Answer: referrals from other City of Hero peeps and artists on deviantART (thank you) or from the favorites collections of different people for the most part. Word of mouth on different specials, sales, or support art being sold.

Gorgeous Colors. Kitty spilling the milk in all full color glory!
  9. Thanks for the comments on Graviton Girl. My first ever City of Heroes character back when the game started in 2004.

Gravity/Forcefield Controller - not the first choice for many when starting City of Heroes, but it looked cool at the time...

That's a good idea. There are plenty of different groups on deviantART that offer critiques - either regularly or on a scheduled basis.

With the City of Heroes group on deviantART, I think it's an idea that can be run past the founders/moderators.
  17. I don't mind constructive feedback and criticisms.

It was absolutely a vital component of my training when I was working as a Registrar in the District Court, and then as an Policy Advisor for the Ministry of Justice in Wellington.

As a Registrar every word and detail had to be absolutely correct as I was creating legal documents and forms based on the decisions of Family Court, Tenancy Tribunal, and Youth Court Judges, Justices of the Peaces, and Adjudicators.

Doing Policy Work was the same. Every letter, report, submissions and recommendation was checked and critiqued at every stage of the production for quality control purposes.

I started Creative Writing courses a few years back (completing my Diploma at the moment) and it was compulsory to not only submit your draft and completed works to the course coordinators and tutors, but also to make it available online to the other students in your class. Part of the course curriculum involved giving and receiving feedback and critiques.

And there were certainly many areas I completely sucked at as there are essential differences between business writing and creative writing. But it was a great experience.

I don't create much art per se, I'm still working on my own Manuscript for academic consideration in my Diploma. I decided to post the material on deviantART and open it up to critiques and feedback. So if you ever want to read and comment on my written contributions, that's where you'll find my material. And it's not just that it is minimalistic either. It is also about time. Each panel represents time. The more panels the more time it take, the less panels the less time... You want to slow down the first page to make it dramatic and give the reader that immersion but the fight itself, you make it between the panels and to the reader it gives the feel that they are sorta Iron Man about to fight...Time slows, but then bam it's over in a blink. That happens in a fight with the power like this that is disproportional for both sides.
I'm probably the opposite. Time isn't dependent on the number of panels used to depict a confrontation, as the time compression factor will be something that the writer and artist work out between them, and is largely dependent on the relative characteristics of the combatants.

Hero A and Villain B go head to head in a slugfest - shown in four or five panels. The length of time represented in those panels could be a matter of seconds, or it could be minutes. The blows traded, and the nature of the exchange (balanced, slight advantage, somewhat onesided, completely outclassed etc.) is shown in the panels themselves.

It gets even tricker when you script a confrontation in panels using melee weapons, firearms, and of course super powers.

There are certainly lots of heroes and villains in comics who could one shot opponents into unconsciousness (or death) if they wanted to. But it doesn't tend to make for thrilling viewing in a comic book if every encounter took place in one or two panels every-time the hero or villain got into a fight.

It's difficult to juggle two adages of writing - 'show, don't tell' and 'less is more' when you're creating something for the visual medium.

Forget that we're dealing with Iron Man and Sentry for a moment, and compare the two fight sequences that Juggertha has graciously given us to view.

Ask yourself this: What sort of impressions do you get from the story narrative of the first fight sequence, and then do the same for the second fight sequence.
  20. This intent of this thread was to make people aware of a major theft of art at the San Diego Comic Con. Not to assign fault or blame to the affected artist, or to enter into a discourse on how things could have or should have been handled at the Comic Con to prevent what happened.

If you have any information that could help Eric Basaldua recover his stolen works, or prevent them from being sold, then please contact him.

Thank you for your consideration and support.

Agreed. A one sided fight as it should be. The Sentry could well be pulling his punches, but making sure that Tony is completely aware just how outclassed he is against a being that goes enjoys going toe to toe with the Hulk (the only opponent the Sentry can really cut loose against) and has no compunction about tearing opponents limb from limb.
