Quote:I think the thing that bugs me most about Nems is just how...dull they get after a while.Personally, I must admit that Nemesis' soldiers are very much equipped like how I might expect an open field army (the style of army that would have been common in Nemesis' time) would operate if they had the technology, lots and lots of AoEs to shred apart the ranks of opposing soldiers... The stacking vengeance is indeed cheap, namely because it just works far too differently from the player version.
Its like high level Crey. At lowever levels you have the suited, deadpan and slightly creepy Agents ("Mr Anderson, we meet again!"), the slightly inhuman scientists, who never show their faces and have all their high tech, the power armoured Tanks and the Security Forces, and the Blue and Yellow scourge that are the Paragon Protectors.
At high levels? You have Tanks. And Elite Protectors. And...more tanks. And thats IT. The fun and soul of the group just vanishes, replaced by cheap tricks (Looking at YOU old style MoG) and boring, samey mobs.
Its the same with Nemesis. The high level mobs are ALL Dragoons or one of their clones, with Full Auto and Flamethrower, two of the nastiest AoEs in game. With LTs and Snipers that ALL stack Vengeance. Oh, and the odd Jaegar, but they seem to die out a bit too.
Malta manages to avoid that whole hassle, because it has diversity. You have the Tactical Operatives, you have the Engineers, you have the ever present evil of the Sappers, you have LT Gunslingers, Boss Gunslingers, LT titans, big @ss Boss Titans, Commanders... Its not a huge gap in diversity, but its enough to keep it more interesting than 'Spam AoE and cheat with stacking Vengeance.' If anything, the stacked vengeance seems to be a poor excuse or stand in for more diverse mobs, which backfires by making ALL the mobs have stupidly high levels of accuracy, damage, self heal and defence, on a level that Players wouldnt get away with for five seconds. -

"Volume of text" ?
Ahh, Bathory doesnt hear words, she seems them! If I blind her, she'll be deaf too! Mwuahahaha!

I'd like to see alternate stances for weapons, personally. Right handed katana, two handed swords and axes, and stances that arent just all boring carbon copies of the sword idle stance which, t'me anyway, isnt even that good. I dont think Id ever hold a sword like that, for starters.
And some assault rifle animations based on shortened version of sniper rifles 'bring to shoulder and fire' animation for Burst, slug and the others would be prime. I really hate the firing from the hip, which works fine in movies, works 0% in real life. -
Malta, Rikti and Carnies I expect to be a 'Higher Level' challenge.
Nemesis I expect to just get frustrated unless I take it slowly solo, or am on a well matched team of friends, because they all mimic their boss and cheat. (Whoever thought mass AoE, Snipers and multiple, stacking Vengeance was a good idea should be shot...)
But the mid-range PPD and Arachnos, I find (Night Widow Bosses...) are actually worse. Oh, and low level Mu, yes. End drain is a swine pre-stamina, and it ain't much better after. -
Quote:You are deemed worthy! We can still make this work!
Blaster Clone: Makes clones of himself and hurls them at people.
Scrapper Clone: Makes clones of himself and beats people over the head with them.
Controller Clone: Buries people under a pile of clones.
Tanker Clone: Wraps himself in a protective layer of clones.

Quote:A-freaking-men!I don't think there should be any all-new zones, blueside or redside, until the current zones fill up more.
I think the work and time should be put into revamps of the older existing zones (both art and content-wise). Make those 'new' again.
New zones attract people to the game, but they also split up the existing players so that the game feels 'empty', especially with all of the instancing.
I think we have hit a point of diminishing returns on this.

I just wanted to get Al out, frankly. Seeing as that entire chunk seemed to get skipped by anyway I thought Hey, what the hell.
-
Alpha simply swore.
"Hailey, head back to base when you can shake the emo here. Use the medi-porter if you want. Seems the others finally got clear. Adios, headcases!"
The final parting words were to the trio in the room behind. Tau team opened up in its entirety, missiles, seeker drones, photon grenades and lasers, before, with a sharp crack and a stink of ozone, they were gone, teleporting back to Corporation HQ. -
Quote:"Right. I've had just about a sodding nuff of this!"Sword yelled "not again please! im not letting you kill her Kimi! dont you get this is why you lost Blade in the first place!". Using the last of his energy, Sword teleported Hailey from Kimi's grip, into his arms, holding her tight and turning to shield her from any retaliation rom Kimi or Big Game. "GET OUT OF HERE!" he yelled back to the other three in the room.
Tau Team stomped into the room, Omega and the Gamma twins training guns on Sword while the Beta triplets kept their armaments on the three creepy figures in the other room.
"You, suicide emo kid," Alpha snarled to Sword, carbine aimed squarely at his head. "Let Hailey go, now, before I drill you a new one and Omega grinds you into paste. You three," he snapped at the multi-coloured trio, "Go to hell. This doesn't concern you! Kimi; Shop is free to go, with Game or otherwise. Thats an order. Unless everyone wants to see a 4oFJBarrage.exe up close and personal!" -
You know, instead of treating Al like he's not there, maybe have some patience and wait until I get time to post? Maybe? Sorry, but that does genuinely annoy me, and its something I've tried to avoid doing to other people in RP (sometimes failing I freely admit)
Whatever, I can roll with it. -
Fair enough.
If it seems a little OP'd to have Alpha and crew be so hard to even touch; trust me, these guys have a ludicrous ammount of defence, Alpha especially. I'll post the real-numbers if needs be on that point. Also, the bots themselves are pretty tough, probably tougher than the game gives 'minions' credit for. Far from indestructable though. -
A larger bubble that covered the entire team seemed to pulse for a moment, the already weakened reflected blasts absorbed by it.
"Great. You couldn't just do the decent thing and stab yourself, could ya?" Alpha growled at the prone form of Sword, before glancing at the trio. "Alright, fine. What do you lot want? 'cos if your ALL after Hailey, you're gonna have to form a quiet, orderly queue while waiting to have your @sses kicked..." -
Alpha and Omega exchanged a glance.
"Light 'em up!" Alpha shouted, aiming a shot of his own at the prone figure of Sword. He didn't really need to bother; the rest of the team had almost instantaneously opened fire, Omega unloading both swarm and incendiary missiles into the clustered figures while also letting rip with his flamethrower again. The Beta drones opened up with full auto fire from their laser cannons, while the Gamma twins took the time to shield the rest of the squad before firing a pair of photon grenades to add to the onslaught.
"Under increasingly heavy attack. Three new hostiles engaged. Hurry the hells up!"
-was the closed band transmision Alpha sent on to Hailey, Game and, if she was hooked up to the Corperation network, Kimi. -
Alpha gestured curtly, the rest of his minions regrouping around him as one of the Protector bots set to the damaged drone with nanites and an arc welder.
"Who in the name of all frag are you three? Whats this becoming, a travelling attraction?" Alpha growled, levelling his carbine as the rest of the squad levelled their collective mass weaponry. "If you're here for the waste of space, take him and shove off. If you want to make an issue of anything, I hope hot plasma death is in your avenue of inquisition!" -
-
Agreed to ever cheap shot named so far, and my personal hatred of all time;
Night Widows Smoke Grenades.
The stupid thing is, it's wore at low levels. Why? Because the cheating b****s are BOSS class at low level. Freaking Boss class, with a -hit grenade that make it impossible to see anything, with Boss level defences?
Oh I hate them. I really, really hate them... -
Quote:Sword was to be dissapointed, however. The room took on a glowing orange tint, as the jets in Omegas backpack and feet roared into life.Sword appeared below Omega, gripping hold of the robot's legs and teleporting again, appearing above Alpha and letting go of the robot. Sword hoped the mech didnt have a rocket pack stored somewhere as he pulled his blades free from the machines grip and he started to fall, spinning towards the ground with his blades pointed out, heading for one of the smaller drones.
It was also now that the seeker drones chose their moment to whirr into life, spinning across the room into a mass beneath and around Sword, before exploding in a mass of shrapnel, smoke and, most of all, immensely bright light and chaff shards, designed to blind and disorient anything nearby, organic or otherwise. Unless it happened to have the exact right shielding, of course.
And then Omega took aim, the flamethrower bursting into livid, firey life with a throaty roar, dousing the area in a white-hot inferno. -
Thats fine, was just double checking =]
-
Hmn, no mention of Alpha being directly above Omega until your post. If someones jumping towards you and up, its fairly easy to aim diagonally.
Add to that, Alpha and his team are all robots. They're not going to fire at someone if theres any decent chance of hitting an ally, unless said ally is immune to whatever they are throwing.
Also, point of order; OMEGA 1's an Assault Bot. He weighs about...pff, couple of tonnes? Minimum? Is there any reasonable way Sword could even hope to lift him/teleport him against his will? -
Quote:How can you implement something that hasn't even left Close Beta?Personally I'm a bit amazed that people are saying "bravo" for implementing and then pulling a system which seems to be broken / underwhelming. I wish my customers would shower praise on me when I do something poorly and then tell them they can't have it yet because of my design flaws.
People must be having a major brainfail day or something here...
Alpha Slot: Not performing to par
Par level: Set by Devs
Beta Testers: Confirmed this
Dev response: Withdraw Alpha Slot from GR release
Aim: Improve and bring up to par
Target: Issue 19
I knew as soon as I read it there'd be some whining but, seriously. It's still going to happen, just when the rest of the system comes out.
I can easily imagine people whining when GR came out anyway, going 'Why give us one level if we have to wait till next issue for the rest? Waaah!!1' -
Quote:"Nertz," Alpha managed as he jetted backwards, although Sword clipping him on the way down sent him into a head-over-heel spin twice before he steadied himself.Sword smirked once more and teleported above Techbot. Bringing his feet around as he started to fall, his heavy armour bringing him down fast. "what Hailey wants is for me not to fight her battles for her. What she doesnt understand is the battle im fighting, is the one for her heart!" Sword cried as his body formed the shape of a downward falling rocket, aiming for Techbot, and Omega beneath him.
"Maybe if she's resisting so heavily, thats a sign she doesn't actually want you fighting for her heart? That ever occured to you, or is this one of those 'She's my soul mate, I will go the ends of yadayadayada' special snowflake tirades?" he shot back, swiftly followed by an actual shot from his carbine. It was accompanied by a full on volley from all six robots, the air becoming a haze of lasers and plasma aimed at Sword. -
Quote:Alpha hovered further upward, making use of the hole in the cieling to get some extra height.Sword's shield took the blow from Omega, his suits energy levels spiking, and he smiled up at Alpha. "you think thats gonna stop me you piece of scrap metal? EMP's may not work, but i think i may know something that will" Sword said, using his swords to swing upwards and kick at Alpha, letting go off the swords to get greater height.
"Uhuh, sure," he quipped, opening one of the pouches on his belt and tossing something between his hands. "So, run it by me again; You're chasing Hailey. You claim to love her. She doesn't want to be chased. Am I the only one who's seeing some major conflicting interests there?"
He pulled the pin on the grenade, before hurling it at Sword with a sharp flick of his wrist. The device popped, a large web of sticky mesh and micro-filliment expanding as it flew towards Sword on his upward journey. -
Quote:One massive hand grabbed the swords, clamping them together. As omega flung its body around, Swrd's grav-lock boots activated and gripped hard, stopping him from begint flung off the massive machine. A whirring sound came from Sword's armour as an EMP was detonated, spreading from the armour out around the robots. Without noticing the effect, Sword swung his swords at the robot's head with all the force he could muster.
"Y'know, people are so quick to judge robots," Alpha said matter of factly, as he hovered down into Swords view. "'Ha, dumb machines, lets EMP them'. Guess what the first thing I proofed the team against was? One guess."
Without waiting for the answer, OMEGA raised his right arm, massive mechanicap fist balled, aiming a gut-punch of painful proportions sqaurely for Sword. -
Alpha nodded.
"Thought not," he said simply, before boosting out of arms reach.
The swords skittered off OMEGAs massive, stocky legs with little more than a scratch. OMEGA leaned almost ninety degrees staight back before jerking sharply forward, attempting to throw Sword off. The other robots backed off to get clear arcs of fire, while the seeker drones whirred in like a swarm of angry, metallic, buzz-saw armed bees.
