Quote:You said a mouthful there. Personally I can do without a national English holiday named after a Maltese Knight. :P But when it comes down to it the reason we cant celebrate "Englishness" in England because we might offend immigrants then the whole country has turned into a mess. Mind what would we do to celebrate that day? Usually as has been pointed out its another booze day. Be nice if it was something a little more unique. We would of celebrated our own more if it was deemed politically correct.
And on the subject of politcal correctness.
Yeah Ill back you up as well buddy. That is a total act of hypocrisy of what this thread is about. I kind of half expected something like this where the company says one thing for PR sake but doesnt back it. -
Quote:Hmm first of all Britain is a group of small countries each with their own identities and culture. Rivalries are quite prolific. Ask A Scot if he enjoyed the recent Engalnd football game and is he pleased they won you may well find out.I'm starting to get an idea of why you Brits are the way you are
But in seriousness its a broad brush to paint calling us all Brits the way alot of transatlantics do. Yeah its lots easier than saying English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish, and usuallly no harm is meant. But sometimes I get this energy from statemtents using it as being dismissive and forgetful of the divrity we have here.
And secondly most of us dont go to these public schools. We go to state run schools which while not havong the odd weird contests our toffs go to. Unfortunately these same toffs end up getting cushy jos in business and government. So in effect we are run by people who are absoloutely nothing like the majority of the population. So if by saying we are the way we are you mena disillusioned by politics and business then yes you may be right. These people tend to think they have a place above us and have special priveledges by birthright and dont like it when we tell them otherwise. The recent expenses scandal is yet another classic example of this.
Other wise I think you just made a generalised sterotypical comment that is as ill fitting and inacurate as having a crusty old black guy in movies picking cotton and saying "Lordy, lordy, lordy... boss" while performing menial tasks for his white master. That mostly went out thankfully but its still for some reason seen as ok or seen as a favour to us here in the UK to throw in some Sterotype of an uppercrust snob or a cockney. I recently had this conversation on another forum I use oddly enough. In my county alone there are numoerous accents and one guy from Yorkshire will sound very different to myself and Coin over here in East Yorskshire... yet its hard to beleive because the distance is relatively short.
Now I know I came across as a little serious there and to be honest I know usually no harm is meant as I said. But it does seem this is the thread to bring these things up in especially after GGs comment. Again I know you meant no harm GG so no worries but I saw the oppertunity for a little educational notice. -

Quote:Id like to think you could get that with any SG or at least find a gaming group that can offer this. Most of the groups I have been in are this way.LOL my sg which is very LGBT and hetero friendly is like a family. There is no pick ups or is it in anyway used as such. Of course there are perverts out there but to say that just because people would like to have a sg that has more personal connections with their own struggles is looking for something adult is just fire to the burning stack. I would hope that my sg offers a home for those who want to make good friends and have someone always have their back if the need a friend. Alot of people say that they dont understand why someone would want to have a sg that is openly gay but why not? If you feel at home with people in the sg in which you know are very tolerant and dont stand for bigotry or hate and can just have fun why not. I am coalied with alot of sgs that have similar no hate policies and we are firm on what happens if you do. I just like knowing that if one of my sg mates has a slur used against them they have all of our sg to have their back. And thank you for responding GG.

Quote:Honestly I have never heard that term fagging in reference to a social order in British Society at all. Has ny other of my fellown countrymen and women here?As well as the f** / cigarette confusion, there is also the previously mentioned f*ggot/bundle of sticks as well as f*ggot/kind of spicy pork meatball and my personal favourite, fagging: a form of social order in British public schools (private schools to you septics out there), which is where we get the slightly archaic "fagged out".

Was asking for an invite to my villan group the other night when the leader said he couldnt get my characters name to work. This is basically because the character name I had on my old EU account was taken so I added puncutation. Makes sense? So I told him to add a "full stop" after the name. Caused about 5 miuntes of confusion until it struck me he wasnt familar with that term. I know across the Atlantic have a different name for a full stop which is "period" but it hadnt occured to me our name was totally unfamilar.
I clarified fairly quickly after 2 eniquires when the penny dropped but it did serve as a reminder. And a little education for those on the American continent. What you generally call a period we call a full stop. -
Ah you still playing eh? Nice to see you. Hope alls well. Havent seen you about in any of the other SG forums so I did wonder if you still played.
Had a few temptations to come back but decided not to bother until now. Even then was a spare of the moment decision to join some of my Watchfire friends on the NA servers. So I still cant play with you guys ingame even though Im back ... albeit very breifly at that. -
Quote:Interesting point GG. But thing is it was a rhetorical question. Seems unlikely that I will reacitvate that account anyway unless my immediate plans go awry. If all does happen as I hope then I wouldnt expect this to be a very long stay either.Well, the mdoas have said they're working on ways to resolve name clashes - and I think cases of one player owning both the names would be some of the first ones they fix - they'd just change one of your account names for you, and then remove the NA/EU from the one you wanted to keep.
For clashes between 2 people, they might go by activity - like if Captain Heroman NA registered in 2006, but hasn't ever posted, and doesn't even have an active game account right now, but Captain Heroman EU still posts from time to time on the forums, and has an active game account, then he'd get to keep the Captain Heroman name, and the inactive player would get a placeholder name for if/when they came back. -

Yes well as you say. Could be a squirrel could be mouse who knows?
There was this thread in the Age of Conan forums where you were asked to type your name or some info with your chin. Managed to migrate over to The Secret World forums too. -
Quote:Pretty much what I was thinking and really is the some and total of anything I have to say on it. Hence I just quoted this.People don't go about advertising heterosexual pride through cities flashing their wares and so on and so I don't get it with homosexuals who do that.
I've got friends who are L, G and B in RL and they're all straight acting so that you wouldn't know unless ya ask them.
The server is cross continental, people of all ages could play at all hours and so as long as things are decent everything is fine.
Why anyone needs to make a social, sexual statement in a computer game though is beyond me. Is the game a pulling tool? Do you find that straight players run away? -
Quote:How would you know it was a squirrel? The folks over at the US boards would mostly only point out spelling/grammar errors in four instances:
1) In posts that looked like they were typed by hitting the keyboard with a dead squirrel.
2) In the thread title.
3) In a post that correcting someone else's grammar or spelling.
4) See #1. -
Yep tis I.
Teamed with you with a few alts too. My old Empath Jack Kerrigan, and my old troller I never finished Beguile. In fact was on my troller you helped me finish Hollows and I meant to get you in an the Cavern of Transcendance but you wernt online when we did it. (I have a good memory, sometimes a blessing, sometimes a curse). -

Quote:Hehe yeah in more ways than one. Ever been to an MMOs prelaunch forums in last few years? I think I have read "WoW" more times than any other word in the English language.Well, I think we can all agree that "WoW" is an unpleasant word by any normal standards.
Blizzard have a lot to answer for. -
Wouldnt do you any good. I had to add a number to the end of my US account as you can see. What gets me is the way its seems to have been assumed US first then EU second. I mean shouldnt it go to whoever has the ealriest date? Or has it? Its hard to tell.

Quote:When I saw the server merge thing this is exactly what I thought of. The contentious language filter both in game and forums.Hi TheOcho!
I think a good place to start would be with the word filter. We have many many words in use over here that are perfectly harmless, yet are filtered due to an alternate meaning in the US. It's often been a bone of contention in the past as we're unable to use our native tongue in the way we're accostomed.
Perhaps these words could be removed from the filter, with the proviso that anyone using them in an insulting manner be banned from the forums?
One example would be a 3 letter word beggining with N that we use in context like "I'm just going to n** to the store", meaning I'm going to the store very quickly and will be back soon; whereas in the US it's seen as a derogatory term for people of asian descent
Another would be the 3 letter word beginning with F that we use for a cigarette and you use for homosexual.
Or the 5 letter word beginning with F that you use for someone's bottom, and we use for a womans... aaah... For a womans... Ummm... you get what I mean, I think? -
Well nice to see some familar names around here from my departure getting on for 3 years ago now. Hope all has gone well. This is actually a new account hence the "_1977" suffix on the end of it. But for those of you who remember the name Lodestar from all those years ago this is me.
How are you all?
Edit: Just realised wonder if my old account has an "_EU" suffix after it? Ah well never know so it doesnt matter. -
Well hello guys. Not sure if any of you remember Lodestar from around 3 years ago as Im sure some of my old friends have been and gone in that time. But for those of you who still play from that time and still remember me a big hello. Love to hear how you are all doing.
As for me well even though I decided I would not return to the game I did just that as recently as two weeks ago. Although you will not be seeing me in game as I opened up a brand new US account and play on the Virtue shard. Hence the suffix of "_1977" after my handle. Reason being simply to get to know some of my friends in Watchfire for just a short while before Champions Online comes out soon. So likely this will be s short stint.
