Yeah, didn't even get as far as trying to mount cider, it just tried and instantly failed. Can't get into live.
---Dave
ETA: Repair doesn't help, and "check for updates" tries again to download cider and insta-fails. -
Just tried it, works for me, thanks!
---Dave -
Yep, that did the trick too. Of course, it also forced me to redo all the graphics and audio settings. It'd be nice if the problem weren't tied up with other stuff like that.
---Dave -
Yeah, the fix for your last problem is to delete the Beta Preferences folder.
---Dave -
Gotcha. I did get in eventually. The new store looks nicer, and the UI issues I was having (like drop-down sub-menus going off the bottom of the screen and being unscrollable) are fixed. However the "can't relaunch if you used the store" bug is still there.

Hm. Now with today's patch, I can get to the login screen, but then it freezes when I hit "Log In". After several tries I decided to just let it hang for a while, and eventually it unfroze and said it couldn't reach the server. Last night, it was down all night (but I'm told it was up long after my bedtime), now it's down even harder than last night. Whee.

Guess it was a fluke, dunno how it managed to work, but now it won't launch and repairs crash. :/
---Dave -
Well, I tried a Repair this evening, it actually completed rather than crashing out, and then when I tried connecting it did so without me needing to erase my prefs.
---Dave -
Huh, the latest repair seems to have done something useful. I was able to start Beta up again tonight without deleting my old preferences. It's being really slow, but the shop works and everything.

Okay, I got to the end of the tutorial and was able to open the store and put Knowledgeable in my cart. Then I got a bug error message and the sound went to a loop of just part of the helicopter sound. It wouldn't accept checking out at that point, and I tried my usual "sound has gone bad" trick of switching in and out of 3D sound...at which point the game completely froze.
It didn't actually crash, but it shows as Not Responding and also wants 180% of CPU while churning away. Console tells me it had "3 zero tangents and 3 zero normals found in model 'Geo_Hips'" at which point there's a string of "got unknown socket family" followed by a number like 767, 618, or most commonly 512.

ETA: On logging back in (after doing the Zwil-dance), I found that the purchase had gone through. -
Hm. So is there a way to remove the preferences file without doing Zwil's file dance, and would that be enough to make it work again?
---Dave -
Hm, I tried launching just now, and it's back to being unresponsive. So we'll have to muck around with the files every time we want to play?
---Dave -
I only lost the stuff in the Graphics and Audio tab. So I had to resize my window, turn off a few graphics things that are hard on my machine, turn down the volume, etc. My keybinds were still there, though.
---Dave -
Well, I've been in Kearney for less than a month now.
Just started working at UNK.
And I got the store to work properly, I have rocket board and Beam Rifle bought, but it's bedtime so I'll have to try out Beam Rifle tomorrow.
---Dave -
Weird. It seems to have worked, though.
---Dave -
However, while I can try to repair, the repair crashes the launcher, and Play Now doesn't work.
---Dave -
Deleting that did let me get access to Repair again. And yay, more reasons to not install Lion yet.
---Dave -
And here's MY bug: I can see the store fine, the fonts are fine (although if a pop-out menu is too long, I can't scroll down to see the rest). But while it says I have 10000 points in one place, in my cart it says I have zero, so I can't buy anything.
---Dave
ETA: I tried running repair on Beta again, and it crashed the launcher. Now Beta won't respond at all. -
Additionally, you can install all the vidiotmap pack stuff manually, just go into the package and swap out the relevant files in the various folders. (Right click on the application icon and select Open Package, then you can dig around in the folders.) I've only had to do that a few times, when there was a gap in the Mac installers due to lack of a programmer with the time to do it.
---Dave -
By full install, that means "back up my costumes directory and expect to reinstall the Vidiotmaps packs" type of procedure?

Also, far fewer trolls on the Livejournal group.
