  1. Time is your enemy. Every tic of that clock brings you that much closer to death, and there is not a damn thing that you can do about it. As the years pass we get weaker. Our eyesight dims. Our hearing goes. We grow weaker and more feeble until eventually we can’t even take care of ourselves. But even though we all know this how many of us really dwell on our own mortality? We don’t like to contemplate such things because more than anything else it shows us that we really have no control over our own destinies. It shows us that no matter how much money we have or how good looking we are or even how powerful we become ultimately it will all be taken away by the passage of time.

Now looking at me you might be a bit surprised to hear me talking like this. What do you see when you look at me? At first glance you probably dismissed me as a dumb brute. After all I am built like a linebacker and I am sitting here in this cell. I am a criminal and since I got caught I must be stupid, right? Wrong. I have always been a philosopher. An observer of behavior and a student of history. Still, you are right. I am sitting in this cell. I did get caught.

I was caught not because I am a fool, but because I understand that time is my enemy. Our lives are fleeting and we never know when they’ll be snatched away from us. Given that doesn’t it make sense to make use of every moment we have left to us? Most of us spend so much time conforming to the rules of society. We wear masks designed to help us ‘fit in’. We follow the laws and obey our superiors because it’s what we’ve been trained to do. But tell me, and be honest, how much fulfillment has such a life brought you? Do you have regrets? I certainly do not.

I lived my life the way I wanted and I paid the price for it. Given the chance I’d change nothing. Even being here in the ZIG has helped make me who I am today. And I like that person. Change one part of my life and you change who I am. Regret is a wasted emotion. So is guilt. Take what you want from life and don’t apologize for it. If you look at our species you’ll see that throughout history great men were never those who followed the rules. They were those who made them.

You look frightened, Mrs. Wilson. And you should be. That sound you are hearing is the claxon signifying a security breach. It means that prisoners are escaping from their cells. That’s right the animals that Paragon most fears are being let loose. And I am one of those animals. Now if you’ll excuse me I’ve business to attend to. I hope you enjoyed your interview
