  1. "Of course, it's no trouble at all"

Nyte stated to Hunter though inwardly cringing...the times she'd been to those offices she'd mostly been apologizing for damages caused by Grifter because someones car...or other worldly possesion had come between him and a thug or two. Oh well..maybe they'd forgotten her by now.

Glancing up to get her barings because lets face it when you have wing's most ofhte landmarks you recognize are higher then street level and she too had just moved in nd while she knew the city quite well the individual streets were still somewhat new..because well...she generally flew over them.

She recognized one of the buildings near-by however and nodded to herself slightly.

"They're a bit to the east, should be pretty easy to walk on over ther, bye Mabel"

she smiled at the older women and once more reminded herself to use back entrences in the future in order to avoid her as much as possible. maybe leaving a window unlocked would be a wise decision - she could just fly in and out.

    "shall we?"

she asked Huner motioning in the right direction.
  2. Nyte was well aware that an empaths abilities were highly personal...everyone she'd met had described how they expirienced thier gfts in differant ways, Nyte personally felt this was simply a psychological expression - at its core most of the abilities were probably quite the same but the individual minds expressed them in terms easily understood by the weilder.

She had met for instence an empath who described someone hiding thier feelings as cloaking themselves in shadow, another who spoke of the flavor of emotion and a third the colours.

When Hunter conciously decided to hide his emotions from her Nyte got the distinct impression of a fleeing creature, and while she didn't know him well enough to have gotten a clear reading from his reserved mind in any case...she knew when he pulled away. It wasn't an alien feeling - indeed it was a common response still it saddened her somewhat when people reacted so...she tried very hard not to pry into the unwilling mind unless it was absolutely necessary, of course he could hardly know that she reminded herself and though a flicker of sorrow flitted through her gaze she resolved not to hold the reaction against him, flashing him a reassuring smile.

Mabel by this time was practically on top of them and Nyte turned her smile to the old women, fixing her gaze on the nasty little dog until catching her eye it stopped it's infernal yacking. Quite frankly it would have given her a headache and Nyte felt no qualms about emotionally suggesting to the little dog that it was quite sleepy and content at the moment - no need to bark.

"Yes well, I hope you weren't expecting press coferences or new's article Ma'am I'm afraid I'm not quite so well known as some of the others"

She remarked to the older women gently, but the women hardly noticed as she was already focused on Hunter...nyte barely caught wind of what she was saying to him before she was assailed by the mans fear - not even a closed and hidden mind could withhold a reaction of that strength.

It was like getting hit with a mack truck and Nyte nearly on instinct sent her senses flying outwards and reached towards Hunter, almost as quickly as she reacted Nyte registered that thier were no wounds to heal...and no imediate danger present...at least she couldn't detect any malice or agression in the surrounding people.

She stopped her hand before it actually came close to touching Hunter, akwardly dropping it to her side - people like him she knew didn't take well to either sudden motions or being touched by people they hardly knew.

    "Sorry..old habit"

she murmurred trying to recal just what Mabel had said to send the man into such a frenzy, something about his family and she chewed on her lip alightly as she looked at him clearly trying to decipher his puzzle. She couldn't help it really..it was just the way she was, she was genetically programmed to help the wounded, even if they didn't particularly want that help.
  3. It wasn't hard to notice Hunters reaction to the Vanguard and while he didn't step backwards he cleary wanted to - one didn't need to be an empath to see the general tensing of his stance, at least not if you knew what to look for. Intresting..normal everyday citizens might be uneasy around thier rigid military bearing but most didn't respond that nervously.

While she placed this thought into the back of her mind she mostly shrugged it off - there could be lots of reasons for such a reaction and until she knew him better - if she ever did - she wasn't going to place to much emphasis on it. She did however give him a reassuring smile - just to let him know she had indeed noticed.

Her gaze however was drawn to the albino almost as soon as he opened the door to exit the building and while she took in his looks and the umbrella it was hardly that which drew her attention - and the raised hair feeling was confirmed as she caught his nod, returning it with a flashed smile, another empath then...she'd had occasin to run across one or two in her journeys - they were either an asset or a pain to have around depending on thier agenda.

    "Nyte Shaide"

She introduced herself before getting side-tracked by Blake's question, smiling at his comments.

    "I'm empathic"

    she explained.

"means I can sense the emotions and presence of most people nearby, also allows me to zero in on how and where someone is hurting - physically and sometimes mentally and help them out some. Mabel...is fairly easy to read she's so focused on everyone around her that she dosen't bother trying to keep her thoughts to herself, she's a strong presence on my mental radar...and her dog helps, thier social creatures and social animals are easier to pick up and animals don't really give a damn if you know what thier feeling"

She explained more in depth though it was hard to put words to her empathic abilities - indeed her explaination could hardly do it justice and she didn't reveal her abilities to sometimes alter the emotions of others either - that tidbit of information tended to make people uneasy and wary...and Nyte would never do such a thing to an innocent, giving him a smile she continued in a quieter aside to the boy as Hunter revealed that she was indeed heading thier way with her yappy companion.

"...thankfully that also means I can take measures to avoid her in the future, windows and fire escapes are great things"

    "Take care Alex"

she called with a chuckle as the girl practically ran away, she couldn't really blame her.
  4. Nyte nodded to Alex with a slightly furrowed brow, her empathic abilities tended to elict strong protective instincts from time to time - and though she hardly knew Alex they none the less came to the surface when possible danger was spoken of.

    "Well"

    She mused half to herself.

"..perhaps the neighborhood needs some cleaning up then"

it was something to think about - and she'd take a look around later before passing the information up the chain, Nyte herself was more of a healer then a fighter - she could hold her own if she absolutely had to...but it could be difficult at times,no need to air that particular piece of dirty laundry however.

And Alex herself provided a nice change of subject, glanceing at the building Nyte cast her senses out for a few moments before zeroing in on one particular window and giving it a little wave before turning back to the others.

"Mabel wouldn't happen to be an intensly curious elderly women with a canine companion would she?"

Nyte question before jerking her head towards one of the buildings windows where such a figure was clearly visable. Any further thoughts were inturrupted by the apperence of the Vanguard - Nyte nodded to them politely but otherwise remained silent, she'd worked for Vanguard before...but for the most part she let Grifter do the dealing with them, just going along for the missions they threw his way...she agreed with thier cause..but the military type format of thier organization grated on her to some degree.
  5. "That's really..."

Nyte paused for a few moments trying to come up with a suitable response before giving up and laughing lightly to Hunter.

"...Not really current at all, can't say I read many old writings, though I've always wanted to try Paradise Lost"

She continued with a smile before noticing the approach of another whose quick movements and secretive clothing made her slightly wary, though she showed this only with a slight ruffle of her wings..something most if they noticed wouldn't really connect with unease, he seemed to know Alex however and she nodded to him politely before yet another person walked up - this one a younger male - busy place she thought absently to herself as she regarded this new arrival with a smile.

He seemed somewhat unsettled by her - though Nyte was used to such reactions, going through life with wings ment you got used to a few wary looks and stares now and again, to flashed him a reassuring smile.

"Oh no...I just met Alex actually I'm moving in"

She answered his question to Alex with a slight motion towards the buildings door, the motion coincided with the reapperence of the two mover who after stating they were finished proceeded to close up the truck. Nyte didn't register they were leaving however until they started to climb into the cab.

    "Hey!"

she shouted at the one nearest to her.

    "What about your bill?"

"Already taken care of ma'am" The mover stated before tipping his hat slightly and slamming the door closed at the truck started up, pursing her lips Nyte turned back to the group decidely displeased with that new's, though she covered it with a warm smile.
  6. Nyte tipped her head slightly as Hunter answered - he seemed somewhat uncomfortable with the current track of thier conversation - her mind whirled with maddingly imaginitive reasons for this, was he a spy working undercover to destabalize the neighborhood to facilitate a corporate take-over due to the subsequent loss of property value? Or maybe a murderous ex-boyfriend on the run after feeding his girlfriend to the local wildlife? Highly doubtful..most likely he was just a man who didn't wish to tell a stranger his life story...perfectly understandable...but it was still amusing to spin the wild stories in her own mind, it was an old habit - something to amuse yourself with on boring stake-outs.

Pushing such ridiculous thoughts from her mind Nyte decided to change the course of thier discussion - wouldn't do to be pushy and alienate the neighbors right off the bat.

"Most people only move when they have too"

She agreed glancing at Alex for a moment before turning her blue-grey eyes back to Hunter.

'So you two were talkiong about bookstores before I nearly ran you over? I take it you like to read then? what genre...I myself am always a sucker for a well written fantasy or science fiction."
  7. Nyte nodded slightly at Hunter's question.

"No..moving itself is a pain, but going to a new place is never boring - on the contrary I find it rather refreshing. How about yourself? moved around alot? or just as often as necessary?"

Almost as an afterthought she tacked on another statement.

"And please call me Nyte..or Shaide, thats my last name but I'll answer to both"
  8. Nyte's smile didn't falter as Hunter took his time deciding weather or not to shake her hand - it wasn't like his hesitation was glaring or anything but she was aware of it...it wasn't the worse greeting she'd gotten she recalled with a wry smile at an old memory.

Despite the hesitation the man seemed friendly enough - on the surface at least she didn't know him well enough to get a true reading on him though it was clear he had some reservations...and in anycase it wasn't polite to pry into others feelings she reminded herself sternly.

"Oh good! At least I won't be the only new person bumbling about to get my bearings"

she remarked as one of the movers returned and with a somewhat stern look took the box she'd set on the step before dissapearing again while the other went back tothe truck, nyte shrugged slightly and turned her attention to the younger girl..Alex it seemed whose enthusiastic greeting made Nyte chuckle somewhat.

"Good to meet you ALex and while your both kind...apparantly"

and here she cast a glance at the returning mover with his next load of boxes.

    "We're not supposed to help"

"Mr.Storm would be very upset" protested the mover as he slipped past and Nyte rolled her eyes at her two companions before shouting after him.

"Grifter won't really care...he only hired you people so he wouldn't have to help himself!"

Turning her attention back to her companions she explained.

"Grif is an accomplish of mine, he's cranky...and thinks I'm batty for moving again but"

    She shrugs.
  9. having been somewhat pre-occupied with the fussy movers Nyte had nearly failed to notice the two people chatting outside the buildings door's, being startled by people was a strange feeling for an empath who tended to pick up if not peoples feelings then at least thier presences long before she nearly trod upon them..but hey no one could focus on everythign now could they.

    "Sorry! so sorry!"

She apologized to them both as they back up a bit, it seems she'd inturrupted thier conversation, and she hesitated slightly..was it best to just keep on going and let them get back to thier business or stop and introduce herself? Her hesitation made her nearly miss the steps and to cover her near mishap she made as if she'd ment to set the box on the step above. Right well..I guess it was introduce yourself, the movers continued on thier way while Nyte flashed the man and women a bright smile and offered her hand.

"I'm Nyte, sorry for you know..."

She trailed of and motioned towards them

    "Inturrupting you"
  10. Nyte sat on a ledge a few stories up watching the building across the road with some trepidation, it was always somewhat nerve wracking to move into a new area which begged the question why exactly did she do it so often? mentally shrugging to herself Nyte pushed the self asked question from her mind, no point in worrying over it, she moved because she felt the need to and while some therapist might be able to come up with a long winded explaination for this quirk Nyte found it easier to simply accept it as part of herself.

Grifter - her typical partner in well..the opposite in crime thought she was batty, her constant change of address drove him crazy - but since she was both adept as keeping him alive and one of the few willing to put up with his ill temper he shrugged it off with only a few comments here and there.

She'd asked him to help her move...he'd hired a moving company. It wasn't exactly the help she'd wanted but she didn't turn it down. The rest of her supergroup? Well they probably just shook thier heads and called her restless.

Sighing slightly as she spotted the approaching truck - the name of the moving company emblazoned on the side along with some tacky symbol and thier phone number Nyte jumped off the ledge to wing her way down to the sidewalk.

Unlike most so called supers...Nyte didn't bother with a false image or secret identity...lets face it when you have wings sprouting out of your back its rather difficult to hide - you could either walk around with a lump on your back from trying to hide them under clothes (and no matter how flat you tried to tie them there was always a bump) - or purchase some expensive technological device to 'cloak' them from view...which didn't help much if someone brushed up against them. Neither option was worth the hassle to Nyte..and anyways why should she hide who she was? In any case in a city with this many superheroes she was hardly a known figure...her team were not flashy in the spotlight type of heroes. That was fine with Nyte.

Brushing a strand hair from her face Nyte briefly recalled the need to dye it again, though typically blonde she often dyed coloured streaks into it, matching whatever flavor of the month colour she favored wearing. This month is was lilac purple, and the thin purple streaks were begining to fade away.

Her wings like her hair were often considered an acsessory to Nyte, she was able to change thier color on a whim simply by thinking it - well...mostly for some reason the top halves could only fluctuate between grey, black and white...right now they were silver..the lower portion of her wings reflected the colour of her hair the flight feather's radiating a pale lilac, the two colours followed through the rest of her clothing, a long tailed jacket, short skirt and lacy top...Nyte was rarely seen in simple jeans and tee-shirts. She was eccentric..but who wasn't in this city?

Wings fluttering slightly she greeted the movers cheerfully as they unlocked the truck, following them inside to help unload despite thier protests.

"What do you want me to do just sit and watch?"

She exclaimed, rolling her eyes when they said yes..thats exactly what she was supposed to do. Propping a box on her hip she shook her head and started off towards the building.

    "Whatever"
  11. Nyte was quite preoccupied in her singing and newspaper search when Ionic popped into the room - normally she was a tad bit more observant but being in the base had lulled her into relaxation.

So it was when his voice overrode the music she was caught unprepared, sitting up in surprise..which caused a whirlwind of motion...which caused the newspaper she'd been readig to flutter off the edge and scatter throughout the air.

"Maybe I'll give them a ring"

She stated a mental image of her last run in with PPD flitted through her mind almost as quickly as the newspaper seemed to slip through her fingers as she made a few useless attempts to snatch it out of the air before giving up andvletting them float unmolested to the ground turning her attention to Ionic.

"Of course the last time I talked to them I was apologizing for a few patrol cars that sorta got inbetween Grif and a few thugs..."

She trailed off that thought as ionic seemed to be thinking about something as he studied the equipment around them with intensity, seemingly lost in his own thoughts. She didn't have to wait long Ionic seemed to marshal his thoughts fairly quickly. She flashed him a smile of reassurence after he spoke.

    "I'll take care of them.."

She promised as he faded away and though she had no idea if her heard her or not the peaceful feeling left behind seemed to say he had...or perhaps he was just happy enough to have someone else to watch over everyone while he was gone..always a healers dilema. Biting her lip slightly Nyte sighed and lept off the ledge to collect the wayward newspaper..can't be leaving trash all over the superbase now can we?
  12. Nyte found herself lounging in the superbase, sprawled out along the top of a half-wall, ankles crossed, chin propped in the palm of a hand with one wing draped lazily over the side as she perused the classified section of the Paragon news.

Grifter was off-com and while she coud track him down she didn't really feel like it, besides it gave her an unforeseen afternoon off, and those were always welcome. Besides he'd call if he got into trouble..or atl east right before he dropped unconcious...and the superbase allowed for easy transportation to a variety of places, all her bases were covered.

Muted voices carried over from the other side of the base telling her that some of the others were at least present, singing along quietly to herself however Nyte kept to herself. While she enjoyed speaking with the others she was still relatively new to the group and didn't always feel comfortable insinuating herself into thier conversations.

Comfort like that she knew...would come in time and she wasn't to worried about it, continueing to hum along with the music coming from the earbud she had in one ear she turned her attention back to the paper, pulling out a marker to circle ads which sounded promising.
