    ........................

"Level shift tier," no, because the level shift tier is T3, and that I consider to be above and beyond. Getting the level shift itself, however, IS something I consider at least the equivalent of gaining another level. Swapping that to the T2 power would fix that and shut me up right fast.
I hope that you do realize that it's only the Lore and Destiny trees that give you the level shift; ie, the upper level of the Physical and Psychic Trees (at least in print).

By all accounts, he's "merely" a mortal man with a driving obsession, the training resulting from that, and a considerable private fortune to buy gadgets with. Almost all of his teammates out-power him on a simple brute-force level. But even when he's not pulling Crazy Prepared stunts or power-judo, note that he still gets as much spotlight time as the rest of them - maybe even more.

Some people get into games like this, or the single-person version thereof, not necessarily because they want to juggle planets but because they want to be The Star, or on The Star Team. It's not a power fantasy so much as an importance fantasy. They want to be in the spotlight, alone or sharing it with a few. In an army, or a massive crossover, they're lost in the crowd - and that doesn't satisfy. It can't, because you can't have the efforts of 16+ people hang on whether or not That Guy shows up to save the day and receive the thanks of everyone who would have surely failed without their unique contribution.
Unfortunately, as far as the storyline goes, there isn't supposed to be one 'shining star'; there's a reason that it takes 16+ budding Incarnates to do the job.

It's an ego fantasy that can be realized by just getting their goodies and going back into regular play... heck; just taking my Controller from +0/x4 to +0/x6 off of all Tier 2s made me feel pretty amazing...

...but if Billy Badarse thinks he wants to stand out... then by all means; he can go do the trial while the rest of us act as filler and door sit. It already happens in non-Incarnate content; so why not here.

  4. Lambda is a pain primarily because of the 'hunt for temps' phase:

You're taking the team that just steamrolled the street, courtyard, turrets and EB... and splitting it in half.

Then you're either on the clock to to attempt that same steamroll (at 1/2 strength) while trying to find hidden objects or Stealth/Spiking the objects while avoiding mobs (effectively diminishing iXP, drops and/or neutering the AoE heavy members of your team (in fear of aggroing a map full of purpled out chasers))

This ultimately sets the pace for the Marauder showdown... if your hunt phase didn't go too well; chance are that your Boss phase won't be easy (without some further coordination)

If the hunt did go well and instructions are followed; then you can practically steamroll through the last phase as well.

BAF is a big free for all; everybody gets to let loose and kill stuff.

One thing that I wish the Team Leaders would do is 'team sharing'; taking half the members of a tagged team and swapping them with half the members of another team... so all parties involved reap the benefits of 'split activities'. Or at least creating 'soft teams' by grouping members using their numbered position on their respective League teams.

[and I just found out my Accolade Powers will work in the Trials... dun dun dun; Controller on crack coming soon]
  5. The way I see it, its a welcome break from soloing all the time... there's no problem finding teams for this... nobody's really behind the learning curve at this point (I've only seen one elitist attitude crop up since release) and rewards are good (I've gotten 3 purple drops since release in addition to Threads and the like)

Best part for me though, is slotting the T1 in each of the slots (and T2 Lore) then giving it a whirl in regular content (ahhhh, new car smell).

Even if there turns out to be more Trials, that just means more variety in getting Threads (assuming that they don't come up with yet another currency for the last Incarnate Trees).

Do I think its fun to solo for Shards/Threads... no, waaaay to slow but its not much different, IMO, than soloing for Purples and grinding for Inf to flesh out my IO sets.

Again, maybe it just because I'm tired of soloing at this point, but I'm glad to see content that brings teaming up to the level it was when I started my subscription.

[And now, they're using the League system to set up Rikti Raids.]

You didn't imply frequency in your post; nor did I, as it is mostly irrelevant to 'grinding'.

[Edit (because I had to rush out for an errand): Nor did you state goal of repetition.

Once I've taken 30+ alts through the same 30+ levels of content (I only have a handful of 50s); it's irrelevant whether I've repeated the content in one day or over the course of five years... its still a grind at times.]

Sorry to burst your bubble; unless they're coming out with a new arc a day, then you're grinding pretty much after the first few months (if not weeks).

After five years... 90%+ of normal play is grinding; whether its content, ATs, powersets, progression, badges/accolades, mobs, maps, zones, etc... and people wonder why I look forward to new stuff (ie. shinies).

[At this point, they pretty much have no option but to create new content (as they have come up with [systemic] means for a single toon to play all existing content). That, and/or continuing to build upon the AE system.]

And yes, I play for fun and shinies... if there were no shinies; I wouldn't waste my time and many others wouldn't and the game would fold. It's a dang video game and an MMO to boot. (lol, definitely not here for the storytelling; right Venture?).

Whether its XP/levels, currency, gear, powers, pets, badges, costume pieces, new accesses, bragging rights... whatever; this game is 99% about shinies. To attempt to invalidate playing for shinies; especially in this industry, is a Fool's Errand.

And if you find it more fun to jump up and down in Atlas with your 50 than actually playing the game (at a cost of $15/mo); more power to you.
  9. I've done about 5 full BAF runs today (in about the same amount of time I would've used grinding for Purples and Alignment Merits (or just shooting the breeze here).

    1. It was fun... I'd rather tun these Trials than any of the other TF/STFs I've been on on a regular basis and I'd rather get these easily assembled teams (can see the Turnstile and League function trickling down to other content) than continuing to bug hunt for regular PUGs and/or continuing into my 5th year playing primarily solo.

    2. The rewards are fast and you can easily find yourself done with the *oh, the agony* Trial grind in a week or less (getting you back to the solo play that you desire above all else). I've managed to upgrade my Interface to T2, slot my T1 Destiny, as well as unlock, slot and upgrade my Judgment to T2 in a span of 4 hours.

There is nothing in the game (outside of the 1-10 game) that would allow me to gain anything significant, as quickly, in solo play as opposed to team play. Team hunting for Purples isn't even this quick, Respec Trials take just as long (longer if you're going for a comparable number of 'Dings') and many regular TFs take twice as long for less reward... I can even give the middle finger to the Market with this setup.

There's absolutely no valid reason to make this kind of content anywhere this easy to a solo player. (Easier, perhaps... but nowhere remotely as easily as it can be obtained on a team) None.

For Pete's Sake, quit whining about every. little. detail. I honestly don't get why some of you can play with all this bile and venom built up inside of yous.

[It's not like you were doing anything better with your 50s anyhow]
  10. Where's the solo content, lol, you guys are kidding, right?

    In less than one year:

Issue 17 gave every player graphic and UI upgrades and both sides 2(4) contacts for lvl 20-29 solo content

Issue 18 was Alignment/Tip missions and a gap close that finally allowed a single toon to do all available content in the game

GR offered two factions worth of solo 1-20 Praetoria content

Issue 19 presented 2 more contacts for lvl 20-29 solo content and the Ramiel arc at 50 (plus QoL and graphical upgrades available to all)

Solo options were made more lucrative thanks to the Incarnate and Alignment System and outnumber the TF options by at least 2 to 1.

Every one has been given access to more powers and extra slots (Temp, Alignment, Incarnate) and a free Power Pool

I know there's been a lot of focus on systems and mechanics this year but to say that solo options have been skimped on is misleading. If the complaint is Incarnate Tree specific; get over it... get it done while everybody's doing it then flex your new found muscles at those mobs that were picking on you before.

Besides, they have yet to fill out 21-50 Praetorian [or even Incarnate] content... be patient.

Most of the Lambda Trial isn't even that hard... just go through and kill stuff; then go inside and kill stuff. The only part that's difficult is the part that's supposed to be difficult; fighting a pain in the butt Boss...

just like running the ITF (but with less lag). [easier, actually... just have to get the acid/grenade thing down]

I do not believe that, not without a significant dumping of inf to convert a lot of lucky thread drops. I got 10% physical experience and 3 threads on a failed run. If one thread is worth about 4% experience (from what I'm hearing on the forums), that's 22% and a lot of inf spent per fail. You would have to have been extremely lucky with the thread drops *and* spend a small fortune in order to unlock in only 3 failed attempts.

I'm not calling shenanigans, yet, I'm just saying -- what you describe is contradicted by what I have seen so far.
On Lambda, we were getting around 30% per run; we cleared the outer streets, then the courtyard; then turrets... after going inside (1st time we got ourselves seriously lost messing with the stupid elevators), we hit whatever was in the labs until the timer ran out and then proceeded to get our behinds handed to us by the Marauder spawns.

I would've ran it a fourth time but I don't like dealing with mission crashing glitches.

We just had a single 8 man team for our League (making sure everyone was assigned to the same team) and went from there.

I cannot comment on the BAF as I have not had the opportunity to run it yet.

I was at 16% unlock on Destiny at the time of the boot and decided to turn in a Thread to see how much more it would unlock... a whole 3%.

ALSO, 2nd weirdness - normally healing flames heals me for 740, and randomly, in about half the trials, I could only heal for around 660. As soon as I leave a trial it goes back up to 740 immediately, and sometimes it is 740 in the trial, but often times, maybe in over half now that I think about it, I could only heal 660.

Not sure what is going on with that at all - I can't imagine it's from the no temp powers thing because I am not using any - that's my normal heal.
Could have something to do with the level shift mechanic; I've noticed that when I die on a level shifted toon... the mob con color would change.
  16. I failed 3 times on the Lambda trial unlocking my Interface slot and making a little progress into my Destiny slot - I scored about 15 Threads and made some Inf.

Did I care that I couldn't ace it right off the bat? No, because just like in the 1-50 game, I made progress; win or lose.

The only thing that bothered me was that I was one on the first on and we didn't get more than a team of 8 at a time (at that time) and the glitch that force-quit the team.

I liked, that as a PUG, no one got all anal retentive that only one or two read the 'hint book'... we went through; learning from our mistakes, talking trash and kicking tail.

At this rate, I might not even complete the trials before unlocking and slotting all my IPs; which is my primary concern at this time.

I've been there, only to end up torturing myself with guilt many times after knowing I could have done more if I didn't let these things get to me. It felt like a part of me was dying each time. Some people come up with excuses after why they don't help to help justify their inactions, but deep down they know that not doing anything was wrong...it's against their core belief system, at least I hope it is.

I'm not among those mentioned that go out in costume looking for trouble, but I can tell you stories of when I didn't help, and I can tell you stories of when I did do something, and some in between. Maybe it's cause of growing up reading comic books and watching superhero cartoons, but helping always felt way better than not. Maybe that's why these people are doing this, they're looking for a way to feel better about themselves, cause they've felt the alternitive. With a costume they can do so as another person, as they don't like what they've seen in themselves or in the others around that persona.
No, not really... I'm usually the guy with the 'White Knight Syndrome' but I know my limitations and I know my environment. I've been a victim both with and without assist; I've even been the aggressor. Most of the people I knew (at one time), however, were the (take no shorts) bad guys and are the reason I would caution people to not be 'thrill seekers' and 'costumed crime fighters'.

I've seen enough people get their faces punched in, property damaged, friends and family harmed and even deaded because they weren't as lucky (and I emphasize that emphatically) as you. Maybe our neighborhoods are different; maybe the people in your area aren't as prone to physically tell people to 'mind their business' as they are in mine. Or maybe I'm just surrounded by too many chemical dependents.

I've even seen people get into legal trouble for 'getting involved' in something that escalated beyond their control.

And I've seen more than my share of would be bad guys get turned into victims in 'vigilant acts'.

I'm glad to see that you've made it this far confronting people at night with a group of friends and a baseball bat but that's not the message that should be going out to people... I've seen both sides and discourage it greatly.

Again, in an age of cell phones and camera surveillance, there is a minimal need for people to wade into the thick of it. Call 9-1-1 from a position of safety if the situation calls for it. Don't let delusional thinking (or arrogance, overconfidence, routine) get you hurt. And don't mislead other people into getting themselves hurt.

And again, every situation is not confrontational or dire; so if 9-1-1 would be overdoing it and wading into the thick of it is not going to cause confrontation; then by all means... close the gap.

But running around with bats, stun knuckles, shields and/or a gang of buddies; trying to look all scary and intimidate people out of doing something is going to get someone hurt; even if it isn't you.

Fiction. People, in general, have been killed intervening in things like domestic abuse, breaking up fights and snitching; in this, costume is irrelevant. Especially in gang and gangster infested areas.

There are risks to 'patrolling' and looking for trouble; no matter what clothes you wear. Police are well aware of those risks and they take greater pains to lessen those risks through training, equipment, communication and strong organization than does the average citizen or wannabe superhero. Does that keep them from dying in the line of duty while 'patrolling'? No.

Does this mean that they can't have fun while feeding the homeless or similar non-aggressive activities? Of course not... but that's not all that these types are doing (or have been doing) since the 70s. (Or the 60s if you want to count the activities Black Panther Party and the Nation of Islam).

There are extremes to this type of behavior; people that see themselves as the police alternative to keeping the streets safe in times of 'breakdown'. Militia groups and the like are common place and hold a completely different approach to community service than well established and qualified NFP groups like The BSA/GSA, Red Cross, local outreach and shelter programs.

I know for a fact, if one of these guys had a habit of being around when people in certain neighborhoods I've been in kept getting busted... it would only be a matter of time [before] their patrol would get cut short in dramatic fashion.

So yeah, more of that please! Little bits of sillyness like this don't hurt anyone, don't be so curmudgeonly.
Big difference in your example and what the story was about. The students were on their way to a costume party; the participants in the vid are not.

And there's a big difference between dressing up like two known icons and looking like a crime-busting Christian Bale did in "Batman Begins"; before the Batman cowl was complete.

There's occasions for dress up (and if something happens during those occasions, so be it) but to pull a KA invites the same kind of pain and near death that happened in that same movie; without Big Daddy and Hit Girl to pull their amateur behinds out of the fire... even without donning a costume.

I'm not advising to do nothing... however I would advise against 'aggressively looking for trouble'.

Its not like I've never daydreamed about being a Punisher/Batman-esque or Guardian Angel type, but when it comes down to it... that's toeing both the legality and the personal safety line... and I don't need a poorly made, cumbersome costume to get a cat out of a tree, help an old lady across the street or dial 9-1-1.

If one absolutely must have a costume in order to deter crime; join the police, join the military or wear a neighborhood watch t-shirt and an orange vest. Anything else is an externalization of personal delusion.
  22. Personally, I would like to start receiving rewards for things that spawn out of portals again but am aware of the exploits that hinder that desire from becoming a reality.

As a work around, at least for the Ritki portals, can we modify the portal so that it becomes an 'unstable' and dangerous connection that could fall apart at a moments notice.

Mechanically, that would mean that the Portal becomes like [a CoT suicide Mage] (reaches zero HP then explodes; wide radius PBAoE that damages players) but with a degenerating HP effect attached to it upon creation (timer).

Randomize the Portal's spawns to further throw off the frequency of the spawn and to include all ranks.

We have Neighborhood Watch and the police. We also have mobile telecommunications and media transfer. I'm glad that there are people willing to look out for their fellow man but playing dress up is a good way to bring oneself hindrance.

If I fall off a bike, I don't want to worry about the mental state of the guy running up to me in a pair of leotards, a trench coat and a foil hat.

I don't want some costumed person coming up to my kids if I'm not around (and if its not halloween or other function); not even if I am.
