*Gets out map. Looks closely. Gets out magnifying glass. Looks closer. Looks up with confused look on face.*
Ok, can anyone tell me there the rails of this thread are? I cant seem to find them. -
Dante - Having played a Dark melee toon to 50, I am all to aware of the evilness that is trying to slay ghosties with it, though I love smacking them around on my /dark miasma/armour toons.
It looks like bubble can be played in many different ways, as a pure support, buff/debuff type, a squishy protector, several panic button powers and ones that are entertaining. Guess I will just have to see what appeals, and change it around. At least there is lots of room to play around with the build unlike most of my other toons.
Guess I will just have to play the toon now. Thanks for all the advice and help though. -
It's not procrastination if you have nothing better to do :P

Agree, but nevertheless it should be occassionaly, very occassionally. I.e. You shouldnt build or plan for it. And being "last man standing" is cold comfort to the rest of the team.

Oh, does that mean I shouldn't plan for the Spanish Inquisition either? That's my build out the window!
[/ QUOTE ]
Does this mean that Heroes will now be creating toons to specifically deal the threat of the Spanish Inquisition? I dont think there is a hero alive with enough perception to deal the with the suprise, and not enough resistance to fear! And as for the torture... -

No one plans for team wipes, but it doesnt stop people taking heal and rezz powers. The inevitable will always happen (less you are doign the MLRSF).
Also, why is it that scrappers are often the last man standing, and see them selves as godly, but a stalker does it and pulls it off, and its cowardly, noobish, annoying for the rest of the team and gives us a bad name. OK fair enough if the last man standing is the stalker cos he legged it when things started to go wrong, but for a player that sees his team mates fall, and carries on regardless, goes scrap-happy and avoids a total team wipe, isnt that something to be admired for? -
Thanks for all the replies. Played him for a wee while last night, got him to about lvl 4 while teaming with another defender and one or two others. It was pretty slow going with 2 defenders, but was good fun. My lil bubble made quite a difference and stacking the -acc seemed to help too. I like the idea of slotting my attacks with tohitdebuff, if I am not going to do amazing damage, I might as well make the boss etc useless. I think I will have to find room for forcebolt somewhere, looks like fun. I think ile play it till about 22, and then decide how I like to play it and respec it accordingly (vet reward respec, finally!).
I had quite a bit of fun running at the mobs in my PFF, then when they got bored of me turning it off and attacking. I saw a thread from a while back about using the aoe taunt along with PFF, could be a laughWas quite fun standing by a group of purple Vaz and seeing how long it took them to kill me, which was quite a long time. Lots of fun. I think I will like this toon.
I think ile take the knockback powers as panic button type things, ile figure the build out soon. -

void Torrent, it will annoy people who hate knockback.
[/ QUOTE ]
But isnt half of bubbles about knockback? Should I avoid the bubble knockback powers, or just take one or two for entertainment/shove them all into a corner purposes?
Thanks for the advice on /dark blast though, the 4 attacks you mentioned are what I thougth woudl be about right.
Ok, basic build so far.
1 - PFF
1 - Dark Blast
2 - Deflection shield
4 - Gloom
6 - Insulation Shield
8 - Swift
10 - Hover
12 - Dispersion Bubble
14 - Fly
16 - TT
18 - Health
20 - Stamina
22 - Night Fall
24 - Manooooovers
26 - Tactics
28 - Vengeance
30 - Aid Other
32 - Aid Self
35 - Resucitate
38 - Black Star
Hmm, very heavy on the pool powers, some of which could easily be taken out. But otherwise, any thoughts? -

I think a stalker can be useful for even a good PvE team if he is well-played and more than a burst damage one-trick-pony. It's a pity that there are so many who are not.

QFT Sitriel!
Remember folks, A.S IS NOT, I REPEAT, NOT YOUR ONLY ATTACK!
Dark Melee with ToF does mean you can control quite a lot, with 2x SB on me once and Hasten up, I managed to use it on several mobs all at once, I wish I had a screenie of it, 6 or so mobs just standing there wetting their pants while I danced around in front of the boss.
Stalkers are often either the very first to die cos of a mis-timed AS, or the only ones left standing after everyone else has faceplanted and are left to solo the remaining spawn to avoid an entire team wipe. The amount of times I have been the last one standing, and done this is quite a few, and often when I get bored on lvl 50 teams when the diff aitn high enough, ile just wander off and take a spawn solo. Always funny when the brute tries to 'help' me though -

One lovely thing about FF - it gives you so many free slots, you won't know what to do with them. That and the fact it's one of the "lazy" Defender sets - buff and go, just the way I like it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Kinda why I picked FF. Bubble up and leave for 4 mins and do what you like in the mean time. Was going to take Manooovers, tactics and probs veng, hover and fly (a floating bubble) but have no idea if ile need stamina, should I pick up aid other and aid self and go for rezz to? Would make sense I guess with my PFF making me likely to survive most things unless I die to quick to use it.
But also I have limited info on how to play this type of toon, I get it aint a pure buff bot type, I could just really use some advice on this!! -
Hmm, looking at the above list, Spines/nin would be a very team friendly build I think. Spine burst + Caltrops would add some nice slows, and smoke flash would probs be fun with spine burst too.
However, Spines/Dark, while end heavy, especially if you get scrappy would have some great team effects, though if teamed with a kin, then you would be ok.
Guess it would come down to personal preference and concept at the end of the day.
I do think though, that making a scrap-stalker just to keep up with the brute just aint worth it. Brutes are sledgehammers and we are scalpels. I personally see no problem with a brute taking on a whole spawn and us just taking out a few, especially if they are the mobs that would end up getting the brute killed. Though I will admit, on fast flowing teams, I do tend to get very scrappy, and often end up with end problems when I do this, so picking something a bit more end light might help with this. Ide Spines is most team friendly primary, as for secondary, probs /nin. -
In a moment of madness, mostly fueled by the new Jester set and me coming up with a concept I liked, I did something I thought I would never do. I rolled a defender! I chose FF/Dark mostly for concept reasons, but also cos the defence of the bubbles would go nice with the -acc from dark.
My problem now though is, I know next to nothing about playing a defender, force field as a set, or even dark blast (I have a dark melee, dark armour and 2 dark miasma's, but not dark blast).
So if anyone can help me with a decent build for PvE teaming, or just tell me what powers to get ASAP and which ones can be left till later or all together, I would greatly appreciate it. I could find little info on bubbles for defenders, and less on dark blast for them, though my search-fu is weak, ile admit.
Thanks all, and I look forward to playing my first defender! -

Taking Recall Friend isnt really gimping your build as a stalker, its just very hard to find room for it before till around lvl 30+, and is only really usefull if you team with people who dont mind missing out most of the map and drops. It has its uses, especially for Strike forces though. Its a power thats nice to have, but there are others that come first.

Oh you forgot about to have a good laugh when placating a boss too
[/ QUOTE ]
Hehe, I acutally mention in my guide about being careful when using placate when you have squishies around. Fun if they have annoyed you though -
In my revised db/dark build, I have room for it as ile be taking out power slice as it aint really needed until about 30ish, when its used for the sweep combo.
However, atm, it stands with just 2 acc enhancements in it, and probs wont get much more in it for a while. -
Hi Necropolis. Welcome to the Stalker AT, it can be a lot of fun, and also a lot of hassle.
Check out the guide in my sig on a general PvE guide for stalkers. -
Is it possible to leave out acro and just get KB IOs? Not sure about where these can be slotted, but an extra slot or two to save a power pick seems a good trade to me.
-
From what I have heard, /Db is a bit of a late bloomer. You get your heal at 16 and have ok resists to most things, but its worth picking tough up too.
But then, I never really planned on being a tanker type brute with this guy. If i wanted to tank with a brute Ide have gone /stone. -
Aye Shannon, I can see myself running Death Shroud when I have corruptors around, but solo or in small teams, ile more likely run CoF. Cant see myself running OG, and it aint even in my build, seems counter productive for a brute.
Will probs be picking up tough though, and am going to try and skip acro and replace it with kb ios, just so I have one less toggle to run.
Atm though, DB/ anything is fun to play! -
Well I finally managed to get my connection back at home, rolled myself a DB/Dark, and have finally found a brute I can see myself lvling, and its the first one to get past lvl 6.
Dual Blades is the set I have always wanted to play, just a personal fave of mine in any game, guess it comes from being pretty much ambidextrous myself.
As for /dark, made the mistake of taking more attacks and less of my secondary, so found myself being very very squishy, even though he is only lvl 12, he will be getting a respec to balance him out and get rid of powerslice as it aint really needed till lvl 30ish anyways.
Finally feeling the fun that is the Fury Charge!
I can see db/dark as a very nice toon, though mostly picked for concept reasons. Though I can see it being a massive end hog when I get more of the toggles, /dark has enough powers that are skippable to make the most of dual blades. -
So all you creative people, in the spirit of Xmas (and immense boredom at work) how about creating some CoX themed Carols?
To start things off...
Jingle Bells! Statesman smells! Numina laid an egg! The States-mobile lost its wheel and Scirrocco got away! Ohhh Jingle Bells....ect.
Let the festiveness begin!
