Decadence - The
American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language defines the word as marked by or providing unrestrained gratification; self-indulgence; excessive self-indulgence and/or moral decay.
This definition well encompasses the motivations which bring us together as a group and gives us an idea of what we strive to represent. Unrestrained gratification and self-indulgence in our villainy.
Decadence, as the banner to which we rally, should be considered far more than any single motivation, sin, or purpose. It symbolizes living a life beyond the normal boundaries of the society in which we dwell; be it a lack of concern for the comman man, a taste for the exotic and sublime, or disregard for the restraint of law in a city where super powers are commonplace.
The seven deadly sins are an anthem to us, brought beyond the bonds of conformity and taken to an extreme. Each Decadent is driven by one or more, perhaps even all, of these cardinal sins and follows their chosen vice along a path of power. We take what we want, when we want it, and how we want it and any who challenge us are clearly meant to be removed.
