Okay, I'm off to bed. Keep spreading the word and if anyone has ideas on how we could help this gain traction, let me know or even take the initiative yourself. Just remember to use your best judgement, whatever you do or don't do.

Quote:I don't read Gutters, but I am a fairly regular reader of LICD. If anyone wants to contact Sohmer, go for it - I'd offer, but it might carry more weight coming from a reader.Another place you might want to consider sending emails to is Gutters. They write popular webcomics based on the comic book industry and everything associated with it. Considering this is the world's most popular superhero MMO, and it draws so much inspiration from comic books, I'm sure Ryan Sohmer would whip up something based around this game's plight. That, at least, would get some more media exposure.

Basically this. With EA involved, we'd be looking at a Pet Cemetery scenario.

Quote:Don't worry about it. The paras should be landing on your porch in a moment and I lost the recall button.Gotcha. Just want to make sure the message isn't overshadowed by the potential international incident I may cause, lol.
Quote:Once you pick a goal to commit to -- like, "Save Paragon Studios" -- you've got to really commit. Don't be so picky about the details; we can worry about whether the devil we're selling our souls to was really a tanar'ri later on.
EA has had a track record of doing... exactly not that. -
Quote:I wasn't being serious.
Well, again, I would like to reiterate, I'm not lumping everyone over there into the "don't bother" group. Heck, there's probably some Americans in there too, I just haven't seen them.
Well, I was being serious about being European, not serious about any offense taken. -
-
Quote:Heh.Judging by the "EU" in your name I'm assuming you're from Europe? This is by no means my $#*tting you guys, just an observation, but it seems a lot of those saying "don't bother, they'll never go for it" or something similar in other threads are from that region.
-is, of course, and ironically, from the Grand Dutchy of Yurp- -
I agree - that's why I brought up the amount of already existing content, as well as the loyalty {and prospective gratitude} of the players.

Hey, thanks for adding the Valve email campaign - 'ppreciate it.

Quote:Actually...At some point a long time from now you'll realise how utterly ludicrous it is to be trying an email campaign to Valve, so they'll use their own money to brawl over City of Heroes with NCSoft because you emailed them a bit.
You're asking them to make a simply colossal effort, which is what this is, for very little return. You know what, I think they're going to do nothing and continue to be mind bogglingly wealthy without the effort.
No. I'm not doing that at all.
I'm operating under several assumptions;
- CoH has been, and can still be made profitable
- People, no matter how many, emailing Valve will not make them buy the game. It will, however, make them notice and investigate the prospect if enough people contact them. With their attention, the acquisition will probably fail because there are a lot of factors that could completely invalidate the idea {which you would have probably noticed if you read the email more carefully}. Without it, it will definitely fail.
- Valve knows how to manage a business successfully. They have yet to fail, and they've consistently shown that they understand how much the loyalty of a playerbase can lift or sink a game.
-
Maybe, maybe not. Fact is, they're hurting for money, and bad. CoH might compete with their other superhero MMO oh wait they don't have one. And yes, it's a desperate move, but Valve has the financial clout to buy it, and the exposure to make it successful enough to make the money back.

Quote:Then write them a letter. It might not work, but a handful of emails won't make them take notice - if we flood them, they'll... well, either they'll recalibrate their spam filters or actually look at the prospect, but they'll definitely notice at least, even if it turns out not to be an option. As I've said elsewhere: Valve is my first choice of a new publisher. Those guys are awesome.
Also, can someone come up with a boilerplate version of the petition? I mean, the one I sent was a little personal, I wouldn't be comfortable with it being used as a general copypaste. -
So, follow it up? The more emails they get, the more likely they'll at least notice?
-
I'll just leave this here.
The email form for VALVe is at http://www.valvesoftware.com/email.php . It seems that the form doesn't react well to links. Also, the spam filter is case-sensitive. If you can't use the form, you can also try mailing Gabe Newell directly at gaben@valvesoftware.com
------------------
Also, can some of the more socially-connected players spread the word as well, possibly even get some sort of concerted effort going, maybe even try and get some of the gaming sites and magazines on board? I would but I don't even have Twitter. If anyone can get a hold of gaming magazine writers and ask them to write about various other initiatives as well, like the Titan Network's attempts of acquiring the IP, the petition and the like.

If you don't know what to say, Tremblay's message is funny and to the point, while Angel of Retribution made a more pragmatic version.

Quote:Gabe Newell is the head honcho over at Valve. He'd be the best bet.I'd send something but I dunno who I would send it to, there's so many names. (Yeah, I'm not as knowledgeable about the industry as I'd like to believe.)
------------------
Quote:I think the best way to go about it is in a business sense. Yes, Valve probably has a conscience, but if Gabe bought up every sob story he came across he wouldn't be rich.
Also do your best to remind them that they'd have a fiercely loyal playerbase that would literally love them forever. -
Nice.
That reminds me - where are all the cinematic trailers nowadays? -
Well, I'm loading the character list screen, and Virtue dropped to green. Some sort of hiccup?
-
And I can't get back in.
Is this it?
No bang? -
