Having played some EQ, where all the procs were merely chances less than 100% (regardless of what "proc" was short for), that's my feeling about what a "proc" is. WHich is why I call the things like the Numina Unique "120's" or "Proc-like 120s".

In fact, the MMO industry in general is heading in this direction (with companies like Cryptic and Sony Online Entertainment leading the charge).

I don't want to see Influence sold in this game, but everyone who wants to buy it already does, that's the reality, so if there is any damage to be done, it's been done. Only, NCsoft isn't getting the profits. The gold sellers are.
I don't know about Cryptic, but for the games that SOE sells gold in, IIRC it's only available on a series of servers you may not transfer off of to "non-selling" servers. The other games are all Micro-transaction funded, as well, aren't they?
  4. gtg is always fun, as it can mean "good" or "got" to go...
  5. I refer to that kinda travel as the "Tactical n00b Retreat".

Kinda agree with you, FX, I've never had issues in the Hollows
  6. For levels 35+, there are also two/three sells everything/buys everything at the best price. The Vanguard base in the Rikti War Zone is no longer restricted, and the store is next to Lady Gray and the Drill Instructor (Trainer). In the Midnighter's Club down the long hall by the crystal sitting at a round table is another store, in and Cimmeroa itself in the Fountain Plaza is another store. Please note these stores have long lists, and lists 35-40, then 45-50, of a given origin before moving to the next.
  7. Although it's pretty much a player run forum, in the "Development" subforum is a tech help and issues forum - I recommend that in the future for those kinds of issue because a large number of the people here are helpful only once you get in game. Father Xmas being an exception, and I'm not sure if Panzer is good with the tech stuff, or a former victim of the same problem

It's Dark/Dark. I have the two Fear powers from those sets, and then the ENTIRE Presence pool. I have three Taunts, and Four Fears, all six slotted. In full teams, I never use any attacks. I just use my Taunts and Fears over and over and over again. All the enemies are looking at me, and they're terrified. I highly suggest it to you, Fleeting, as it sounds like you'd love it as well. (And hopefully we get our Dark Miasma Controllers eventually.)
Well, /FF has detention. Not an AoE like dark's IIRC, but it's another cage.

If you could, then you'd be guaranteed to get a purple after defeating 38 minions, and we know that doesn't work.

But, generally, you're right: if you can defeat three or four minions much faster than you can defeat a boss, then you're wasting time on the boss. However, the level of the boss may be 47-49, so if you have a ready supply of bosses of that level mixed in with minions it won't take you much longer to take them down, especially if you're using lots of AoEs -- you can concentrate on the bosses and your AoEs will wipe out the minions without even trying.
Bad math there... since even if it was 1:500, and that seems high, it would be a .2% chance of a given pool A being a purple per drop, and you only get a pool A at less than 4% of the time off a minion. So 3 minions would not be a nearly 8% chance of getting a purple.

Anyway, on my Elec/Shield - walking into the mob, waiting a tick or two so my aura gives me a nice damage bonus, hit Buildup/Liightning Rod/Shield Charge.

    Who says scrappers can't nuke?

Also, really want /traps for controllers. Get some Grav/Traps, and on a whole team of traps, everyone drops trip mine and the next grav up uses wormhole...

They are coded, however, that you can't slot them unless you are 50. What a mob drops, insofar as inventions is concern, only cares about what is dropping the item - receiving character's level is not a factor.

So in theory the quickest way to farm recipes is to set difficulty to -1/+8 and go on a killing spree?

Edit: the above is assuming a lvl 50 toon.
If the character is already 50, yeah. If you can, pick up a mission at either 48, or 49 (and run at -1 so it's effectively 48) and then run at x8 at fifty (47 minions are grey, thus don't drop salvage/recipes, for a 50)

Pool C+D is always weighted. This is the *extra roll* for drop that comes from defeating a boss. It's the same weighted table that the Merit Vendor Rare Recipe Roll uses and the Ticket Vendor Gold Recipe Roll uses. This info is from Synapse himself.

The Wiki says it's unsure whether Purple rolls are pool A, but I think someone on the boards here convinced me they were Pool A... that should be updated if I can find that confirmation.

Edit: Ah, here it is: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=2344003. I'm updating the Wiki to say that purple recipes are Pool A.
I'd forgotten about the bosses thing.

I would advise that route, though 6 SOs of a specific type could still take a while.
Didn't they nerf those three dropping SOs, or am I thinking of a different trio, because of farming?

Mad Briar - I have an idea of what your system is probably running like - your video card is better than the one I had when i started, anyway If you get the chance to upgrade your system, it will improve a lot for you.

Also, if you decide to upgrade to a full account :

Check Big Lots if you have one in the area - specifically for Good vs. Evil edition or the Architect Edition (I know the latter is still in big stores in places.) Both have some nice extras and a full months play - all the retail boxes do, either hardcopy or digital. I recommend the Magic pack for the free pack choice given by the AE edition.

    1. My understanding is that aside from purchasing the recipes from WW the other options are Hami raids (which I've never done), regular missions or AE missions in order of the more likely place to get a drop, is that so?

    2. From what I read on wiki the set bonuses only apply if all of that set are slotted in the same power and parts of the set can't be repeated in the same power... so does that mean that I could slot the full Hecatomb set in every melee power I have assuming they all have six slots? And if price/time weren't an issue would there really be a reason not to do so?

Thanks for any help on this.
1 Hamidon, the other trials, and Task/Strike forces now award merits, which can be redeemed at a Merit vendor (one at each market, and various other places). They used to let you choose a random recipe, but no longer with merits. You can choose a random roll for 20 merits or so at a vendor, or save up to buy a specific recipe. AE drops tickets (unless Dev's choice and you've chosen regular rewards) which are redeemed at the ticket Vendor for various level rolls.

2 - Yes and No. Each piece of Hectacomb is unique, so only one of each piece can be slotted per build. This is true with all purples. But other than that, yeah. Note, a given set bonus only stacks five times with itself, so many deversify their sets for that reason. More info can be found at Paragon Wiki.

When the service came up, we all received 6 tokens. Each token replenishes 1 week after it's use, so if you used one on Monday last week, 3 on Wednesday, and 2 on Friday, you would of gotten 1 back on Monday, 3 on Wednesday, and will get the last 2 back tomorrow.

The basic mob drops (which govern purples) go by these rules :

    Roll for chance to drop.

Roll to decide what category/rarity the recipe is : Common/Uncommon/Rare/Purple (common having a bigger chance than uncommon, either which have a bigger chance than rare, all three of which each individually have a bigger chance than Purples.)

Each recipe in each rarity is given equal weight to drop.

I know that the AE rolls are weighted, IIRC, and I've heard they might of (un/lower)weighted some of the snipes in merit rolling, but that's it.

There is no weighting at all in any invention recipe award system based on AT.

Redside has some severe market shortages going on, which is making prices soar even higher than Blueside on some items.

On top of that, the period of quick 50's meant people potentially could go 1-50 in 3 hours. That's a tremendous amount of inf generated in a very short period of time. Multiply that by a large sample of the population doing this, and inflation starts running rampant.

I assume that when the two of these combined, you had a pretty hefty hit on inflation. On the bright side, lots of things are selling more than they used to, which means it is also easier to make inf.

The most profitable method of earning inf continues to be the market, whether it's by flipping recipes, crafting, or simply using the market to sell your drops and listing them intelligently.

Using AE for tickets can be profitable, providing the recipes aren't saturated, which has happened to quite a few recipes (so there's some things cheaper than they used to be)

Running TF's daily tends to generate a nice amount of merits, which can be used to roll on randoms or specific recipes. However, for the time needed, it does not compare to AE ticket generation (though you might find soloing AE at x/8 difficulty gets monotonous after a while).
Also, the AE fifties didn't level up with normal mobs, and not with Dev's Choice, so no possible purple drops. Thus Higher demand with a drop in supply.
