I haven't read all the posts since the one i quoted, so forgive me if this has already been mentioned.
Warren Zevon has a song called "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" or something along those lines. It's about an- i
think- South African mercenary who participates in the Congo Wars is 'too good' and gets his head shot off by a CIA agent, and his ghost comes back to kill the agent, Van Owen, and supposedly inspire later revolutionaries- such as Patty Hurst (spelling?)
Great song, too, by the way.
