  1. I agree; there is no torture cruel enough to repay these people.

My worst problems are the in-game tells. I play very late at night /early a.m. Central. Some nights, I'll get seven or eight of these things. I /ignore_spammer and report each and every time, as annoying as it is.

The problem is, though, I have to stop the team so I can make the report (thus inconveniencing several others) and it doesn't seem to help. The only thing that seems to work is /hide, and I don't want to be forced to /hide just because some Chinese gold farmer is being a snert.

My biggest concern is one which others have voiced, which is, people are getting so sick of having to stop playing to report it that they're ceasing to report. As such, I'm afraid it'll seem as if the spamming's going down. Let me tell you that it's not.

I don't want to see the in-game e-mail removed, though. It can be a very useful tool for a supergroup, if nothing else. The spam in-box sounds like a great idea, as does the add to the profanity filter that won't allow certain website addresses to pass. After all, the one thing they -can't- afford to change, for marketing purposes, is the name of their websites.

    Awesome!

I am always so blown away by how creative people are here.

The default setting needs to be on.

90% of the players DO NOT read the forums and thus have no idea what's going on here. Many of that 90% don't bother to read the MotD either.

And that's why it needs to be OFF.

I, for one, do not intend to participate, at least not at the outset. I don't see the point of this. Certainly it makes no sense at all from an RP perspective.

I don't like having my friends lists available, either. With all respect, I still don't see how it would keep my friends from getting spammed. I *really* don't want to expose that number of people to that kind of harassment. I mean, they are *friends*, after all, and some are really getting annoyed with the spam. I'd like to keep them playing.

I also don't see why it's anyone's business how my characters are slotted or what powers I've taken, or even how that would help anyone. You can't get a sense of how well someone plays simply based on the powers they've taken. I've read of some powers which people think completely stink -- and yet I have seen others use them very effectively and very well. It's all about the types of situations in which one plays a particular character.

Give people the information and let them choose to participate. If it's really great and it catches on, people will choose to do so. Who knows, if it proves to be secure enough and there's a decent reason to use it, maybe I will, too. I'm not ruling out the possibility this could be ubercool.

But please, allow people to make the choice to participate rather than drafting them and forcing them to do so.
  4. I'm completely anti-putting any PvP in this one. I can't see my heroes being stupid enough to work with villains if there's a guaranteed certainty they're going to get knifed in the back, and vice versa. I want to fight the Rikti, thanks.

Besides which, it would make for a lot more tension and fun RPwise if they *couldn't* fight. Just like the last few superhero movies that have come out...too many villains dilute the soup to 'eeeh' levels.

I'm curious as to whether this will be *required* co-oping or optional co-op'ing. Optional would be wonderful. Required, no. The winter event was SO much nicer than both V'tine events for that very reason. If there were heroes around, you could run it, if there were villains, vice versa, but nobody had to beg and plead for a hero or a villain in order to do it.

  5. Celestial_Fury, no need to miss Q4orce (which I love as well).

Aaron Williams has the occasional Q4orce strip posted on his site at http://www.nodwick.com (Well, you'll get 'henched' to his real site if you enter that, anyway.)

When he posts them, he posts them under the Nodwick comics. His Full Frontal Nerdity and PS 238 are hoots, too.

Re: the comic line ending -- not an issue to me. I liked the first series, with War Witch, Apex and co., and haven't cared for the comics since that cast and story were dropped.

  6. One more note, first re: the two self-raises for scrapper and tanker.

True, you're not 'supposed' to die - but it happens from time to time. Sometimes being able to come back even with just partial health can make a difference between a team rally and a team wipe - and half health is certainly preferable to a general awaken.

Second, being able to raise on the spot (even with only half health) can be preferable by far than having to wait for a raise or having to go to base or hospital. Hamidon raids and missions in the Shadow Shard definitely come to mind, since I know people who have respec'ed to take those powers just so they *could* raise on their own out there.

Last but not least, Hurl for Super Strength is *anything* but useless. It can be used for a short-range pull (thus saving the squishier ATs from a barrage of damage or damage of types for which they have no resistance) and it can also be used to pull aggro away from a teammate without having to move over and bring the aggro already on you over to them.

The effort is definitely well-meant, but I'd agree with Dragon-King that this really probably shouldn't be with the guides. A situational assessment of each power would, however, be useful to those not yet in the know.

  7. I'm actually glad Cryptic *is* apparently taking this on a case by case basis and heading the potential griefer rules lawyer crowd off at the pass.

While I'm sure those of us on this thread just want to make sure we don't step over any lines, the fact is, the true griefer crowd is going to try to press for hard and fast do's and don'ts so they can avoid the responsibility of policing themselves. (We've all met them - they're the "if it was wrong, we couldn't do it/it would be specifically listed/you'd be able to defend against it" crowd.)

While I'm glad to know the official general sense of what griefing is considered to be -- and the definitions were great -- the fact is, people KNOW when they intend to harass someone and when they're deliberately being a jerk, versus playing competitively and with some common sense and sportsmanship.

Basically, I'd think it would be as simple as the philosophy of not doing anything to others that you know would spoil your game if it was done to you. When in doubt, err on the side of good sportsmanship - whether you're playing a villain or a hero. Be accountable for your actions, and act accordingly. If you make a mistake, apologize. If you have a hostile in-character encounter, *don't* take it out of character. Give the other person a chance to catch their breath and play, and if they indicate they've had enough...drop it.

IMO, if you're policing yourself and you don't want to grief, you've got nothing to worry about.
