  1. You can *use* an unlimited amount of earned or free respecs. There is no limit to the amount of times you can respec.

The fact that you can now buy an unlimited number of respecs with real money is a clear sign of unlimited respecking.
  2. Update: Another source of a respec is the one VEATs (Villain Epic ArcheTypes, the Soldiers and Widows) are forced into when they level up at Level 24. This is unlike either the Earned or Free Respecs and has no effect on either the Earned or Free Respecs (except that you may want to plan on the fact that you'll be respecking at level 24 and so, burning some other respec at level 22, e.g., might not be worth it).

how would i make a bind to button 1 and target teammate 1 and heal other at the same time?

Heroes_Demise asked me this in a PM, too (welcome to the forum!).

I answered it in a PM back.
  4. We've mentioned to Red in several fora that the CoD interface needs fixin'.

Until then you can find drone info here:

    http://coh.redtomax.com/data/powers/....Energy_Drone2

Someone on the CoD forum was kind enough to give us direct links to the pulldown menus you ordinarily can't click to here.

I'm back ... only good reasons for my absense. I am now a proud (and poor) homeowner and have been buried beneth pots of paint and garden refuse for what seems like forever. The light is at the end of the tunnel and I am easing back into the "scene".

The house came as a surprise as we had been looking for a while, and out of the blue we found a lovely end of terrace house; what's more it was just about within our budget! We have no interweb at home yet, so I'm not back full time, but hoping to get through the piles of e-mail and PM's everyone's sent me whilst on the company's bandwidth

We desperately missed you! Welcome back!
  6. He was engaged or something, and then he fell off the planet.

If he gets back, I hope his site can be mirrored somewhere, because if it glitches, or he plays with the interface and breaks it again, it would be nice to have all that info somewhere else.

Anyway, someone on his forum (now part of the Titan Network forums) posted links to the sections of the database that you can't get to from the top menu of the site. You can find them here:

Ah yes, that does make more sense. I thought he was referring to Grun's application. The 'with' seems to be clipped out, unfortunately.

Also, the full quote is: "For the love of villainy, get a new ringtone!" Which makes it even funnier.

    Check out these guns.

Folks, it's a guide. Agree or disagree, there's no need to tear the OP down. He didn't say that Doms or MMs are "gimp", he said they didn't bring speed to the SF. Whether you agree or disagree, that's not an unreasonable opinion.

MMs certainly have a lot of damage and debuffs/buffs, but they do require set up and more maintenance than joe average brute.

Doms are wicked players, played right, but they aren't usually considered the highest DPS.

    [/ QUOTE ]

We're not tearing the OP down, we're tearing his 'guide' down.

He didn't start out by saying that only high level toons need apply, but it was implied when he talked about going to Ouroboros and using scads of inspirations. And then he admits that he only recruits high level toons because they're more fully slotted. And this is after saying in the OP that the leader should be ready to TP teammates who haven't taken a travel power yet! (!!!)

But if his guide is for a really fast Speed Cap, then it doesn't go all the way. If you want the fast Speed Cap, take four Corrupters and tell the Brutes to stay at home because no one has time to wait for them to build up Fury, which doesn't help at all for all those stealthed missions. The AoEs of the Corrupters with their debuffs can outdamage the Brutes.

Only add players who've six slotted their pre-22 powers with IO Sets.

Only add players who also have full invis and are 4 year Vets with Assemble the Team.

*That* is a fast Speed Cap. Not some half-hearted attempt at part-way efficiency by a misinformed understanding of the ATs of the game. (MMs take time to set up? Brutes take time to build fury! MMs level up as fast as brutes.)

Rather than take our critiques to heart and revising the guide, the OP is obstinant in sticking to it, except in those instances when he contradicts himself.

This ain't a guide. Real guides have correct information and don't contradict themselves.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
At this tunnel, the NPCs spawn around the altar in all directions, making it impossible to click without aggro.

    [/ QUOTE ]

When my worthless MM is running this SF, he casts some pets to distract the mob and then clicks. Stupid, worthless MM!

Also, as mentioned in a real guide in the Guide sections, the Empowerment Station stealth buff doesn't suppress when you click, meaning you can get pretty close to a mob and click as long as their backs are turned toward you.

Another point counter to the OP: What if you want to run the Speed Cap at level 20? You don't have an Oportal to fill up on inspirations and you don't have 20 inspiration slots. The OP's Speed Cap is heavily dependent on inspirations to power your way through... that's not helpful for someone who's not 25 yet.

If the OP wanted to give us a 'speed record' guide for anyone who wants to min-max this to shave off 15 minutes. Then, yeah. Carefully choosing powersets and working with level 50s malefactored down is the way to go.

If you just want to do a PuG SF in a breezy 45 min, which isn't too bad 'cause you're picking up magic salvage along the way, then this guide is way too particular about ATs and powers. If the leader has the invis and recall, any PuG that follows directions can do it in 45 min.

And speaking of invis, of these four: Stealth Power (available in some sets and to everyone in the Concealment Pool), SuperSpeed, Stealth IO, and Empowerment Station Stealth buff; any two of them will give you full invis and you won't need all those shield inspirations. Or, be a Stalker.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
i understand what aegis is saying, correct me if i'm wrong. maybe it CAN be run faster with a different team makeup, but it might require certain primary and secondary powersets for each dom or corrupter, and if they got a certain power pre-level 20 or not. its harder in a PuG, especially redside finding a particular type or corrupter or dominitor to do cap runs with.

aegis' method is that you have the flexibility of getting pretty much any type of brute or stalker as long as teh brute has a decent aoe dmg output.

recruiting time plays a factor in it as well, why shouldn't it? if it takes you 30 minutes to get the perfect type of dom/corrs etc.., and you finish the cap SF in 30 minutes, but using aegis method with the flexibility of recruitment, maybe it takes aegis 5 min to recruit, and they finish the cap run in 40 minutes, i'd take aegis method. plus it'll be more consistent rather than trying to get specific types of dom/corrs, and thats IF you are able to recruit them at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No... just the opposite. Since the OP's method is to only use two of the seven archetypes (yes, there are seven now -- any archetypist guide should take that into account), he'd wind up waiting longer to put together a group than someone who welcomes all ATs, because, the SF can be done quickly with any mix of ATs (with any set of powersets) as long as the leader has the ability to quickly stealth-tp and give quick, explicit instructions to the team.

My MM and my Stalker run Speed Caps all the time with PuGs and all ATs are welcome.

-Regen is not needed to take down these low level AVs.

This 'guide' is the villain equivalent of a Task Force guide that begins with: "Get a Tanker and Healer...."

There are real guides in the Guide to Guide section that run through this SF without any AT limitations.

Some of this is plagiarized from the COH Gameamp website but I added some very important parts.

I recommend that your whole team carry about 6 wakies each before beginning this trial. We loaded up on them before we started and we may have needed all of them. I know I used all 6 of mine on myself and teammates. My team was a pick up group and composed of a stone tank (myself), 3 defenders, 1 PB, 1 blaster, and 2 scrappers.

Get trial from Mairenn MacGregor in Atlas park next to sewer entrance.

After defeating all Rikti and Kraken on the lower level, it is time to kill the Hydra's tentacles. I don't think the thermal cannons were particularly effective against the tentacles and most of the damage was done with normal powers.

ItÂ’s hard to say if the thermal cannons can damage the head, too, but the particle cannons will definitely do it. Normal powers will not damage the Hydra Head.

Damage logs will show what's effective and what's not.

Why cant you guys use developer resources for something we really need like email transfer of items/inf? That to me would have made more sense than this. The only times I ever got respec recipes were on characters that didnt need them anyways but the ones that did were on another server. That would have helped me alot more than this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Umm... probably because what you're asking for would require dozens of hours of coding, QA, etc., while this probably took maybe 30 minutes to pop out. This is all PlayNC side with a tiny amount of interaction with the server using code that's already there, whereas what you're talking about is an entirely new feature that would have to be coded from scratch, tested to make sure it's not gamebreaking and interacts nicely with every other piece of code, etc.

    Honestly, you people. I swear.

[/ QUOTE ]Well that would be 30 minutes less time they would have to spend working on the email system that would be still infinitely more useful than this $10 respec thing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is why the new forum rules need a "no lobbying" clause.

  20. Update: Another source of an earned respec is to buy one with real money.

    See this announcement.

    Just a quick follow up:

We have no plans of getting rid of freespecs. Each Issue that brings with it major power changes (which is pretty much every single one, eh?) will bring a freespec with it.

We have no plans of getting rid of the respec trials.

We have no plans of getting rid of the dropped Respec Recipes.

We have no plans of getting rid of the Veteran Respecs that your account earns.

This is simply another way to get a Respec onto your character.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Remember, there are 3 earnable respecs through trials (villains get a 4th through the Patron Arc).

There is 1 earned respec per year from Vet Rewards.

You can get a dropped Respec Recipe or buy one with in-game 'money' (i.e. influence/infamy) at the market. Heroside, a respec is going for at this moment 20 million inf. I imagine that with the purchasable respecs providing more supply v. the demand; that the cost of in-game respec drops will go down.

And for the past three years, we've received *at least* 3 freespecs per year.

    See this guide to respecs.
  22. I suspect most Devs do a vanity search for their own name. It's only wise to see what people are saying about you if you're in a position of authority. So in this instance it is literally the case of 'speak of the Devil' (and he appears). Just don't say Castle's name three times in a row or else your fotm gets nerfed!

I also suspect our intrepid (read: compositionally challenged) reporter meant when he said "last free issue of 2008" was "latest free issue of 2008" or "this last free issue of 2008" (as in 'this last Tuesday').

Also, I have Koschej and Nivienne set up their own tabs in Firefox which 'show all posts of this user' from their user screen. So, basically, I have four digests that I follow.

I am trying to get clarification on what is ok to say and what is going to get deleted.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Devilchild, you are not going to get that clarity because it is subjective. We take cases as they come. If you would like to discuss it further with me, please send me a PM, thanks.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Are you serious?

I ask because it appears to me that what you're saying is this:

    1) We have a new set of fairly vague rules for the forums that are completely open to interpetation by the whim of the moderation staff and whatever level of caffeine they may have in their system at the time.

    2) It's against the rules to use any of the basic "bad words."

    3) It's also against the rules to post other things, but since that list is "subjective" you're not going to tell us what it is.

Which means that every single time that I or anyone else puts a post up on these forums that isn't 100% happy-happy-joy-joy undying praise for the moderators and/or NCSoft staff that we're essentially giving the Grand Wheel 'O Death a hearty spin. Round and round and round she goes, and where she stops nobody knows!

*click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click* *click*

Congratulations!! The Grand Wheel 'O Death has stopped on... Perma Game Account Ban!! Yes! Congratulations!! You now have the opportunity to kiss all of the money you've paid over the years, all of your characters and your Veteran Rewards goodbye! You just violated a rule that you didn't even know existed!

Yeah. I'd appreciate it if you'd send me a copy of that PM as well Lighthouse, because I really hope that there is something that I've misunderstood here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is a prime example of why things must be vague.

You're looking to nail down the exact line. The seven bad words that can't be used.

Then, you can dance around that line. Come up with a creative vulgarity which isn't on the list and so you can't be held responsible for breaking the rules.

It's purposely vague so that rules lawyers can't loophole their way out of their thinly veiled transgressions.

And even if the Mods detail everything specifically, there's always the "at our discretion/whim" clause which says they can do whatever they want. This protects them from not only the ones who dance about the law, but also protects them from lawsuits that claim they didn't follow their own rules. Their own rules says they can do whatever they want. So, getting the list of bad words will not stop them from modding a post that comes up with a new vulgarism. They can do whatever they want.

You aren't ever going to get them to change that part of the rules.

If that makes you nervous, anxious, paranoid.... then there's nothing that can be done about that. That's the way it is.

If I thought they were being too capricious in moderation, I'd leave, because I can't make them change.

That's the way it is on most moderated boards. Those who don't like that can host their own forum or revive usenet.
