Meaning? THIS DOES NOT AFFECT YOU ONE LITTLE BIT IF YOU ARE HUNTING LIKE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry I guess my copy of the game was missing the "hunting rules" Here I was thinking I purchased a game where I get to figure out how to make progress...

    [/ QUOTE ]

What rules? What the hell are you talking about? Did you even READ the rest of the post? As long as [censored] #1 is killing monsters, and [censored] #2 is on his team draining xp, he'll get the same amount of xp regardless of whether he's on Live without these changes or on test WITH them. The difference is that now [censored] #2 isn't rewarded for doing nothing. [censored] #1 is not hindered at all.
  2. JuppaCo, you're right. But that's a different issue that the devs need to take up. However, based on Task Forces I have done, you can easily give an eight-member team a good workout by taking on enemies several levels above you. Most task forces don't give you mobs of sixty. They give you the average ten to twenty mob and just up the levels by two or three.

That said, the Rikti Crash Site, Shadow Shard, Striga Isle, and Crey's Folly have pretty large mobs. Simply go there and take on the purples you see.
  3. Thing is, Liberty, many of these people never even gave the game a chance. Newbies, fresh level 1s who JUST got the game, have sent tells to me for powerleveling. Not even wanting to try the game is just sad. The devs give you all this content and all they want to do is blow through most of it. While that's fine that they do, they are going to get bored because they missed the good parts of the game. They are going to suck because they lack experience in the game. They are also going to become level 50 whiners asking for more content.

Why would you even bother with this? If you are going to be in two sperate groups on two seperate sides of PP then you ARE in effect two seperate teams. Seriously why not just hunt in the same group or near each other.

This is an extremely minor hit to gameplay well worth teh price of admission.

[/ QUOTE ]Because spliting up or 'scooby doo'ing as some of us call it is faster xp. We do it all the time mainly in brickstown. It makes no sence for a team of 8 to be beating down the small street mob size. However 2 teams of 4 or 2 teams of 3, hunting on diffrent spots in brickstown can effectively double the amount of xp you get. I have done this sort of thing since week one of game with several teams, PP and in Brickstown are big for this at least with some of the people I team with. heck in PI I was on a team of 4, 2 tanks, me a scrapper and a PB we split up and each hunted in a diffrent part of the map, it makes for fast xp that adds up over time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

All you're doing is powerleveling. You're saying right out that you split up to gain experience faster by taking advantage of the team bonus while killing lots of mobs. If you want to street hunt, bring only a team of four, not eight. But what you're saying is that you powerlevel a bit each and every day. This is the kind of thing that the devs are trying to stop. It's nice to gain lots of experience fast, but that IS powerleveling. Guess what? These changes were directed AT powerleveling.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wrong, powerlevelling is gaining exp at no risk to yourself. Having someone else do all the work while your character benefits, thats powerlevelling.

The Scooby Doo tactic is simply maximizing your teams exp gain / time. Its hardly a huge increase in levelling time, it simply gives everyone a good fight instead of 8 people going after one group and everyone maybe getting a shot in while the defenders and controllers who perfer debuffing and buffing or healing have nothing to do b/c no one is getting hurt.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are you daft too? You just said that powerleveling is getting experience at no risk to yourself. How are you at risk from the mobs that the OTHER half of the team is killing? If you were in two separate teams getting two separate bonuses, you are at risk from every single villain you attack and get xp from. If you are in ONE team SPLITTING the effort, you are only at risk from HALF the villains. You are STILL getting a free ride from the other half of the team.

Conceptually nothing. These changes have no effect on your personal xp gain. A lagger left behind would drain your experience exactly as much as it does currently on live. Sure, the total team xp is lower, but who cares if the guy who decided shopping was more important doesn't get any xp? You're still getting the same xp as you do on Live. A person sitting in a team not doing anything is ALWAYS a drain on team xp, regardless of whether or not they themselves get any xp by it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, you've got a group of four friends and you're all hungry. You decide to buy a large pizza for everyone, and everybody can have two slices.

But oops, one of your friends is late and hasn't arrived yet. Instead of letting anyone have an extra slice, though, the pizza delivery guy just throws out the extra two slices before he lets you have the pizza.

The next night, you're the one who's late, and you pick up the pizza on your way there. You pay for a large, but this time they only give you two slices and throw the rest in the dumpster.

And each time, when you find out about this policy and ask if you could buy a smaller pizza so nothing's wasted, they tell you that's against the rules unless you swear nobody else is going to show up. If you're going home to eat alone, they'll sell you a small, but if you've got three people there it's a large or nothing.

You're getting two slices each time, but is this pizza place giving you a fair deal?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are you completely daft? This is EXACTLY how it currently works on Live. Instead of throwing away the extra experience, they do give it to the person lagging behind, but it's not like YOU get it, even on Live. A person lagging behind is ALWAYS a drain on team experience. They are not helping AT ALL with the battle, but are still stealing a chunk of your experience.

THESE CHANGES DO NOT TOUCH THAT FACT AT ALL!!!

There IS an option if you want a smaller pie. GET A SMALLER TEAM! But this is not discouraging teaming as so many have said because THE EXACT SAME THING happens on Live. People who are in your team will always diminish your experience. Guess what? That's exactly what's happening even now. The difference? These changes basically say to the lagger, if you're going to be a drain on team xp, you don't get any xp for doing it. The current situation on Live gives YOU the same xp, but also REWARDS the laggers with free xp for being slow.

Meaning? THIS DOES NOT AFFECT YOU ONE LITTLE BIT IF YOU ARE HUNTING LIKE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE!
  7. Well, if you're flying to the store, not helping the team out directly, and getting "free xp", then yeah you're powerleveling... sort of... and shouldn't get any xp trickled down to you. We all shop, so it all works out. You just take a little longer doing so.
  8. I actually wasn't directing that at you, I just chose you to reply to because I'm lazy.
  9. Well then people are idiots that need to have their perceptions realigned. A nerf to scrappers has no effect on blasters so it shouldn't make the blasters worse in game. It has no direct effect on them so it's not hindering their own performance, and any perception of something otherwise is just... silly.

It's going to be alot of:
    /invite BlueComet
waits for BlueComet to arrive, waiting, waiting, waiting
BlueComet is 1/2 way there, but needs to sell real quick or level....
    /kick BlueComet
/team he was taking too long, forget him.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um, no. If he's taking too long, he just doesn't get any xp. You still get the same experience you would ALWAYS get with three people. He would just get zero. You're wasting experience still, but it's HIS problem, not yours. If he's not helping the team, sure, kick him. But you're getting the SAME experience as you do CURRENTLY on Live. He's in the team, he's sucking a 1/3 of the experience. The only difference is that with these changes, he wouldn't get any of the xp. YOU STILL DO!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

You'd be AMAZED by how impatient people can be. 5 min in CoH can seem like a lifetime. (ever need that nuke, but wasted it on a bad click and now have to wait?). The number of, "I kicked him cause he's too slow" WILL be seen ALOT. I firmly believe that this will become common.

Besides, this isn't the main PL method anyway, herding is how most of it occures (to my knowledge), and all you have to do is herd to the group (using a high-low sk method). Hell, I've done the fire tank herds to the sk'd lowbie who's mentor is 5 levels below for max sk xp thing, just to help someone get to the travel power after 12 levels of sprint. Trust me, this won't help that, but WILL help teaming go bye bye.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But are you even paying attention????? This change HAS NO EFFECT on teaming experience for you, only on the guys who fall behind because they are SLOW! If you currently don't kick people who are slow, you are getting LESS XP from them being on your team. The SAME XP as if you didn't kick them with these changes. Meaning your whole argument is moot, it's pointless to bring up something that affects us even NOW on Live. Teaming will NOT go bye bye, since it still happens on Live.
  11. Contacts may not be able to be seen from 300 feet, but I HAVE CONFIRMED that I can tab-target enemies from up to 650 feet away. I was hunting in Peregrine at the time, Hovering up high and scanning the city with tab, targeting enemies OVER SIX HUNDRED FEET AWAY! I was also able to VISUALLY see the villains from 600 feet, just a little short of my vision range. Any further than about 650 feet and I lost target, but I didn't just move backwards after targeting. No, I TARGETED from 600 feet.

So you're wrong when it comes to mobs, right when it comes to contacts.

So this has no effect on your experience gain, only on the people who fall behind.
  13. Good. Because all of us mission goers won't be affected by it. Ciao.

  15. Um, Pollution, Dwimble made a post TWO POSTS ABOVE YOURS that you need to check out. It details how if the devs did that, it would allow for powerleveling to be EASIER and IMPROVED with this system.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Ah Dwimble why are you using the tram rather then a hospital or tram way point?

You can barely tab target something 300 feet away. Only way you can snipe something is to put in a bunch of hami range and boost range it. Already on live this often doesn't register in the combat log. And even then when you snipe something in FF from the entrance to the nearest 5th near the square if they run away from a snipe such as moonbeam you don't get credit for the defeat since they run out of visual range.

Most games already have a visual range reward system to everyone in a team. If you are in a team and out of visual range of the person doing the defeating you don't get credit.

In beta it was suggested that this be put in place.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think you have feet and yards confused. With five HOs, I get over 600 ft with my snipe. And that's just inside Vision Range. Vision Range is a little bit above 200 yds. About 650-700 feet. Not 300.
  17. Listen. You know the range of your own heals by heart. As long as you're in range of being able to heal, you're in range of getting xp. Just stay near the team like a good healer.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Remember, you have to do DAMAGE to get XP, not just be in range

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Wrong
    Wrong
    Wrong
    WRONG

Read the posts again! You do NOT have to do damage to get XP, you just have to be IN RANGE. Considering your heals have a SHORTER range than this, you will ALWAYS be in range of your teammates. Just don't split up.
  19. In other words, powerlevelers complain about getting bored with the game. Well, the devs are helping them out by preventing them from powerleveling. Just as a child will not admit their parents know what's best for them, the devs are encouraging people to go through ALL of the game's content before finishing it and getting bored with it. At least that way, there's always a goal unfinished, a sight yet to see.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
If the XP changes are to stop PL'rs then here is a suggestion. The only way to stop PL'rs is to put restrections on zones like Brickstown and PI. That is the only way PL'ing will stop just because Bricks has big mobs and PI is where the wolf mission is. PL'rs will find ways to PL no matter what you do. I myself do not care if people get PL'd like someone said they went threw the game did every mission, story arc, tf, etc etc etc and they just wanna play a diffrent build. To some people its all about bragging rights i.e. I got 5 lvl 50's. Other people and I know you know sell accounts or PL on e bay. PL'rs will alway's PL no matter what. They will always find a way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, let me give a developer-type reason for stopping Powerleveling.

If it takes you two weeks to get to 50, and then you get bored of the game, there goes your subscription.

As long as it takes you a good three months to get bored of the game, you'll have to go through all the content, enjoying every step of the way, while paying the whole time.

This isn't to say the devs are money-grubbers, not like Blizzard and SOE, who purposely add tons and tons of timesinks to their games. This is just to prevent all that content from going to waste and encouraging longer play. It also keeps people off the devs' backs with the lack of END GAME content. If you take longer to REACH the end game, you delay boredom for a longer time.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Hey Statesman... give me one "good" reason to why you are doing this... really all i want is a good reason... shouldn't be that hard to come up with... really... but whatever... I as like many others if this "xp range" is put into action on live server will be cancelling my account and going back to boring EQ or WoW i mean i would rather be in a laggy game like WoW and have fun... then be on this game with the devs making up crackpot idea's just to annoy the players of this game and btw shouldn't we get to vote on the devs changing anything on this game I mean really... we do pay for this so we should have a right to vote on which way "you" decide to ruin this game...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    /sarcasm on

Right... Statesman "ruins the game" with a change, suddenly you want to go to two games that have developers that have been ruining their games since day one. You make a very convincing argument.

    /sarcasm off
  22. They've already been trying to nerf wolf-type powerleveling in missions. Notice that wolves now have ranged attacks AND now can knockback. This is detrimental to fire tankers using Burn. Unless they take Acrobatics. Then it's meh.
  23. You do, sort of. As long as the KILLER is within 200 ft of the enemy he defeated, it counts as a kill for badges. You can be half way across the zone, just as long as the one who actually DEFEATED the enemy, basically any teammate needs to be within 200 ft of the enemy.
  24. Well, that's good you're aware. But just because I can't get full XP from monsters I've damaged doesn't mean the way XP is divided should be changed. It really was a broken system before, getting XP from team members killing things halfway across a map. In missions, we can fudge the details. Let's us pretend that the team is doing a group effort the WHOLE TIME towards the completion of the mission. Eh.

Plus, Elevators are probably the more prominent reason for this.
  25. Yes, I'm aware of that. I read his post. Still hampers team splitting in Zones, which is probably a limitation they have anyway as I mentioned later.
