Seriously, if you want the comic story, you go read the comics, right?
But moving along, It was funny to see Charles as the impulsive youth. It seemed artifical to me at first but it was appropriate for his development.
Fassberg, while nothing compared to Ian McKellen, was most engaged. The scene with Charles and him moving the dish was interesting. Charles created/developed Magneto.
We talked earlier about Emma Frost, January Jones wasn't so bad in this film. She needs to get more bass in her voice though and drop the mad men housewife/milf vibe. Also, she needs to drop the big hair and look a little younger. They should have put a little more work into her character's presentation. In the comics, I remember Emma always wearing pants or long coats/dresses. Emma was always about Business!! In the movie scene where she met the Russian general in the cold, she had a hat on her head but she was wearing a short skirt. I laughed out loud when I saw it. Just little things like that just make the character look tacky(She looked like a $lut to me). But we get a view of Emma Frost and we'll see how she develops.
I think Jones is the right person for this role though.
I had several concerns about this movie though.
- Dr. Moira MacTaggert, I love Rose Byrne...but this was her worst film choice ever. I thought Moira was a "trusted" friend of mutants, she seemed like a wildcard to me. That bit at the end just ticked me off. Charles is a fool for letting her around them now.
- Emma Frost, She was manipulating everyone else but she couldn't manipulate American CIA operatives? This was just odd to me. Why would she just sit in prison will all of her powers?
- I didn't realize what an idealist Charles Xavier was until I saw the life or death struggle with the missiles. I would not be human-friendly after that if I was a mutant. Mystique made the right move.
- Mystique - Did Jennifer Lawrence look kind of chunky in the film? I know she's young and probably still has girlish features/babyfat but when I read interviews with her, she just seemed more intelligent. I wondered what all the hoopla/hype surrounding her was about? In the credits, I noticed they assigned 11 people to her for the makeup bit.
- Banshee - Every time I saw Sean Cassidy I couldn't help but think of Ronald Weasley.I'm sorry
Again, I liked the movie...and Sebastion Shaw is not dead!! If he can manipulate energy then we'll see him again. -

If any of you have had video display problems with ustream or video in general under IE. A fix was a post on Microsoft's Forum.
Flash is one of the problems:

Quote:How will they be able to distinguish to give the additional merits then? This is a problem then.Actually the leader won't be random. If you pre-form a league and enter the queue it will use the same system as now.
The only changes are that it's now possible to block people from joining via the queue and selecting "join trial in progress" will now put you in a trial even if it's above minimum strength (I think, Posi implied this but it was not explicitly confirmed).
So the easiest way to get the bonus merits without taking random people on your team is to form a full league. -
Quote:So what if it is. It's a simple fact that most people hate having the star and eagerly pass it off to someone that wants it. And control freaks are just the type of player that will want the star and will grab it as soon as it's offered.
Now I'm not trying to say this will happen frequently, the control freaks are a very small fraction of the community, but it will happen nonetheless.
Most will do it and learn to use it. It's all good. We have lots of leaders that just need a chance to stand up.... -
Quote:Yes, but the leader will be random...I think most just want to play and get merits, all this bs about teams and +3 will go out the window. Merits, Merits, Merits is what all of us think about it. Whether we fail or succeed we still get them...Team Leaders still have the ability to kick anyone they like whenever they like. That was what the whole fuss was about a few weeks ago. People getting kicked from open leagues where the Team Leaders only wanted a certain number of players (like the minimum required) or just people they knew and not random Puggers.
