You can already very easily get the maps of enemies needed by repeatedly using oroborous. With that in existence, I again so no need for the devs to make it easier to farm when they haven't put a lock down on the farming they don't like.

    [/ QUOTE ]

the devs must love farming then, as someone stated a few posts up --- no xp gain = uber farming.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually that was a direct response to folks complaining they out leveled arcs and would have debt cap themselves to not out level them.

EDIT: Regardless would be silly for them to allow players to BUILD THEIR OWN FARM MAPS.

Since the thread exists, I'll make it clear I am looking for the name Jersey Devil

Hmmm... I think I now the guy that has this one in RL. He doesn't have an active account anymore though... if I see him I'll double check with him.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Confused. If his account is no longer active, how can he log on to delete the character, to thus free up the name?

  4. Every feature is not for everyone.

And devs certainly SHOULD NOT be making it easier for folks to find farming options INTENTIONALLY. That would just be idiocy in game design, when they can't deal with the CURRENT farming that's already in the game.

Glad you are not a designer. Your mmo would fail.

As I have been told by a player that has played since beta, the Devs frown upon "farming" and that is why the MA more than likely will not count towards defeat badges. As was stated it would make most (well all) defeat badges trivial, the big fat hariy deal has nothing to do with it. It makes sense, because Devs (IMO) know their base and they know that a great many of us will exploit (or "break" the game if you will which goes against the EULA) the MA to get the defeat badges.

Does that answer your question, as to why MA more than likely will never be opened up to allow for defeat badges to be earned? Besides what would the point of doing the actual game content if all you did was MA missions??? That would literally be the end of the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Frown upon farming? And yet, that's exactly what they encourage by putting in things like merits, purples that only drop from minions at level 50, Popular/Leader, etc.

Oh give me a break. "That would literally be the end of the game"? Overreact much? You're missing a "DooOOOOooOOmMM!!" in there.

What would be "exploitive" about it? Answer: nothing. That word gets thrown around WAY too much. There is no difference in farming a MA map and farming Gaussian's arc for Longbow for instance. And again, making the artificial distinction that somehow MA maps are better or worse than contact/paper/radio missions for doing the exact same thing is facetious.

As Rigel_Kent said, it's yet another ifandbut exception and a reason NOT to use something they are putting in an excessive amount of time to introduce.

    [/ QUOTE ]

LOL, many people play the game for stuff other than farming.

There will be plenty of folks who use it to build real story arcs that folks will want to play. Whether you can build a farm map or not will be irrelevant for many.

    Well written, and well done.

EDIT: Also shatters yet another myth that general whinners come up with.

    Let's see we've done:
    "A 50 can't make 1mil inf per hour"
"It's impossible to make a Billion inf in 30 days"
"It's ebil marketing that's screwing the market"

    Any others left to debunk?

Will have to work on that one next . . . actually the debunking of that happens everyday.

Just have to figure out a way to show it.

That was a very good farming guide! It covered all of the basics very clearly, and stressed good etiquette. Very nicely done.

    [ QUOTE ]
Do you REALLY think that the devs have no clue about farming? It's a well known legitimate way of playing high-level characters. It is somewhat frowned upon, at least as far as PLing is concerned, but 'normal' farming such as wall farming and NON pl farming is strongly, if not actively, encouraged.

Do you REALLY think that the devs expect you to be able to assemble a full set of purples (or the wherewithal to afford them) just running normal content? 'farming' is simply an efficient way of grinding, and one that requires specialized builds and/or archetypes.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think you're a little delusional if you think in any way the devs "encourage" people to farm. The devs want people to play the game. They want people to enjoy the content. That's it. They've stated several times that they'd like people to play a variety of content. If they encouraged people to play the same missions over and over again, they wouldn't have put in the mechanism for diminishing returns when running task forces. They also wouldn't have put in the code where spawns are calculated for team size as you approach them, necessitating the need for mapping the mission out before fillers leave.

I fully believe the devs see the farming and leave it at that, but that given their preferences, people would be playing the game for the content, rather than grinding it for the rewards.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually the DEVs want you to do whatever you like that keeps your $15 dollars (more if you have multi accounts) a month rolling in.

Also they want you to be hyped about Champions Online.

    [/ QUOTE ]

LOL, you haven't actually played Champions Online yet, have you?

I still wish this had a stronger tie to the mainstream lore than just a overgrown mini-game. Out do Television? Really?

    [/ QUOTE ]

What do you expect from Dr. Aeon? Seriousness? Really?

But yeah, I get your point.

Then again how would you explain in the lore, every super powered being on both sides of Paragon being suddenly able to reconstruct reality and create their own pocket universe, without bordering on silliness? I mean, really, even for a comic book universe. LOL

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's why I don't think it should be part of the lore at all. Our characters aren't making these missions...we the subscribers are. The missions that get selected to the hall of fame/Dev's Choice could simply be explained as alternate timelines/reality accessible thru Ouroboros. THAT would be somewhat believable.

The rest of the silly and "unworthy" missions don't really need to be explained thru in game lure IMO. If they absolutely have to be explained, at least explain it as a virtual reality device and not an actual machine that creates alternate realities for entertainment....that's just silly IMO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I partially agree. Ouroboros would make more sense.

I don't think however, that dev's choice should even be part of the lore either.

With that said I don't mind what they did that much.

What I do mind is that the roleplay aspect of it seems waaaay too much like co-op. If I were Positron and a known villan supervillan scientist had made a device that could warp reality, I would not be testing it to say "its safe to use for fun fellow heroes", I'd be finding someway to take it and HIM down. Especially with what most heroes know about his accomplice, Countess Crey. And especially with what Recluse's Victory represents.

    Just saying.

With that said I think I just wrote myself an opening summary for a future MA storyline.

    *rubs hands together*

We've been making the suggestion for months now that they could have used Portal Corp as a way to explore alternate realities that are custom to the observer (ie. You).

Personally with the epic problems Portal Corp has caused it would REALLY surprise me if they let LOW SECURITY LEVEL heros use it to do that.

    Villside though it wouldn't.

Finally, we are in a particularly chaotic point in update schedule. We're beginning the transition between I13 on live and I14 (which used to be part of I13) on it's way to beta testing--always a troublesome time in the update process. We're also working ahead on things for post I14 launch (booster packs, anniversary event, etc)...as well as Issues 15 and 16. Many things going into I14 can't go into I13 without horrible consequences. Likewise with I15 and I16. So, we're currently dealing with more future builds than we ever have and more open branches as well. Trust me, it's just as frustrating for us as it is for you guys. But we'll get through it and things will smooth out. Absolute worst case scenario is by the time Issue 14 goes live...at that point one of the builds/branches we're juggling (I13) is closed for good. Pretty hopeful that things will smooth out long befor then though.

I reported as a bug and petitioned the following as well:

Last night I stumbled across base to brainstorm conversions and brainstorm to invention conversions were not counting towards my crafting badges (Artisan, Master Artisan, etc.). No news there.

But what also happened was my villain who had done all that brainstorm work didn't get credit for 12 enhancements he crafted from his memorized list. I popped over to a hero on another server and crafted one enhancement from his memorized list which also didn't give him credit.

This afternoon the hero has his count increased by 1 but the villain's count remains where it was before I did my crafting last night. So while the hero may have been a lag issue, the villain remains a mystery.

Perhaps because he had done brainstorm conversions and the hero hadn't?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Or they may have tweaked something, added bugs, and in the process, broke stuff, so it might all be a bug. Wish we could get an official answer on at least how it's supposed to now work.

    [/ QUOTE ]

We are currently investigating this issue. It does look like a patch note was missed in regards to brainstorm ideas not translating to badge counts. We are looking further at whether the overall badges have been affected by this change.

    I'll keep you updated.

    Ex

    [/ QUOTE ]

Patch note missed sounds like "working as intended". And let me guess, the devs will not choose to comment on this either.

Do the devs think that they've got a big bunch of new people coming in so they don't need the old players?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's not a huge leap in logic to assume that.

What's with beating up on badgers? They are typically people that play every aspect of the game to the point of occassional monotony. I'm not sure why they'd want to push that portion of the community away.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If it were me I wouldn't be silent on the reasoning behind this change. To me this change makes no sense.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
I just confirmed it as well. I'm going to hope that this is a bug. If they're going to claim that either it was a bug that converting got you progress, or it was an exploit (which is why no patch note), the days of flat out lying to the players is back. And that's not a good thing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The only thing they can say is they choose to take this away. i can't see how they can spin this one.

    Epic fail.

Boy, the gift horse's mouth gets more attention in this game than a teenager at an orthodontists' convention!

Any 60-month vet who feels the 5 merit reward is a slap-in-the-face is invited to look me up in game and donate them to me. I will happily accept free stuff.

Anyone who has played a PB or WS knows how nice it is to have a REAL travel power at low level as opposed to a crappy knock off temp power.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It WAS a big deal... right up until we could get a temp flight pack at level 5 by doing 3 paper/scanner missions and a mayhem/safegaurd.

Now? It's just a perk of rolling a HEAT. Saves you 5 levels of ground pounding. And 5 levels takes me about... oh, 30 minutes of street hunting? Solo.

As for taking 4 travel powers, that still locks you out of of all the other power pools.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This.

Taking 4 travel powers would be stupid.

Plus you can BUY a temp travel power with INF in the shard and grandville.

Yeah this being a 60+ reward is not that big a deal.

EDIT: Though to be honest with you, you really don't need any of the pools to build a pretty good toon, for some builds/ATs. Especially with IOs.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
I think they should just allow people to buy Vet rewards early. That way you can wait get em for free, or if your one of the noobs screaming DOOOOM!! you can just open up your wallet and pay $5 per reward.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would not be opposed as I already get most of them anyway.

The game is having more and more stuff that needs to be bought, so /shrug, why not.

Plus more money towards development. :-P

*does the "that's so badass" dance*

Unlock Tier 1, 2 and 3 travel powers at level 6?

Flight without Hover? Superspeed without Hasten? Teleport without Recall Friend?

    Baaaaaaaad. Can you dig it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes. Yes, I can dig it.

Although it is too bad that they didn't give the option for all power pools. It would have been nice to get tough/weave without the throw away boxing/kick.

    [/ QUOTE ]

NOW THAT would have been EPIC FAIL. For game balance at least.

Stamina by lvl 8? Just lol.

Even with IOs you could not get that much recovery by lvl 8 (not counting purpled out 50s who exemp. )

[/ QUOTE ]Stamina has a level requirement of level 20, and 2 prerequisites. Stamina is a tier 4 power. Health is tier 3. You'd be able to get Health with no prereqs, but you'd still have to have 2 powers and level 20 for Stamina.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Seeing as how the devs didn't do it this way, I bet there were thinking of the balance issues related to that. Ofcourse a dev can just step in and say why. Till they do I'll just leave it alone.

With that said, what the hell can one expect for month 63???? .

    [/ QUOTE ]

There was some speculation out there on the boards (rampant, unfounded, and injurious ... just the way we like it) that the rewards program was drifting toward retirement. I wouldn't be surprised it this were the capstone, as it were, of the program.

    [/ QUOTE ]

LOL, that would be one hell of send off, and would make sense.

I mean I can't think of a term for a person who goes beyond 60 months with this game, but the term veteran for such folks just doesn't do them justice.

I don't think you could really truly reward that kind of dedication with any kind of reward, it would make sense that 60 would be the ultimate.

And ya, being able to just choose a travel power (basically what this is) with no pre-req fits.

The next thing other than that would be being able to roll a insta 50. (Though if it were me that would be the reward for 80+ months.

    :-P
