PS: So MUO gets Statesman, Synapse and Manticore, and CoH gets Back Ally Brawler and Positron? And you call that a even deal?
[/ QUOTE ]
We also get Castle, WarWitch and pohsyb. We win by a landslide. -

Im with Happy_Killmore.
Sadly, I think NCSoft forgot a bribe here. They forgot to bribe the hard, core, dedicated player. Ill grant, that group is probably not as large or as influential as any of the other three bribed, but its the group I belong to, and the group everyone I play with belongs to. And my cheeks (pick one, of the four) are feeling a little stung here. As if Ive been slapped. Taken for granted. Why would we quit over something so silly as a new owner? We've been playing for 3 years, why quit now? Why indeed. Of course we wont. These bribes arent about making players feel good about the new owners. These bribes are about business, pure and simple, and for some reason that sends a dark chill down my spine for the future of a game I love.

That article was full of stupid. Loaded with it. I'm not an ignorant man. I can be a jerk, but no one I know would say that I'm stupid. Or a chump.
Yet I don't feel chumped. I can certainly see that these little perks, incentives, bribes, whatever you wish to call them, might be construed negatively by the more paranoid of the world, but I see them rather as junk given out because there's no harm in doing so.
Other than the hurt feelings of those with overblown senses of entitlement. -

If a few nights ago in a fit of nostalgia I didn't purchase CoV to play it in my spare time and, instead, waited a few days I would have spent $5 less.
...
The issue is solely the 72-96 hours from my purchase of CoV to it being given out for free. That's a pretty expensive 72-96 hours compared to the rest of the time.
[/ QUOTE ]
My gods above and below.... that's a whole...
.0694 to .0521 cents an HOUR!!!!!
Check your couch. You might get that back. -
Sort of. Jack Emmert now has nothing to do with CoH/V. (Other than always being a founder. No one can take that from him.)
Statesman is a character in CoH/V and thus part of the Intellectual Property of CoH/V and thus owned wholly by NCSoft now.
Dang... Ex beat me.
But did I like it? -

With one month free!
[/ QUOTE ]
5 bucks total. Compared to the 160 I paid. Yet I'm not pretending anything is owed me. (oops, 130, as I got two months free.)
Wait... this still isn't right... 80 bucks total. 50+50+10-30 -
[ QUOTE ]
This is interesting news and especially annoying if you paid to buy CoV for the extra slots and access to V within the past couple of days. I wonder what kind of compensation those people will get as a result of this because they bought something that they /really didn't need to buy/? (This isn't me, but someone I know.)
Yes, CoV is still for sale on the PlayNC Site, I just checked. Very annoying.
[/ QUOTE ]
They get nothing. They deserve nothing. They paid for a product and got it.
Of course CoV is still on sale. Some folks want the Villain splash screen instead of the other one.
After this, it won't matter what you buy. You get the same game buying either CoV or CoH, and if you buy the GvE edition, you get the extra goodies that come with it.
All can be found for 20 or less at your local store. -
Patriot_America,
AGAIN, you paid for development up to this point. I bought CoH alone. I bough CoV pre-order and Full. I bought the GvE goodies off the website.
No, I do NOT see the unfairness you speak of. You paid for a product. You got it. Now others are getting it.
Some folks waited until CoH was 20 bucks to buy it. I paid 50. Same for CoV and pre-order. Did you see me griping about folks getting it for 20? Nope. -

I think the biggest thing we as players will see from all of this is in customer service. With everything now under one roof completely, the support staff is no long split up.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless they move support for CoH/V to NCSoft NorCal, then support will continue being split amongst all the NCSoft America titles. So... no change there. Also unless part of the new money is spent on more support staff in Austin, then that, too, would mean better customer service. -
I agree, DJS, and I know that there are plenty of players that enjoy doing them, my brother being one of those people. But what I don't see is a large percentage of the population doing them. It seems to be the same folks over and over with the occasional "my turn to try it" person added in.
Granted, I do live on low pop servers, and this will affect my perceptions.
Just seems to me that this is a prime time to get back into the swing of fixing bad decisions.
Creating an event where you either need an ideal team or be loaded up with shivans and bombs does not promote global enjoyment. Nor, apparently, does an event where you go through the same attack phase 3 times, probably dying 3 times, over X amount of time.
My hope for this change in ownership is that we can move forward with fixing long standing problems with design decisions and technology. -

But if I ever once - ONCE - smell "raid"; I quit. End of discussion.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is exactly what I'd like to see more of. We just need more stuff to do. The real prob imho with raids in other games has been the loot tables and not everyone getting something. CoX doesn't have that prob. Everyone that participates in a raid gets the payoff. So I say bring more raids please.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why? What % of the population is doing Hami raids? What about the LRSF and STF? I'm betting the % is even smaller than even I expect.
Why waste time on events that the majority don't find fun?
[/ QUOTE ]
How about making them fun?
Improving the Raid experience is only one of many things they could add to the game to increase it's overall appeal. I see no reason to torch the "Raids" idea to the ground because they aren't as popular as fairy wings, renewable temp powers or yet another alt.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll compromise with ya. If they can make the 3 end game raids remotely fun, I'll back future new raids. Fair enough? -

With the people playing either CoH or CoV being able to play both for free now(meaning, not having to purchase the other half of the game), how about giving all the people with more than one account full vet rewards and bonuses to match their account that has been established the longest?
[/ QUOTE ]
Now this I could get behind. Tie vet rewards to the NCSoft account, not just the game account. -

That's pretty much what Robert Garriot (NCsoft North America CEO) reiterated to us on the team when he was here to talk with everyone on Friday.

Too be fair, LH, CEO's always say that during an acquisition.
But Mr. Garriot doesn't strike me as a man to break what's working, so I'll keep the faith. -

[ QUOTE ]
I do however have to hope that NCsoft doesn't decide that they need to make major changes to CoH - its a good game *now* - it can be better yes; but I fear the possibility of "WoWitization".
[/ QUOTE ]
Since they bought the game and are keeping the Dev team of a successful game, I can't imagine why they'd want to put their noses into the development and make too many changes. If they're smart, they'll simpley let the Dev team do what they do so well, only with more money, more people, and more support.
[/ QUOTE ]LOL yeah, I'm sure that was their motavation for buying out Cryptic. I'm pretty sure you can bet on the fact that NCsoft has an idea on how they are going to make COX "better." And with Ncsoft and the announcement that everyone is going to have hero/villian it's a sfe bet that much their vision is going to be based on PVP.
[/ QUOTE ]
I seriously doubt that NCSoft is stupid enough to turn this game into a PvP-centric one. -

[/ QUOTE ]
So can I get my $30 back since you don't have to own both now?

No. Thanks for funding all those free expansions. -

How do I get on CoH?
I have a paid CoV account, but whenever I use the CoH Updater, and choose a server, it just takes me into CoV..
[/ QUOTE ]
Lighthouse mentioned it wouldn't be live until tomorrow probably. But when it does simply login as normal and create a character. If you have access to both games you'll have a popup window appear with two icons in it. One for COH and one for COV. Simply pick the one for the type of character you want to create and jump into the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ya know... I just realized that I have a defunct, ancient buddy account that was coh only. I might fire that thing back up now that it will have access to both sides. -

I'm still waiting on JRanger to chime in on this, but let me see if I can explain it in another way to help everyone understand. I'm going to use BillzBubba as my partner for this example.
BillzBubba and I own a business together as partners. For a few years we go back and forth about what's the best decision to grow the company. We each bring new ideas to the table and bat them around and some move forward when we both agree, and others get knocked down by one of us. One day Billz comes to me and says I want to buy you out so that I can grow the company like I want. It will allow changes to make the business better happen faster, and all the proceeds the business earns won't be split between us, but go to furthering the company. I say, "OK, I've got this other business that I want to work on anyway, so pay me 'X' Dollars." Billz says ok, and we part ways. Billz goes forth to grow the business in an awesome way like he would unhindered by our meetings to see if I think they'd work.
So this is like NCSoft & Cryptics separation.
Now Billz, where is my 'X' money?
[/ QUOTE ]
That sums it up well. As for your X money, you already have the check. I'm sure it will be spent well on hiring more folks for MUO. Be well my friend, thanks for the partnership. -

Out of curiosity, to the doomsayers, knowing that almost all the current devs are still going to be working on the game, what brings on the doom? I'm honestly not seeing a reason for it. -

So does this mean that Cryptic will no longer be supporting the game?
Oh boy. no wonder the Cryptic crew would never commit to anything. They were planning on bailin'
/em worried
[/ QUOTE ]
I know I'm late, but the vast majority of the current coh/v crew jumped to NCSoft to continue working on coh/v. We've apparently only lost Statesman. -
Unless you believe in miracles, no. Nvidia has a VAST lead in performance/price right now with the 8800GT. I don't see AMD catching up anytime soon.
Matter of fact, we could probably go ahead and view ATI cards the same way folks should be viewing AMD procs. Why bother when intel/nvidia is stomping the carp out of them across the board?
Waitaminute....
55nm GPU? Cool. At least it will be more efficient at sucking.
There's also a tidbit about ALL antialiasing functions working with HDR. We'll see about that. -
Ghosting over water only occurs when you don't use my settings. The Patrons missing the majority of their bodies is a game issue that Cryptic will have to fix.
-
Honestly? Dunno. But the information you find would be happily read here. I haven't messed with multiple monitors and gaming in a long, long time.
Regardless, running without the renderthread flag on a dualproc/hyperthreaded system is too much of a performance kneecap to not use it. -
Good job on the voiceover, Castle.
