I am writing this to not only all of my fellow Heroes, but also to the people that make and have made COH what it is today. The BEST and ONLY MMORPG out there that doesn't blow huge chunks. Feel free to add your comments to this, but please don't start a slagging match.
I, along with a lot of you, have played COH for well over six years now. I came here all those years ago because another MMO I played went pear shaped. On the advice of my other Groupies from that game, I started on the Pinnacle US Server. I am from Scotland, UK but from my past experience with other MMO's, I felt the US Servers would be a lot more friendlier and a lot more mature. I was correct. No offence to other Europeans, but the US Servers ARE still the best
Unfortunately, those Groupies didn't last very long when I did arrive in Paragon. I did, however, meet some new friends. A lot of who were from America and Canada. As with my other Groupies, friends come and go. I did try other Servers and finally settled on Union. I found a whole new bunch of Groupies there and even finally managed to make more than one toon reach level 50. If you know me, you'll know that I do take a while to level my toons ...
Last year, I was asked to join an SG. To be honest, I hadn't really been in many SG's. I usually just did my own thing and wandered Paragon alone. But, I decided to give the SG a chance and see where it took me. I met an awesome bunch of people there, a few of them I am still very friendly with. We have grown tremendously as an SG and I really consider my SG to be my "other family". I would like to make a very special mention to three people from the SG ... Mura, Domi and Eleasy. You three have made my time gaming so much fun. As with every SG we have had our ups and downs. More ups than downs, thankfully, and have managed to get through anything that's thrown at us. If it wasn't for you guys, my friends, I would probably still be wandering around aimlessly taking years to level my toons. Thank you Mura! Thank you Domi! Thank you Eleasy! Your friendships mean so much to me.
It really does sadden me that come the end of the year, COH will be no more. I was absolutely shocked, gobsmacked, numb etc when I heard that there was some "bad news" doing the rounds. Once I read for myself, I was absolutely horrified. I cannot understand how NCSoft can honestly shut down Paragon Studios and the COH team. COH, as I have stated above, is the best MMORPG out there. It has also been very successful for NCSoft, so why would they shut something down that has been so successful for them? I am starting to ramble on here ...
I would also like to thank the COH team. You have made my gaming days so much more interesting. I have loved every single Issue that you guys have released and I haven't grumbled once about it. I love trying out the new powers and new arcs. A lot of the time, the new power toons get binned, but at least I'll try them out. I will miss your new developments, your game, your characters. Most importantly, I will miss donning my spandex and actually feeling like I do something worthwhile without looking like an idiot. To all the developers and staff on the COH team, I thank you ALL.
