    Aaaaaaaahhh!!

    I haven't thought of that!

    We need a name!*

    The team needs a name. "One that strikes fear in the hearts of my enemies" (quoted form Batman's first issue)

    Also, should we create a new SG or should we be included in a pre-existant SG? Or should everyone belong to his own SG?

    I was thinking that the nicest thing would be to only play together (so nobody outlevels the others). Also, some building decissions depend on teaming with the others. E.g: rely on the stacked to-hit buffs of tactics and not slot accuracy in any power. Other thing is that we could rely in the +recovery powers of other teammembers and not pick the fitness pool... those things could be fatal when trying to solo.

    Together we should be strong as a chain, alone we would be as useless as a single link. (That one is mine)


    I believe that could also be cool to have something in common in the way of looks. Not an uniform, but maybe a couple details, like a chest emblem and some colour touches.*

    What do you people think?

  3. This Friday the 14th at 19.00 GMT we are starting from level 1 a team exclusively composed of Defenders. The idea is 8-stack leadership bonuses and buffs/debuffs.

    As I didn't initially knew in which server we were going to do this, the main thread is in the defenders section of the boards.

    For more information, about how many people has joined yet and their powersets, see the thread. .

    I only wanted to direct possible interested people there. I am not entirely sure this is actually cross-posting (which I know it is not allowed in the boards) or not. If it is, please Kerensky, accept my sincerest apologies.

    I have decided I finally will be Radiation/Electric.

    Even if FF buffs will grant everybody lovely +DEF, radiation can do a lot of To-hit debuff to enemies, so in broad terms I think it will stack nicely with Dark. AFAIK, given how the to-hit equation works, I believe +DEF and to-hit debuff works mostly the same, ins't it?

    Also, Rad can heal, rez, has the lovely Accelerated Metabolism and is great against AVs.

    So far, then, we are 6 offenders:

    JayLeonHart as Violet Shift (Kinetic / Energy) who will join us exemplared as he is level 12.

    Dipstar as Angel One (Kinetic / Psy) who is level 10 already. Will exemplar too?

    Melian as French Kiss (Dark/Dark)

    It would be great if more people joins us and we can get a full team. Dead_Bleak still hasn't confirmed his assistance. Will you come?

    One Empath would be good to for because Empathy has some of the nicer buffs availabe (RAs, Fortitude, Adrenaline Boost)

    Another */Elec would be great too, to stack the endurance drain on enemies (for absolute pwnage). Could that be you, _Spirit? Storm/Elec seem to fit thematically (ask those Cabal Witches, )

    I will post a linkie to this thread in the UNION server section. Hope Kerensky doesn't pwn me or something... we can always debuff him if he tries...

    Thanks to you for your advices on other sets...

    I have given more thought to the Petrifying Gaze / Dark Pit thing. Maybe a magnitude 2 stun is not that bad in a team of defenders. Other sets (*/Sonic, */Radiation and */Psychic) also have stuns, so it could stack nicely. Whole mobs of enemies would look like a bunch of drunks...

    I think it would be good to have at least one Radiation, one Empath and one Force Field. The only set I won't play is Empathy because I have most of it (all but Absorb Pain) on my controller. Force Field would be particularly a great benefit to the team, because we have a Dark already. Defense + To-hit debuffs sinergize extremely well.

    Primaries I would like are FF, Rad and Storm. Secondaries are Electric, Psychic and Rad... If someone had some experience with those and can help me decide it would be much appreciated.

    I've got a Dark/dark defender at level 34 myself. I must say it is one of the most rewarding characters I have played.

    The only thing I can comment on your build is that IMHO you should pick Petrifying gaze over Dark Pit. A hold is always useful, it recharges pretty fast, and has the chance to hold bosses in one application. Dark pit is a very bad power (bad accuracy and only level 2 stun), or at least most player guides say so. If we han two Darks in the team it could be far more useful (for stacking).

    Yeah, 19.00 GMT is 20.00 here... bit late too. But as it is on Friday and most people does not work on Saturady, I could work well.

    No need for all to choose different primaries. If you want */Archery I would tell you to choose Archery/*. So you wont have to redraw the bow constantly.

    I think it would be nice if we all start together from level 1 in the Outbreak tutorial and then head to Atlas. Level 12 is what... 2-3 playing sessions in an 8-man team? That said, if you really love that character of course you could join the rest of the team once we reach level 10-11.

    Yes I have seen some teams with fixed builds, and though I think that would probably be the way to maximize efficiency, I also think that would be somewhat dull. The only "fixed" power choice I propose is Assault at level 6 and Tactics at level 14 for everybody. And please pick all attacks you can. The moment we all pick Tactics, we can loose all Accuracy enhancement slots and change them for damage or end reduction or recharge.

    I would also advice people to not pick travel power and prerequisite for it. It is nice to have two more options for powers. We could use the two temporary travel powers from safeguard missions (would be enough up to level 24 at least) and then do the respec trial together. Most of us will probably have some veteran respec, but anyway we should do the trial at level 24 for those who don't (and it is a fun trial too).

    That would leave each of our builds to pick up to 12 powers of 13 available from primary and secondary up to level 24. Which would lead to very strong and fast developing buffing/debuffing/attacking builds early on.

    What do you think about Union and all Fridays at 17.00 GMT? It's only a first proposal, just to see what other people propose.

    Uhm, that could be cool, but it strikes me as too few diversity. Think that there are 8 primaries available, we could even try to use one different for every teammamber… but it would make the choosing process too difficult. I thinks it's best if everyone chooses what he/she wants.

    EDIT: I myself have an Mind/Empath controller and a Dark/dark defender. I love both characters and their powersets, but I woud rather not repeat myself... so many powersets to try!

    I imagine that this idea has ocurred to someone else before and probably has been done:

    A team entirely and exclusively composed of Defenders.

    I think it would be amazing. With some minor planning concerning builds, the possibilities would be awesome!

    Defenders may have usually low damage output but this is mainly because they concentrate in their buffing/debuffing powers. My idea is a team made of offenders. Let's see:

    - As there would be 8 defenders in the team, there would be no need for Fitness pool in the builds. There would be constantly in effect some +recovery power: Recovery Aura, Speed Boost, Accelerate metabolism... Also, there could be constantly a "green blanket" effect to counter the squishiness and mezz protection would be granted to everybody by some other teammember. That would leave space in the builds to take more of the blasting (offenderish) powers.

    - Imagine 8-stacked Leadership powers: Assult provides +18.75% damage. That means + 150% damage for everyone (defenders do no damage? ha!). Tactics provides 18.75% to-hit buff when three-slotted. That would mean +150% to-hit buff (or corresponding capped value) when eight-stacked. Obviously that would mean absolutely no need for accuracy enhancements when everybody had the power. And those two powers should be picked at level 6 and 14 respectively. That would be the only "must" in the build. (Also, with that big amount of to-hit buffing, even the temporary powers as Sands of Mu or Nemesis staff would hit as often as any other power)

    - With a big amount of defense buffing (forcefields) and debuffing (dark, radiation), the ability of the enemies to hit the teamemmbers would be practically nonexistent (5%). Using 8-stacked three-slotted maneuvers for an additional 40% defense would be overkill. And could lead to endurance issues even with +recovery powers running. Anyway, it could be considered for sheer überness...

    - As everybody would be a Defender, there would be no need to explain the importance of not killing the anchor! In fact, everybody could use the same enemy as anchor... and that would even be fun to see.

    - What else... yes! Everybody could of course choose the secondary that he wanted, although I think a very good choice could be Electrical Blast: a couple of endurance modification-slotted Short Circuits would render the mobs without any endurance. If the eight defenders had that... anyway, that would not be a "must" (only Leadership would be).

    I think this team could be great fun and tremendously effective. It would be important that everybody played like an "offender", contributing to cause damage. I believe that enemies would be so highly-debuffed that they would represent no danger, even in a tankerless team. I have read posts of solo defenders taking on AVs. I believe that an 8-defender team could take on anything with nearly insulting ease (past the few first levels).

    Of course, the power choices and slotting would be very different than for a usual defender (no need to pick stamina, no need to slot accuracy...) so it would be important that at least 5 or more people would be present at each session. One day should be picked to play and stick to it weekly.

    Kheld only STF!!

    Even if 7 nova forms (somebody should tank in dwarf form) plus several extracted essences and photon seekers sure pack a lot of dps... I don't know if the AVs would fall without serious debuffs.

    My triform WS is only lvl 42 at the moment, but I have always considered if she would be able to tank STF's Recluse when Eclipse ended. I suppose tanking could be shared and repairmen would be great cannon fodder to fuel mires, extracted essences and eclipses... careful timing would be required though.

    Just the other day I was in a team with three fellow khelds (plus a tank, a scrapper, a controller and a defender). Controller and defender happened to be kinetics too... you can imagine the slaughterfest that became... 4 novas opening with AoEs constantly left the scrapper without much to do...
  18. If you have an Energy/Energy blaster, once you reach level 38 you'll WANT to enter melee. Power boost + Aim + Build Up + Total Focus + Bone Smasher.

    I use Super speed to enter melee very fast, deliver a couple big hits and then leave melee as fast as you can (with no SS, cos it is supressed but well).

    Sometimes melee is not the most dangerous place around an enemy, specially if your melee attacks can mezz/debuff it to hell.

    Comedy Builds

    I only meant that maybe "comedy builds" are the last reduct of diversity.

    Look at the builds of two "correct" Lvl 50 Inv/Em tanks. They will be 99% the same. Maybe the only difference will be their travel power.

    It is a pity, but it is true that the "need" for certain powers (travel, travel pre-requisite, stamina, stamina pre-requisites and, to a lesser extent, hasten and tough) turns what could be a great diversity of characters with different powers into a cookie-cutter thing or "sub-par" builds.

    Sorry... it is my eternal dislike at the fact that stamina is a need for almost all characters. This game would be far better if that was not so. The possibility of having three more different powers would make builds with the same powersets (not only tanker builds but all builds) more diverse and the game more exciting.

  20. Well, I have finally tried Archery/Devices combo and so far reached level 14.
    I find it quite disapointing.
    Activation times are very long and, in a team, I usually shot at defeated enemies.

    I was doing Positron TF and lethal resistant enemies (Clockwork and CoT Spectral Followers) laughed at my face. Luckily we also had an energy blaster and a storm/elec defender in the team...

    Only thing I like in */Devices so far is Targetting Drone (I rarely miss the enemies) but I can rarely use Web Grenade or Taser.
    (Yes, I chose Taser over Caltrops. I have Caltrops with my Traps MM and almost never use it).

    I liked the combo Fistful of Arrows > Explosive arrow. Looks cool. But does very low damage.
    Blazing arrow is... just OK, but other sets equivalent powers (let's say Power Burst) are much better and feel lot faster. And do not root you.

    So, a question:

    Can you really play this combo of sets without Stamina?
    Given the fact that with Archery inherent accuracy bonus and Targetting drone you only need one accuracy slot (or none) per power, I think I could use one slot in each power for Endurance reduction. Also, not planning to pick endurance-heavy toggles like Leadership and the likes...
    With that and the alleged low end cost of the Archery powers... can you really skip stamina?
    That would be the only reason for me to continue with this character.

    Comedy Builds

    I read this thread about “comedy builds” and it makes me feel sad somehow... If all the tankers used what is perceived or widely recognised by “veterans” and “connoisseurs” as “optimum builds” they all would have almost exactly the same build.

    “Comedy build” sounds almost as if laughing AGAINST some poor player that is playing his game and enjoying it without needing some gurus of tanking telling him how he should be doing it. And yes, I understand the concept of “advice” and being best suited to fulfill your role in a team. But it is all in the way it is told.

    I have a fire/fire tanker (named Fire Seraph, btw) and she is 27 and still has no taunt. Last time I teamed someone pointed that to me and told me to respec ASAP. I told him that my build was tight and that I would get Taunt at 30 or 32... despite his complaints, nobody in the team died not even once. I told them to simply give me some seconds to gather the aggro using the aura and some AoE.
  22. I want to roll a new blaster. After leveling one Energy/Energy to 50 and one Fire/Ice to 35 (and will level to 50 eventually because he is lots of fun) I want to try something more natural-oriented.

    The secondary will be Devices, that much I have decided yet. Now I have to choose between Assault Rifle and Archery.

    I don't PvP and probably would mostly solo with this character (though could eventually team).

    If anyone can offer me some good advice that helps me decide between the two primaries it will be much apreciated.

  24. I will try to bring with me a couple of my SG 50s... either a Grav/FF controller, Inv/SS tanker or Kin/Energy defender. They are seasoned veterans and I am sure will make me proud.
