Quote:Eh?The core problem I have is that, looking at a bane in comparison to a stalker, the stalker tends to come out of it with better ST damage, and almost as good AOE. It leaves me feeling like the Bane needs just a shade more of an edge.
The bane can pick up to five damaging aoe's, if it wants to.
It also has a "can fight at range" advantage. -
-
Quote:<raises hand>I'm pretty sure I have never seen one use surveillance ,summon two arachnos disruptors or stab with bayonet.
My huntsman build uses both surveillance and disruptors.
Didn't take bayonet, because the bane melee powers are more practical IMO.
[Also, with regard to the topic, bayonet's not a "bane" power anyway.]
Quote:Placate should also have a rifle animation (if it doesn't, I haven't checked) so it does not cause redraw when used while rifle blasting as not all applications of placate are offensively oriented.
Quote:I'd trade ranged defense in [Combat Training: Defensive] for melee defense in a heartbeat.
CT: Def for +range, BT: Def for +melee. -
Quote:Ye gods... they aren't typed either.I think most of singys attacks/controls are non-positional so defence isn't gonna cut it.
edit: and pets summoned by NPCs have a base 75% to-hit instead of the 50% to-hit of regular NPCs
http://coh.redtomax.com/data/powers/...ts_Singularity
I was aware of mind control powers being non-positional, but grav's *are*.
e.g. http://www.redtomax.com/data/powers/...y_Control.Lift
I never expected defense to be *completely* useless vs singularity.
(I figured even if they were non-positional, the purples would give me smash defense, so I'd be ok.)
[Also oddly never noticed, really...] -
From my combat logs:
Kadabra Kill MISSES!
Telekinetic Blast power had a 7.15% chance to hit, but rolled a 99.12.
Singularity HITS you!
Gravity Distortion power had a 95.00% chance to hit and rolled a 91.16.
Kadabra Kill MISSES!
Lift power had a 7.15% chance to hit, but rolled a 25.43.
Frin'Relo MISSES!
Brawl power had a 6.33% chance to hit, but rolled a 27.43.
Singularity HITS you!
Lift power had a 82.50% chance to hit and rolled a 62.14.
Kadabra Kill MISSES!
Mental Blast power had a 7.15% chance to hit, but rolled a 7.35.
Frin'Relo MISSES!
Mental Blast power had a 6.33% chance to hit, but rolled a 86.52.
Singularity HITS you!
Crush power had a 95.00% chance to hit and rolled a 59.94.
The mission difficulty setting was +0(x0).
I was on a Huntsman/Bane with ~26% ranged, 15% melee defense base.
I ate a small *and* large defense inspiration... and still got these types of numbers. -

Quote:I wonder what optimal slotting for AV holding really is with that kind of global recharge. And another thought... do you have room for some Hami Os in that build? Put mez/dmg in BoI.
Something like:
Peroxisome, Peroxisome, Unbreakable Constraint: A/R, A/H/R
Lockdown: +2 Mag, Devastation: Hold
Seems like it'd be interesting.
59% acc, 66% dge,90% held, 59% rch *plus* the 2 procs. -
Quote:While hold, attack, hold, attack made for a not-very-interesting plot, the low battery warning was a nice touch. Here is the link.

Quote:Well, technically, the whole team in the Woodsman video were /earth doms...Hang on a sec. I'm not having a shot at the achievement. I think Earth Assault is pretty cool for stacking mag and I entirely agree that having one on your team is a good thing if you want to take down an AV and the video shows that well.
My only point in this is that calling an Earth Assault Dom an AV Killer implies to just about anyone reading it that the video is going to be of an Earth Assault Dom killing an AV. Not a team killing an AV that happens to include an /Earth Dom.
Quote:So don't lump me in with the "put-up-or-shut-up" response. -

Quote:IMO, plant/fire's still the "training wheels" dominator.Hi all, after 4 years on COX I realised today I have never made a Dominator! I have levelled up every other type of toon (not every power set mind) so I think its high time to have a crack at a making a Dom. But I am stuck at what to go for. Can anyone suggest what would be good for my 1st try? I will be doing a mix of team soloing and lots and lots of SFs.
So can any one give some help or advice on what toon would be best for losing my Dom Cherry???
Thanks
Lots of early control, combined with a high damage secondary. -
Quote:Possibly, but even solo players can "run as" an 8-man team these days...That's certainly something I'm willing to try.
Singularity is the only power in Gravity I would describe as a pleasant surprise. It's far more effective than I thought it would be. In fact, it begs the question that two sources of ST controls backed up with poor AoE controls may well be equivalent in effect to a single source of good AoE controls backed up by ST controls. At least on small teams anyway. -
Quote:My $.02: While that's a perfectly *viable* role for a dominator, I don't necessarily agree that it should be counted as the "traditional" role - especially given the damage buff / refocus as blapper.I'll address the "traditional role" comments. I'll also point out that I'm addressing a team role. Solo, I have few issues with this Dom.
IMO, the traditional role of a Dominator is to:
#1 Start the fight and eliminate the alpha strike
aka Brutes <> Tankers, and we all know how the brutes like their furah.
Quote:As for #3, this is also made worse by #1. I've either used GDF or WH to start the fight and it's highly likely I'll need to use both. So what's left for ambushes? This is where other Doms use their lesser AoEs. Mind throws a Sleep, Plant and Ice probably already have their key powers recharged, Earth uses whichever of the big three it hasn't used yet or simply throws a QS patch in the ambushes way. Even Fire, which is largely in the same boat as Gravity with only having two real AoE controls has the option of using Bonfire.
[Personally? I'd resummon/reposition singularity. He's a bonfire that tanks, he rarely dies, and you should have a recharge set slotted in him anyway. Oh, and watching longbow go flying as one appears in the middle of the spawn never ceases to amuse...] -
Quote:With a skittle rainbow and the hero already down.Oh yeah, who was doing the heavy lifting in this one? That was about 30 DE I leapt into and herded up for you.

Quote:Neither did DC. He's *showing* what has been done.I don't remember starting a thread telling people that I totally remember this one time I did a thing.
[Again: money, mouth...]
Quote:I'm still not seeing it as all that big a deal to kill two AVs in a team of three when your powers stack. I'm really not seeing it as some kind of grand congratulation on /Earth that determines it's the AV killer, as if somehow this whole feat would never have transpired if not for Earth Assault, especially since the buffs to the dominator.
Perhaps if you'd stop reading past what's actually written...
Quote:I am also certain that there are players out there who can fail in a three-man-team to take on any specific AV you like to mention. But I'm also not sure what that proves either. Taking on an AV in a trio with well-stacking effects seems to me to be pretty much completely pointless to boast about.
Finally, I'm not sure how a video of me fighting an AV solo would meaningfully contribute to a discussion of what teams of stacked dominators do vs AVs.
Also, who's *discussing* teams of stacked doms? You?
That's *monologue*.
Quote:On the other hand, the point of this thread seems to be leave DC alone, which is probably some kind of lofty goal amongst you kids these days. -
Quote:You'll note that this was a pet-summoning AV, which is the sort of thing that tends to give teams more fits than normal. In any case, why not run the mission at +1(x8), record it, and show us?I personally am trying to recall three-man teams of experienced players that can't handle AVs. I am sure there are some I've been on - things like a situation where we had a sidekick.
Quote:Good that DC is having fun - and good that he's having fun with friends. I am however, interested in promulgating accurate information, and the thread title feels like an attempt to spin information and perception. -

Quote:Nope. You'll turn Earthquake (KD) into Bonfire (KB).I just rolled an earth/earth dom. I actually really like JJDRAKKEN's build...fairly cheap and more melee oriented than perma dom.
My question is....i want to 6 slot earthquake with the kinetic crash set for the knockback protection and the awseome 7.5 recharge....is this a good idea??? -
Quote:FWIW: Here's my Earth/Earth "Baby Brute" work in progress:My Earth/Earth Dom plays like a Brute, a squishy Brute with no passive defenses who has to be aware of everything that it going on and coming at her, but like a Brute nonetheless.
Let there be SMASH!

Currently at 30% ranged, 18% melee, 14% aoe defenses (plus EQ's slotted to -13% to-hit).
52% S/L 36% energy resists.
Mag 4 KB resistance (outside of domination).
29% global recharge.
I'm enjoying it.
