Not at all true.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not saying that there is that attitude. I'm expressing a concern that there could be that attitude on the other side of the screen. And I'm not saying you don't give a crap. Unless you're the only cat over there developing this puppy. I got fully honked off over the Gadgets thing. I freely admit that. You posted (something someone who didn't give a crap wouldn't do) and said it was a legacy thing and that pretty much was that. Then folks started going on about people flipping out over something that was "just a name slip". So, I had to point out that it wasn't the name slip, but what I feared it meant. Something you'd already addressed.
Was it a dopey thing to get honked off over? I guess. But, disregarding the disregard we've disregarded, it felt like insult to injury. Announcing another Devices nerf, especially to a power that's already hinky enough as it is, was bad enough without the name slip. I mean, if you're going to "punch" someone's "donkey", the least you can do is get that person's name right. Or, you know, give them some of the merlot you made in the toe-let. -

Hell, he apparently didn't get the memo that Nov 11th stopped being about the end of WWI in, oh, 1954. -
What gets me is:
- [*] They couldn't get the name of the powerset they've repeatedly nerfed correct when nerfing it yet again.[*] They're nerfing a power that was never powerful to begin with.[*] The one thing that made AT useful is the one thing they're removing.[*] They're not even nerfing it because people were 'porting ATs (and AMs) around.[*] They're nerfing it because people were using TP Foe on things they shouldn't have been like Malta ATs and DE Eminators among other things.[*] This nerf, I strongly suspect, has little to do with a PvE exploit but a PvP one.[*] Instead of making these things highly resistant to TP Foe yet still 'portable with Recall Friend, like say Electro-Brutes, they're fixing a problem with a handgrenade instead of a scalpel. [*] No trade-off is offered for compensation for the change... again. Not that, in my opinion, there should be any compensation because this change should not be going live. AT, while hinky, is useful as it currently is and do not think mobility is the way to go. Not to mention would be much harder to code than simply tweeking TP Foe Res. A damage boost would be nice, but that should be done in addition to retaining its 'portability. Will that happen or will it just get blown off an the change go live? I think we all know the answer to that one.[/list]All of these, very much including the name slip, invariably leads one to conclude that there's a certain level, "Meh, [censored] 'em." attitude going on. When you're relaying information to your customerbase you use publically used terminology, not insider terminology
[/ QUOTE ]
That sounds very reasonable. That must be why in over 2.5 years of this game the developers have been using the term devices in every patch note and every forum post, except in one instance, and the 1 forum post was an apology for the 1 test server patch text mistake.
[/ QUOTE ]
And seeing as the Trip Mines nerf was not only not even mentioned in the patch notes it was never admitted to after I3 went live, I suppose I should be happy for at least getting a head's up. [/sarcasm] For the record I dropped the whole issue when _Castle_ posted and would've left it dropped if not for [censored]hats that insist on dragging it the [censored] back up. It was a slip. That's very true. Exactly how Freudian a slip it was has people, myself included, concerned. -
[ QUOTE ]
And he wasn't wrong to call Devices Gadgets. That's just the internal developer nomenclature for the set. Kind of like what we call mobs they'll call critters.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wrong. When you're relaying information to your customerbase you use publically used terminology, not insider terminology. Ford announces a problem with their cars' cigarette lighter sockets, they tell their customers about the cigarette lighter sockets not "that hot thing". Secondly, when a part of your customerbase wonders if you give a crap about them, and you are about to stick it to them once again, the least you can do is get the details right. When changes come down for other ATs, tradeoffs are often made to blunt the impact on the customerbase affected. For Devices Blasters, not only are there no tradeoffs made for changes made, the devs apparently can't even be bothered to get the name of the powerset they've repeatedly nerfed and are about to nerf again correct. It's perceived as insult to injury and can, and should, be easily avoided. -
[ QUOTE ]
Castle called devices "gadgets" mistakenly, and people have been ragging him and the other rednames in general for it since.
[/ QUOTE ]
Funny how many folks see a slip that's indicative of a greater problem as just a slip and not the greater problem its indicative of. -
[ QUOTE ]
I dare you little ****ies to come to the Corruptor forum and say that.
[/ QUOTE ]
/em shiver Tell them what? That Offenders... er, I mean Corruptors aren't happy with the 75% some (such as you) keep kvetching about the way some Defenders kvetch about their 66%. They aren't factoring in the buff/debuff/damage mitigation they have access to. Things Blasters don't have access to. You want 100%? Fine ya friggin' crybabies. Give up your ability to buff yourself, debuff your tagerts, and otherwise mitigate the damage your targets are sending your way.
I recall my first Dark/Dark Corruptor. We had just experianced a near teamwipe that I had survived. As I stood there dispatching mobs surviving the damage being sent my way I knew there was no way in hell the devs would ever give Blasters a self-heal, or any of the other damage mitigation tools Corruptors have. It would be decidedly unbalanced. Too bad the folks who have those tools can't see the same thing when they go on about their 75%/66% damage output. -
Oh, I didn't say you were using auto-reply, I said you weren't making a lick of sense in that mishmash of a post. Just didn't feel like typing all that out so I stuck with "Huh?". Running your yap on a subject you clearly know little about is one thing. Doing so without coherence or, heaven forefend, paragraphs, is just rude.

Funny, up until ED everyone said it was bar-none the best blaster secondary out there. Suddenly after ED everyone's saying it wasn't that great before... Funny how revisionist history tends to happen on things like this...
[/ QUOTE ]
It wasn't ED, it was the repeated changes up to and including ED. I2 fixed the SG/Caltrops bug, which is fine. I3 brought the (unannounced) deboobitrapification of Trip Mines. GDN reduced the defense of Cloaking Device. Further changes, things like suppression now, in an interesting use of a double negative, cause your -Perception SGs to drop your -Perception CD and since SGs now give you a whopping 3.5% debuff, they're not really worth bothering with. ED came along and made taking TD worthless for non-PvPers because the whole reason for taking it was the ability to six-slot your attacks with damage was now null and void. That's it. ED didn't do this to */Dev. Your fixation with hanging this on ED is like saying plays are deadly to Presidents because Lincoln happened to be shot at one. ED's a part of the problem with */Dev, but it's not to only one. -

Last time I checked, there is no Gadgets secondary. There is, however, one called Devices. Freudian slips like this and folks wonder why some hold the belief that the devs don't seem to know the Blaster AT all that much.
[/ QUOTE ]
Gadgets is the internal name of Devices. It's a Legacy issue and it was my mistake when adding the patch note.
As for the change itself, there was an exploit involving TFoe and various stationary entities (like Auto Turret.) In fixing this, the player versions of these entities were locked down as well. I do realise this impacts one of the tactics Devices players used to bypass the limitations of the set. I'll be keeping an eye on this to see if the change hampers the gameplay too severely.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why Castle didn't respond with a ban and a string of expletives to a snide remark like that, I don't know.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm, perhaps he's much cooler than the megalomaniacal totalitarian whackjob you'd clearly be in his place if someone dared to voice their grievances?
[ QUOTE ]
It is, after all, just a name.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really. Not to folks who wonder, with good reason, if the dev team ignores the AT to the point of not even knowing it. Things like Defiance, continued backburnering, seeming to not know the name one of the powersets in the AT all serve to reinforce this concern on the part of the playerbase. Sometimes a cigar isn't just a cigar. -
Gothbat's talking out his/her [censored]. This quote, "...and you can toe-bomb as normal" among others clearly demonstrates this. Just ignore him/her.
Kali... darn good point. If this was because of griefers 'porting Malta ATs around, a timer (like the players' version) or having it blow when the owner faceplants (like the players' version) would deal with it. As would it deal with the high level ambush leftovers that still show up in lowbie zones. Nevermind the longstanding question I've had about sending high-level players to low-level zones when there are plenty of zones out there. It was a running gag as our 45+ team was heading to Steel or Perez to mention that the mission should be in the Rikti Crash Site. When you go zipping around a corner in King's or around a tree in Perez and run smackdab into Malta or Rikti who have like 30 or 40 levels on you, something's out of whack. -

It really is a ridiculous power, and not one that you ever see in comic books, except as a plot hook, such as when a group of heroes are teleported up to an alien space ship to be used as pawns in a intergalactic gladiator game.

LOL,... /QFT (JLU ftw!)
As for Device Blasters... Atleast you've got 100% Damage and trip-mine in the 20's.
Try playing a /Trap Corr that only has 75%, and no TripMine until 35.
I'll give ya a hint, the FF generator doesn't make up for it!
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, two mindless trolls in one thread. We should bottle this and sell it for bait.
[/ QUOTE ]
The funny thing is how people compare a corrupters 75% damage (and other archtype) to a blaster's 100%. Corrupters do 75% of the damage a blaster, but a corrupter's attack does 100% within it's own archtype. A blaster hitting a non resisted target for 100 damage does 100% damage, a corrupter doing 75 damage to a non-resisted target is doing 100% damage, plus the possibility at Scourge and buffs/debuffs.
People need to realize a blaster does 100% damage and only 100% damage. Other archtypes do 45%, 66%, 75%, 80% and 112% of blasters, while also having things like 75% defenses of a tanker and 75% or 85% the capability of a defender. Damage is not the end-all be-all.
[/ QUOTE ]
Far too many people only see damage and have no friggin' clue what else is out there. The funny thing is, these folks normally aren't Blasters. More often than not they're not Blasters but are jealous of Blasters (our *snicker* vaunted damage levels and the fact that more often than not, these folks have found the lack of a safteynet far too frustrating for them and are cranky with folks who can pull it off without the 'net) and conveniently fail to factor in the rest of the tricks they have access to that Blasters do not. Sure, if they had all thier tricks and Blaster-level damage, they'd be pleased as punch. Why not? They'd have their tankmage. -
[ QUOTE ]
What gameplay? Why doesnt one of the devs play a /dev blaster to 50 just using pugs, that way you can see just how crappy the set is now. (yes i know some people can adapt around and play it well but a secondary should have to be graded in terms of difficulty, /dev would certainly be in the expert category as it stands)
[/ QUOTE ]
Why do I now have the image of one of the devs screwing up and instead of being forced to cut off one of thier own fingers (ala the Yakuza) they'd forced to run a */Dev Blaster to lvl 50 in PuGatory?
:shiver: -
[ QUOTE ]
All this griping about not being able to TP AT anymore, thing is, I've only ever seen one person using it at all before. Ever. You'd think they just crippled the best power in the set or something.
[/ QUOTE ]
The nerf to AT is just another in a long line of nerfs to Devices. We're not the ones fixating on the AT nerf. If anything, you're myopically focused on this one "tree" and missing the rest of the "forest". If you don't understand why people are aggitated, no manner of explaination if really going to get it through your head. -

_Castle_ Thanks for replying. This does help to assuage concerns. As for impact... well, it's pretty much yam-bagged Auto Turret. I'm all for plugging exploits and all that, but could, in no way, see how my ability to 'port Deuce around qualified, especially this far along. Hopefully you can implement the change in such a way as to do what you had intended without sticking a fork in the eye of a thrice-blind powerset.

I agree that blasters completely suck for soloing, but there are ATs(scrappers, stalkers, brutes) that are pretty outclassed on teams.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wha? Blasters completely suck for soloing? News to me. You basing this on personal experiance? Are we talking PvP or PvE here? Scrappers and Brutes are outclassed on teams? By whom? When you have an AT that has great offense and defense they are going to be better on a team than an AT that has great offense but very little in the way of defense.
I don't know if this is all-PvP experiance you're coming from or what but you're about 180 degrees out of phase. -

And you're right... this is basically just another nerf to blasters. How is it exactly that porting AT was too powerful?
They waited 'till I8 for this?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, */Gad... er... */Dev is essentially Blasters' */Regen. An issue ain't an issue without a */Dev nerf. Seriously. They couldn't have fixed this "problem" (read: Blasters using their brains) when they fixed SGs and 'Trops with I2? Or when they deboobytrapified Trip Mines with I3? Or when they further nerfed SGs so the debuff was now around 3%? Or when they added suppression to CD? Or when they made SGs trigger CD's suppression? Or when ED made TD worthless for anyone who doesn't PvP? -
Would depend on what you're trying to do and/or expecting wouldn't it? As power in the late game as Controllers? How mant ATs are? It seems like too many people want Doms to dish out Blaster levels of damage. My Mind/Psi is still plugging away and quite fun... even if she's a commie.
-
Ah, well there's the rub then isn't it? I care about the PvE side and my posts are colored by my PvE experiance. Thorizdin's on the other hand, are [typically] based on an experiance with and a care for PvP.
-
First off, I was talking inherents, not the ATs. Secondly, bull[censored]. Do Doms need attention? Sure. Do Blasters have it all over Doms in every facet of the game? Overstate things much?
-
Hey! I... have MPD. Yeah, that's it. Don't make me file an ADA complaint with the Justice Department you.
