  1. Huh? Demorecords aren't busted - well, for the most part. A few maps aren't working. All they city maps are just fine, though.

I love all the player submitted videos that they have on the CoH web site. How can I enter this? Does anyone know?

They have had a couple of contests. Been awhile since they had one, though......

    Bots Video

That one is not born of demos. You can't show the interface in demos even if you wanted to. From what he said earlier, he used FRAPS (the paid-for version) to record actual gameplay then used Microsoft's Movie Maker (search for it at Microsoft's site, it's free) to put in some sound.

You can also do it by playing back a demo with demodump then loading the pictures. Make sure the FPS of the demo playback matches how long the pictures show.

Or you could even do both. Record the demo then have FRAPS record the demo playback.

All three methods have their pluses and minuses. Comparing them would be... well, it would be a pretty good sized FAQ/Guide.

P.S. Microsoft also has something called the Media Encoder that might work as a FRAPS replacement. I haven't fiddled with either of them very much.
  4. Hami was on PD 7 I think. As you can see in the text, it was right after the Cuppa-Costume Contest. I was on PD 1 for an hour and a half and saw no red names at all. (However, I think I may have blinded Bubba Z with my costume. We shouldn't hear any muttering about anti-aliasing for a few days. )
  5. Heh, yeah, if you were a tank. All the controllers that got told to just stand by the door and stay out of the way, not so much.
  6. !!!

Got any pics of Pouncetta Purrfect dancing?

    Please??

  7. I would be interested, too. It's actually possible to change the scale of individual windows with the /window_scale command but I can never remember window names. I have to screw around with it until it works. 6 months later I make a new character and have to re-discover the command all over again.
  8. Likes WoW but not CoH? You did smite him, right?

Moving to the beat isn't enough - it has to move to the SAME beat CoH dancers do! That or you have to cut away real fast.

    3) Err... this is a CoX video... so why add WoW dancing near the end?

    [/ QUOTE ]
That would probably be because they.... <deep breath, this is gonna hurt> dance better than we do. There, I said it.

The interface actually didn't bug me much through most of the video. However, if you are looking for demo stuff, check my sig. You need not resort to Sarrate's method!

You actually don't need FRAPS, either. Do a demodump with my demo launcher at 8fps then load the pictures into Microsoft Movie Maker with no transition and 0.125 for time to show picture.
  10. I think examples of all these can be found on my screenshot page. Follow the link in my sig, select the photo album.

Hmmm, hope I didn't post here before.

Actually, back in Asheron's Call days everyone seemed to be making avatars (we didn't have toons back then, ya'know) that looked more or less like themselves. And so we had a world full of white guys for the most part. I got sick of that fast and made my opposite. Male -> Female, White -> Black, Hairy -> Bald. And thus Tesslah was born (then translated to CoH). Been a great character and I don't think I've seen anyone looking like her in any game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    That's a really cool look Zloth! <@_@>

    [/ QUOTE ]
But...but... Tesslah is my opposite. If Tesslah looks cool then that means I don't!?

Cuuuppaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Squirrel is being mean to meeeeeee!!!

    P.S. Thanks!
  12. Yep, provided that 'one point' is the center of the circle. If not, you'll have to do a few lines instead of a circle. If you're just doing a quarter circle, though, lines shouldn't be too bad - three of four of them should do it.

Hmmm, how regular is music these days? I'm thinking of changing the command time display to show beats instead of hours/minutes/seconds but that would be a precise, mathematical display. If the music slows down or speeds up even a little bit it's going to get off whack. ("American Music" from The Violent Femmes is right out. )
  13. The new demo edit program is up!

    Issues:

    1. Big demos (over a megabyte) have always taken pretty long to load. When you do a move, the big listbox has to reload. If you are doing a lot of moves with a big demo then you might want to have a book handy.

    2. I haven't tested this with demos that go through midnight. I have a hunch it won't work right. If you have a demo that starts at 23.9 or something, push it forward to 0.1.

    3. Interface is 'ugly but servicable.' Controls aren't lined up, using the tab key to move around is going to be crazy, but at least the buttons actually do what the button text says it will do. Oh, and I haven't proofread the Readme yet.

Ooops, rats - I just remembered I didn't explain "Times around circle" in the readme. Well, it's pretty obvious. If you say 9 then the object will circle nine times between the start and end time. If you say 0.5 then it will only make half a circle.

    Bummed!

Who knows how to do Ascii Art?
  15. Young whippersnappers didn't have to go through the 70's. But then, if it wasn't for the 70's I never would have discovered classical music.....

If a guy named Mick Folley or Mr. Socko calls, you need to hang up the phone and immediately call a laywer.

BTW, shouldn't it be X/Z/Y coordinates?

    [/ QUOTE ]
If it were still doing that, I would have a broken monitor and bloody knuckles by now.

The only curve it does so far is circles in the x, y, or z plane. You can do circles around a moving object, though, so you can rez up a puddle, move that in a line, spin around it, and get yourself a nice spiral.

If I had the time there are a TON of moves that could be done. Circles not on a plane is high on my list. Generalizing to elipses might be handy. Oh, and I need to add the ability to face something other than the center point when spinning. Maybe move in zig-zags, or keep a constant relative position to an object. Or.... hmmm.... or maybe I should get this thing out the door THEN start working on more stuff.
  19. Any song that starts out soft then does a BANG and starts rocking. There are tons of them but you'll probably have to crop the video to get the change to line up with the bang. Or one that just changes keys or tempo or even just insturmentation after the first... errr.... how long is the mysterious part anyway?
  20. Quick little Video pumped up with a bit of demo editting. I've been working hard on my Demo Edit program so you can actually move objects around in straight lines or circles. Set the object, the start point, the start time, the end time, the end/center point, and maybe an object to face, hit the button, and the demo edit will move that object around. And it will do it without messing up anything else already in the demo!

Unfortunately, the interface is still on the nasty side (as in "deadly to pregnant women and people with pacemakers") but I think I can put the updated version up on my site either this weekend or next. It STILL won't be real pretty. You're going to need to know your X/Y/Z coordinates and be able to think in 3D but I'll at least try to make it so you don't have to specify all your angles in radians.

The vid starts with the camera panning along side my character (Tesslah), first facing Tesslah then a car. Then there's <ahem> a little mess (the camera is pointing where my character's feet would be if she were standing instead if flying - arg). Then a warshade pet starts spinning around Tess. Then a little Gear jumps in and spins around a different axis. Then one of those little protector bot things pops in and spins around a few feet under the warshade pet. I had a nice, slow camera pan over the top of Tesslah but the music ran out.

By the way, this was all done with free software. I Demodumped the demo at 8fps, loaded it in to Move Maker with 0.125 seconds per frame and no defined transition, popped in music from ftp.coh.com, quick title/credits, and there it was.

I'm hoping to re-do this showing off more demo edit tricks after I get the program polished and <groan> documented.
  21. TWO City of Heroeses! Now you know, if you would get a newer version of the Demo Luancher you can actually get demos to run in that old version if you want. If you have an even older version (an old Test maybe?) it might be able to play demos on the bad maps.
  22. But it.... but they..... command lines are... ah ha! Command lines are NOT quite the same. Leaving demo launcher with "my default" means the demolauncher doesn't stick a -Screen command in there at all.

That's it... that's GOT to be it!

[Zloth starts tying belts and chains around his head to keep it from exploding, just in case it isn't it]
  23. Working but:

    1. Teleport + assassin strike is a cheap win and pretty dull to watch over and over again. Especially when zoomed out so far.

    2. Your interface is covering half the screen. Either turn off the interface when you record or use demos.

    3. Music has 0 to do with the vid.

Sorry Proph but it just ain't so good. It's kinda like watching somebody picking carrots from the garden. From 100 yards away.
  24. Several maps have broken in demos. Seems to mostly be unique and arena ones. There are a couple of topics in the Tech Help/Bugs forum where we mutter about it. (My poor Ruludak demos!! ) It started a few months ago, before issue 7.

    [ QUOTE ]
When I run the demos from the commandline/shortcut, some costume options never load. Run the same demo in the launcher and they load.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Errrrrrrrr.... ??? You're not just saying that to make everyone's head explode, are you?

OK, I got a theory here - maybe you've set the FPS to something in the demo launcher? That forces the demo to completely draw the screen. (Handy for Hamidon Raid recordings.) Maybe?
