  11. Good thread, I think I’ll bump it…
Just a couple things (sorry if I duplicate earlier advice):

    1. When grouping and things are going bad, pressing “F6” (on it’s default setting) will say “RUN!” without you having to type it out.

    2. When soloing (or grouping for that matter) and things are going bad, hitting “F8” (default) will cause your character to say “HELP!” in the local channel and make police whistle sound. Especially useful for lower level heroes who don’t have speed/jump/fly power to escape mobs easily. Most nearby heroes will be happy to help.

    3. I have “If you need help, press F8” bound to a key. So if I come across a hero, low on health and fighting several baddies, I can ask before jumping in and there is no issue about “kill stealing.”

    4. If you come across a high level mob in a low level zone, get on the “broadcast” channel and let people know where and what level. Usually a high level hero or four will swoop in and take care of it.

    5. Something I just learned – holding down the “ctrl” key and clicking on a power in your tray will set it to auto fire/active as soon as it recycles. (provided you have a target chosen and in range and available endurance).

    6. Bind, bind, bind! Binds are your friends. Use them wisely.

I know a lot of this is right in the manual, but you’d be surprised what people don’t know.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
    Quick question (hopefully)-

I know there is a “Ready” emote, and I could just bind that to key, but I would like to have a (large) set of toggles that I could use, chock-full of witty sayings. I have a lot of time on my hands at work to do this, but before I did, I wanted to make sure I did it right.

    1. On my C:\ I’ll create a file called “ready”
    2. Inside the “ready” file I’ll create many, many text files called “ready1.txt” “ready2.txt” “ready3.txt” etc. etc.
    3. Inside “ready1.txt” I’ll type –

    t “local I’m ready when you are$$bind_load_file c:\ready\ready2.txt”

    4. Repeat, changing text and load file number
    5. Once I’m in-game, I type in /bind_load_file c:\ready\ready1.txt
    6. Just hit “t” when I’m “Ready”

I just wanted to check this before I went ahead and wrote them all out. If this isn’t correct, please(!), use small words/simple terminology as I’m not too computer savvy.

I just get bored saying "ready" all the time when I'm grouping....
    Thanks

    [/ QUOTE ]

I went home and I tried this and I got a message "Unable to read in keybind file"
I tried to copy my "ready1.txt" etc into the keybind file but it wouldn't let me. I went over Curveballs directions again and it says "The first thing you need to do is create five keybind files." So I tried making a "keybind" folder and then loaded the "ready" files into the "keybind" folder. That didn't work either.
Like I said before, I'm not to savvy, so I'm pretty stumped. Anyone have any ideas? (please take it step by step)
    Thanks
  13. Ok, thanks. Yeah, I meant "folder." See, I told you I wasn't too tech-savvy!

  15. I’m working on actually writing out the origins for these guys, so I’ll try to keep to just doing the “inspiration” thread…

I grew up in a fairly large family (6 kids) and always loved the idea of a “Super-powered” family. The three heroes I play the most are all inspired by my own family – me, my wife and oldest son. (I have another son, but he’s just a baby, and I’m having a hard time developing a personality for him as an archtype.)

    Character: The Nittany Lion
    Server: Triumph
    Archtype: Science/Scrapper
Inspiration: I am a full time police officer, so I based my character on the premise of a police officer gaining his powers accidentally while attempting to stop a crime. I am (as is my wife) a Penn State graduate. I was disappointed to learn that the last native mountain lions in the Nittany Mountains disappeared years ago. I thought a great origin would be a police officer responding to a break-in at a University research lab (that was attempting to revive the native population of lions) and getting injected (or blasted or something) with lion DNA.
Basically, you have man who was already “fighting the good fight” against crime, now endowed with super powers, taking up the mantle of the school that he graduated from, and going after the people responsible for his change.

    Character: Wild Irish Rose
    Server: Triumph
    Archtype: Magic/Defender
Inspiration: My wife’s mother is from Ireland. I thought it would be interesting if my wife would inherit a totem or some Celtic jewelry that gave her powers. The Defender archtype is perfect fit, as my wife is the definition of “mother-bear-defending-her-cubs.”

    Character: JackaRoo
    Server: Triumph
    Archtype: Technology/Blaster
Inspiration: I began calling my son “JackaRoo” almost as soon as he could walk. He was constantly jumping all over the place, with the boundless energy of all children. Blaster type was good, considering that he is a wrecking machine. (Tanker probably would have matched him better, as he’s constantly running into things, but Blaster is working pretty well so far.)
