Kokuin
Appearance: Kokuin stands at about the average height of a male adult. His skin is cold pale and his eyes are a almost radiantly glowing blue.He has a star shaped scar over his left eye. His hair is ling and icy blue with two horn like protrusions on each side. He wears a blue uniform with the insignia for Neptune above thr right pocket, underneath the jacket he wears a skin suit to help maintain his bodies low temperatures. His pants are dark blue and open at the end to give walking room for his blue boots.
Personality: Kokuin was left in a spacial coma for the first seven years of his life, as a result, he has yet to reach the maturity of his actual age of seventeen and has the carefree spirit of a ten year old. Kokuin's attitude is light hearted and he can get joy out of almost anything. This does however create the problem of losing focus on the subject matter when he is so easily amused. However, Kokuin's sense of battle is not affected by his maturity, as he knows what is needed to be done, this shows his true intelligence and is where he truly shines. Although how he enters spontaneous battles (often coming up from behind the enemy and their mob with a large shout of "Goooooo!") isn't always enjoyed by more serious focused comrades. Kokuin can however, be angered when someone is endangered as he feels the soul need to protect all the inhabitants of Earth from harm. He becomes almost in a trance with his sight bent only on the destruction of his opponent and the safety of who he yearns to protect.The way Kokuin behaves tends to make him unpopular with many of the older veteran heroes who have seen the job of being a hero at it's worst and think of his cheery disposition as almost insulting, although to those who are more light hearted have seen Kokuin as an inspiration that youth and innocence can be kept in the heart even after the countless horrors of this world are witnessed.
Kokuin uses his innate psychic abilities in a combination with his magically composed ability to control ice to maneuver the very temperature around his body into any form he might require by using water or even the condensation in the air to make solid forms of ice or lower temperatures. He constantly keeps his body at 32 degrees Fahrenheit because his body has adjusted to well to the frozen atmosphere of space, this change means that his body does not need to pump blood at full circulation more then once per hour which also means his heart only beats once per hour. This low heart beat cause Kokuin to fear sleeping in public areas, for fear he will (again) wake up in a morgue, or on particularly bad days, in the hands of Vahzilok.
History: On a planet vast light years away from the Milkyway galaxy, where only shreds of Ultraviolet radiation and light can reach, Kokuin was born. His people make peace with greater beings upon the planet's surface in order to be taught the control of their bodies natural needs and in doing such a task, overcoming the conditions they live under each day. Kokuin was born to parents whom were commanded by the overseers to dispose of Kokuin at the time of birth, his parents, unknowing of why they were given such a grave task, pleaded that they at least release their child to the great heavens above, their wish was granted. Kokuin was sent in a pod that induced him into a coma and was sent the galaxy, aimed at an incoming meteor storm that would surely impact upon his vessel, killing him almost instantaneously.
However, it is thought that a space entity of great force shifted Kokuin's course, whether the entity existed in space, or was Kokuin himself, is still unknown. Kokuin drifted through space for the Earth equivalent of seven years before making contact upon Earth's surface.Kokuin landed in the ocean line off the coast of Japan. The exact location was never disclosed. When his seemingly lifeless body washed upon the shore, he was found by three siblings vacation at the beach that day. Their parents readied to file a dead child report, of what looked like a drowning, until Kokuin awoke for the first time in seven years. His mind blank and empty of any behavior or teachings, Kokuin acted as he was left as, a newborn child. After much discussion and a city wide search for his parents, the family took it upon themselves to raise the child, they named him Kokuin because of the carved seal among the fabricated clothes he was wearing, and granted him their surname of Mayuzumi.
The family lived in a rather large traditional style Japanese cottage on the edge of Osaka. they went by the names of 42 year old father,Mareo.Mareo wore glasses and his business clothes at almost all times during the day, and was a high ranking Salary man, he was kind hearted although his work often took up time with his family. 40 year old wife,Kaiyo. Who worked as a researcher at a local medical facility. She was a sweet woman who looked in her mid 20's, rather then her 40's. She wore her hair in a ponytail and was, like her husband, always in her lab coat uniform. Then there were the children. 15 year old Yukio, the oldest of the three, was a strong willed baseball star to be. He enjoyed the game so much he wore a cap almost every day, he even kept it with him during the school days, placing it on his desk during tests for good luck. He wasn't always the kindest person in the family, but he never meant any real harm. 12 year old brother, Yoshi, was the stunning fit of the "intellectual." He concentrated on his work and was always buried deep within his own large book collection or even looking through scientific theorems from know and again. He did however, maintain a rather large circle of friends, mainly because of his willingness to tutor those willing to learn. Last there was 7 year old sister,Kuniko. She was the most lighthearted of all three children, and being that she was the same age as Kokuin, she was his main form of social dependence during his younger years. Because of her kind untouched heart, it is thought that she influenced his cheery disposition that he currently maintains to this day and possibly even his call of screaming "Gooooo!" which was an activity they enjoyed together. The family has taken and accepted Kokuin fully as one of their own.
The family noticed his strange traits almost immediately after their return home. Most particularly the horn like protrusions that stuck out of each side of his head. They soon noticed his ability to form and manipulate heat and energy into ice and frost.Being that Kaiyo worked at a medical facility, she began looking into his strange symptoms, it was soon after that she discovered he had a sort of psychic energy emitting from not only his protrusions, but from all of his body. Also noticeable was his new born mindset, it seemed as though he had never learned anythingm but from the signs of his bodies growth, he was definitely seven years of age. The Mayuzumi family, being a particularly gifted family of individuals, and with Kokuin's mind grown to hold the capacity of a seven year old, were able to teach Kokuin all the necessities of life. Only three months after his discovery, Kokuin was seemed fit to attend school with all the other children. Kokuin had to wear either specially fit student caps, headbands, or even large ribbons at times to hide his horns. He was also asked not to bend ice in any conspicuous manner, although this was a futile effort since Kokuin kept his body cold at almost all times. Kokuin began as a sort of misfit in his school, many students said they "felt a scary cold air" around him, which was from him naturally manipulating the temperature. However Kokuin attended the same classes as Kuniko, and soon gained the trust of her friends. Kokuin's company soon became enjoyed by a large portion of his homeroom class and even the friends of his older brother, whom he enjoyed doing whatever activity they were up to. Yukio often challenged Kokuin to races (which was a futile effort on Kokuin's part, seeing as how he always lost), while Yoshi explained his constantly growing library of books that loomed over Kokuin's head like a behemoth of knowledge.This was how most of Kokuin's early childhood was, happy and fulfilling.
By age 12, Kokuin began truly utilizing his powers. He was able to manipulate water and even the condensation in the air to any form of ice he pleased. He also began having dreams of gazing up at the night sky and reaching out to an unseen location. One night during a family dinner Kokuin explained the dreams as the topic came up in conversation. After hearing the specifics of the dreams, Mareo told Kokuin the truth of how they had discovered him washed ashore on a beach dressed in odd clothing with a strange seal enclosed upon them. Kokuin was almost unmoved by the news of his discovery, but was more rather moved that the Mayuzumi family had shown such kindness to him. During his teenage years, Kokuin became relatively well liked through out his homeroom classmates, they had grown used to his unique traits and even envied his unique gifts. He began practicing forming ice sculptures for special occasions and events for the class. Although Kokuin went through puberty, he never truely had a girlfriend, although he was crushed on by several girls and did lean towards enjoying the company of a few different females. By age 15, Kokuin began desiring to know more about his roots, but knowing the story of how he was discovered finally started to reflect upon him. Kokuin began trying to prosuce any theories about where he originated from. With the help of Yoshi (who had become a renowned Physiologist working in a private Tokyo research facility) and Kuniko (Yukio had gone off to America to pursue his dream of becoming a star major league baseball player), they researched every known trait of every region of the known Earth. When Kokuin turned 16, he got what he considers one of his greatest presents of all time (not that the purple ribbon that Kuniko gave him to hide his horns when he turned 8 wasn't nice either). Yoshi had called in a favor from an old colleague who know worked at NASA, and was able to obtain and send Kokuin a single satellite image showing a pod looking object hurling towards Earth, there was an enhanced rendering of the picture included in it's packaging that provided a close up on the object, revealing the same symbol that were on Kokuin's clothes when he was discovered! There was no doubt in Kokuin's, nor the rest of his adoptive families' minds. Kokuin was not of this planet.
Kokuin spent a large portion of his 16th year of age trying to find any discovery that could lead him to learn anything about himself or his "kind." But what he knew from the start proved true, the was no data of any space entity or species that had ever made contact with the Earth. 7 months after his 16th birthday, his hopes were born anew as Yukio and Yoshi had come to visit. Yoshi had information on one species that had come to Earth:The Rikti. The Rikti was a race of hostile warriors that invaded and attacked Earth around the time of World War Two. However almost no files exist about the invasion around the facilities and data bases available to Yoshi. Yukio, however, learned of a place that might hold some information on the Rikti and possibly any galactic species the Rikti may have encountered. He had played a game against their baseball team a few months prior. It was a place called Paragon city.
After contemplating for month about his plans, learning from Yukio that the only way to gain access to the Rikti files would be to register as a hero, he made his decision. On his 17th birthday he was sure or what he had to do. He prepared for his journey to Paragon city. Before leaving the place he called home and the people he knew as family, he was presented with gifts from each of the family. From Kayio and Mareo, who he knew as mother and father, a specially made belt with a number of different pockets for holding supplies. From Yukio, a pair of boots that were designed for optimal speed. From Yoshi, a special skin suit designed to help him maintain his special body temperature and to absorb pain. and last from Kuniko, was a hand sown blue jacket with the planetary symbol for Neptune (his well known favorite planet of the Milky way Galaxy) sown over the pocket and a pair of blue open legged pants to match. Kokuin gave his goodbyes to all his friend and family as he got on a plane with only one destination: Paragon City.
Kokuin had arrived at Paragon City ready to learn of what he could from the Rikti and to return home. In the back of his mind he knew it wouldn't be that easy. The sight of all the heroes in the skies of Atlas Park overwhelmed Kokuin as he stepped into the building behind a beautiful statue dedicated to a hero known as "Atlas." Kokuin walked in a merrily fashion humming a cheery tune his sister used to sing all the time as he walked up to the desk to register. There the registration lady took down all his information and began to inform him about the dangers of the city and the need to be wary. He was then told to go talk to Nrs.Liberty about his duties as a hero. Mrs.Liberty stood on a platform in front of the Atlas statue, the way the sun reflected off of the ground and her costume made it look as though she was glowing with honor and justice. Kokuin introduced himself, and was met with an introduction back, although she was kinder then the registration desk lady, she didn't beat around the bush in telling Kokuin his duties and telling him the importance of controlling and utilizing his powers for the greater good. kokuin sat and thought about all he had learned that day on a warm bench that his touch turned cool, siting near Atlas Plaza, it all seemed so much, but he was almost sure he could handle it...almost.
A week after moving in to his apartment in Paragon, he had begun to learn to live as a hero. His tasks were mundane, mostly composed of delivering packages or messages from researchers and scientists to other researchers and scientists in the city. But on his 7th day in Paragon, after delivering a package to a researcher, Kokuin was targeted and attacked by an industrial conglomerate known as Crey Industries, Kokuin had never heard the name before in his life, but as he walked along the streets he was surrounded by several agents as one pulled a syringe out and injected it within his neck into his blood stream, he fell to the ground almost immediately, and fell unconscious soon after. when he awoke, he found himself bound to a table in a metallic grey room, looking eye to eye with a masked surgeon, on the table next to him, he could see a number of surgical tools and devices. no sooner had the surgeon noticed he had awoken then the surgeon was called over by what looked like an agent, she was a female dressed in a black suit with dark sunglasses and an earpiece transmitter in her right earm she also carried a 9mm standard pistol.They discussed different attributes about Kokuin as if they'd known everything about him, they had also mentioned targeting him for a time and him being "invaluable to the companies progress." Kokuin closed his eyes and concentrated hard on the temperature around him and was able to construct a knife mode entirely out of ice, no sooner had he broken though his restraints and planned a counter attack then alarms began to ring throughout the facility. As Kokuin looked outside to see what was causing such a massive panic he was targeted by a strange person in what looked like a large suit of armor, he prepared to shoot jolts of electricity when a blast rung out and he fell to the ground, dead. Behind him stood a veteran hero who looked like a cross between a man and a wolf. Kokuin looked at him and asked his name. He went by the alias War Wolf X.
The two of them quickly escaped from the facility, kokuin asked why he had come, and War Wolf X only replied in the annoyed voice "I didn't come to rescue you, I came for this disk I have right here. you were just a bonus on my job. Nut it'd good to see you alright. Just don't get kidnapped again, because the chances of your a$# being saved like that again are slim, kid...very slim." War Wolf X left promptly with a giant leap onto a building.
Kokuin then, for the first time, looked around him. He came to solve the mystery of his origin, but along the way he had gained a larger duty. He realized that he was here to help all those who need it. Although the paperwork had been filled out a week before, it was now official. Kokuin had become a hero of Paragon City!
